Andy Stewart's Greatest Hits

- This medley from a TV appearance in 1984 includes a couple of Andy Stewart's most successful early 1960s recordings - 'A Scottish Soldier' and 'Donald Where's Your Troosers', along with 'Aberdeen' (where he's seen here on the stage of His Majesty's Theatre) and 'Tunes of Glory' (which Andy co-composed with Neil Grant). This is a tribute to the fondly remembered stalwart of Scotland's 'White Heather Club', who became an international celebrity through his popular singles and albums. Andy died in 1993, and Hogmanay has never been the same without him.
So much better than the 'entertainment' we have now. Just one man. No lights. Compare this to Eurovision for example - moving stages, collosal backscreens etc
Eurovision. Your list - and last item: an absence of talent!
This takes me back to childhood, especially at new year.
One of thee best if not thee best singer in Scotland
Reminds me of visiting my gran in overtown wishaw 👍🏴🇬🇧
To the dear scotsmen, greetings from France
🇫🇷 ❤ 🏴
Andy Stewart the best. Gaelic speaker too😊
Had the privilege to meet him. Very talented man and brilliant raconteur. Very clever , witty man. Not forgotten. Thanks, Andy for entertaining us.
I never knew until recently that Andy wrote the great song The Scottish Soldier...we learned this song in school in Ireland fifty years ago and we loved it....and today after all those years it still brings a tear to our eye when we're on the booze...great song, great singer.
Wow, I didn't know this either. Thanks for that information. Best Wishes
He wrote it! Wow.
The tune itself is older, but he did make a amazing version
What exactly school did you go to, especially in Ireland.

Thanks David. He was a true star.
My Scottish wife, becomes more Scottish when we go abroad ! She loves looking out of the plane and seeing Scotland in it's glory !
I remember Andy Stewart when I was young boy. Watching the White Heather club, my favourite program! He was a wonderful singer and a wonderful entertainer. A sad loss, RIP and thank you.
As a child I loved when Donald where's your troosers came on the radio. 😁
When I was a kid I used to think he was corney but seeing this shows what a great entertainer he was. Sad to see that he died only 60 years old.

@@johnnythomas8036 : Hey bro, in 1824, Peter Grant, (aka Auld Dubrach) died aged one hundred and ten, but that was in the days before we had the NHS.
he was corny, but he's funny. I like it. It's also so fucking catching
No Man could swing the Kilt like the main man himself Mr Andy Stewart he will live forever in people's hearts in not only our homeland of Bonnie Scotland but by others around the world as he was loved by a phenomenal amount of people for his passion for singing, swinging o his kilt, charm , charisma & no forgetting his the twinkle in his eyes n his cheeky smile. May you RIP Andy Stewart A true Scottish Legend in the arms of the angels. 💙🕊💙🕊💙.
Yes, proper 'kilt legs'. Not everyone can carry a kilt.
Yes wee Andy, a wee guy with a very big heart God bless you dear andy Steart m.b.e he is always in our hearts and minds during the bad things that go on happing but we keep right on till the end of the road, as Andy would sing his heart out, and he will never be forgotten as long as there's people like us who enjoy his great songs that he made his own but gave too all of us regardless of what religious beliefs we all have sleep in peace now as your battle is ore.
A true and brave Scotsman
I dreaded this one New Year’s Eve when I was a kid but now appreciate just how good he was
Kevin just bring him back ….ain’t the same anymore
When I started my first job in Cork Ireland a scottish soldier was in the charts and when I hear it now it brings back lovely memories. I have loved the song since that time and of course lots more of Andy's songs. Thanks Andy for the wonderful music and may you continue singing in paradise RIP
True legend
I love Andy Stewart I remember seeing him on the white Heather club when I was little and the best new years concerts were with him and the other iconic Scottish singers Kenneth McKeller and the rest.

Brings back cherished memories of my childhood and watching the humorous and infectious Scottish twines of Andy Stewart and his annual Hogmanay celebrations of the 1970s and 80s on telly every new years eve.
I was at his Hogmanay in 1988!
I wish we had him at new year now x
Hello magraretin how are you doing today
he was wonderful
He was a champion for Scotland.
Missing my Mum and Dad...they took me to many Whiteheather concerts in Ottawa Canada when I was a lad.....still fond memories....thank you for posting these songs and videos....a wonderful wander down Memory Lane....the Lord bless you!
Having a Scots mother, we were brought up on his songs specially at hogmanay..
You really ought to read the wiki of his life and his dedication to his last performance.
A star performer!
Robert Burns and Andy Stewart the best
Don’t forget moira Anderson
I grew up listening to Andy Stewart and Jimmy Shand and his band and John McDonald plays fire side accordion, great talents
Thanks, kester1940, for posting this. I recognized His Majesty's as soon as this came on. Our family loved Andy Stewart and his antics, and it was a treat to attend any of his concerts. The last time I saw him was in Ladysmith, British Columbia, (early 1980s) and had the privilege of spending time with him for a radio interview before he went on stage.
Legend
What an exceptional performer with huge stage prescence. Lots o memories growing up in Dundee wi Andy and Jimmy Shand. Cheers fur the upload.
Ah Andy Stewart! He was the Björk of Scotland!
WOOOW!! 👏👏👏👏👏 WONDERFUL
RIP Andy you were the best and will always be remembered
Rest in Peace Andy, Happy Hogmanay tae my ane folk xx
I'm not a big fan of traditional songs or even bagpipe music but I love Andy Stewart. Traditional Irish songs are dull and lifeless in my opinion but Andy Stewart's song are lively and are some are jokes set to music, for want of a better phrase, with a punchline in the last line of the last verse.I was just about too young to remember his White Heather Club show at Hogmanay in the 70s(I'm 48) but my Dad says it was what made New Years Eve brilliant back then. Nowadays the BBC is the only channel that sees in the New Year and and it only lasts about 15 minutes,if you're lucky. I'm from Northern Ireland so maybe it's an Ulster Scotch thing.
A true entertainer.
Loved him heard he used to hang about McCormack's to get the odd piano receipt from customers to balance his taxes.
very good and enjoyed
Brilliant songs

Thanks so much for posting this. Its exactly how I remember Andy in the 1980's. Throwing everything had had at every word and loving it! Is this recorded concert available anywhere?
Dont know Davie, just found it on youtube.
***** Thanks Alan. Ha! I'm always ferreting around for Andy's Stuff. Think I've got everything he ever recorded on vinyl, tape and CD. Its just trying to collect as much of this kind of obscure stuff now.
Great stuff Alan. You keep searching sir. I got to know Andy a bit before his very untimely death. He was such a lovely bloke. So down to earth and ordinary off stage, but had some tremendous "show biz" stories and anecdotes from all over the world that never failed to amuse.
Good short songs
1) Aberdeen
2) The Tunes of Glory
3) A Scottish Soldier
4) Donald, Where’s Your Troosers?
Always remembered being tortured by my granny and her Andy Stewart record collection when I was wee.
met great man
Love the flag of Finland at the sides. Hilarious.
Good eye. Got me laughing. Thanks...Mac

An international star. His infectious humour was a joy. His memory will live on as a true Scotsman, a Stewart and a bloody lovely and great man. RIP Andy. Haste ye back x
Stewart, not a Scot. Comes from German English French Germanic tribes.
No purebreds exist in these islands. Scotland had more French than Germanic bloodlines. We are all a litter of mongrels. But nobody epitomised the best loved parts of Scotland than Andy Stewart. Just enjoy.
Illy Boulder so do the Scots. English and Scottish all originate from Scandinavia/Germany, whether you like it or not
He stole it from the pipe tune..The Green Hills of Tyrol.
Boo
Absolutely dreadful.
I used to hate New Year’s Eve telly, Moria Anderson, Kenneth Mckella, and this little prat, every year same rubbish songs were thrown at us by the BBC. We still get rubbish but not this Scots rubbish.
One time I found this guy while looking for Andy M. Stewart, another Scottish singer. I was very confused.
I used to dread new year🤣🤣
A great singer. May God bless him.
