There are parts of Marin County (just north of San Francisco) that remind me of Scotland. By no coincidence, the town in that area is called Inverness!

These days most Scottish folk do not wish for Independence, and believe that unity with the UK will advance Scottish interests more effectively and provides them more of a say in world affairs than being independent would.
