never expected this to come up a sequel! can't wait to get it!
Ohohoho, im expecting an animation of it now :)
Please continue your advance wargroove series. It will be awesome.
I'm at least hoping for units to have different attributes among commanders, since one thing I liked about advance wars was that depending on the commander, units stats would change which made the game a bit more interesting.
Wargroove was a great entry point game for me into the strategy genre. Up until I played it in late-2019, the last and only time I’d ever played another strategy title was all the way back in the mid-2000s as a young kid, when I played HoMM 3 at my dad’s house. I was always put off by the complexity of strategy games, and having a huge barrier-to-entry with learning all of the mechanics. Wargroove was simple enough that I was able to get into it, and I ended up having a lot of fun with it to where I started trying out other, more complex games, and ultimately found a genre that I really enjoy that I hadn’t been able to get into for a long time.
Looking forward to playing Wargroove 2, although I do still need to do the final level of the first game. I got to the very end of the battle against Elodie, with only a small handful of enemy units remaining, and then I think I placed Mercia like just a single tile too close and ended up having her killed off by something. And I never went back to try again, because that was such a long and difficult mission that I lost all my enthusiasm as a result of that minor mistake costing me over an hour’s worth of effort. (At least it wasn’t a Caesar mission; those things took me 2-3 hours, in most cases.)
Thank you for the lovely comment - great to hear Wargroove got you into strategy games 😁
If you do decide to finish off that Wargroove base game campaign, make sure you update to the latest version - we released an update which added checkpoints! Especially handy in longer battles. Patch notes here: wargroovewiki.com/Version_History
@@Chucklefish I was literally very similar case the OP here.
So this good info for me too. Thanks
@@Chucklefishyes also did you rework multiplayer ??? There are reviews about it
Caesar missions felt like hot irons for me at first. For some reason, I took a really long time to work through those. Once I did though, I realized that a core strategy can win out against raw numbers if positioned well.
I wasn’t ever expecting a sequel! ChuckleFish are on fire with their titles, absolutely love the kind of genres they breathe new life into!
Agreed. Between Wargroove and Starbound they have create some real great games. I cant wait for Witchbrook, I am surprise they announced Wargroove 2 before any release date on Witchbrook.
I loved the first one and I always hoped we get a sequel. Wonderful!
Please finish the game and do a retail release of it with everything on the card. It's a game that deserves a complete release for collectors.
Between this and Advance Wars Reboot Camp we SRPG fans eating good!
I know Role Playing Game, but what’s the S for?
@@ItalianGamer83 Strategy Role Playing games
The art in this looks 1000x better than the advance wars redo. Not sure why they ditched the pixel art for what they have but this here is pretty.
these arent rpgs
@@BoneDog1215 ye, but game play wise it is basically the same as Fire Emblem, except with sort of RTS mechanics of unit building and base capturing instead of roleplaying
Oh man I was worried for the future of this series but I’m glad it’s coming back! Thank you Chucklefish!
THIS IS SO HYPE!!! Wargroove was so much fun and now they’re adding so much in what for me is a long-awaited sequel! NEW STORY, PIRATES, AND A KRAKEN UNIT?! This is so crazy and I love it!!
Please add a feature that shows all enemy attack range on the map. Would be nice if you can update the first game too to show this.
Yoooooo! I was worried the first one didn't do well enough for a sequel! Really thrilled to see this!
I've played the first game and the DLC, and I can't wait for the sequel
I love how the outlaws have unique unit designs now.
I JUST PLAYED Wargroove over an hour ago this I didn't expect to see this in my UA-cam recommended, Amazing.
super excited to see what the community makes with this new game..... if there will be any cool new events or functions which make the editor even more interesting to use...... thats pretty cool!
I bought Wargroove just yesterday and I'm enjoying it a lot... so I'm keeping an eye on this sequel.
finally i dont have to come up with my own stories in Wargroove custom campaign!
Sweet, I really enjoyed the first game!
Praise be, a new Wargroove! And octopus units! Will Phonetic Hero return as composer?
So psyched! Cant wait to see all the new units / commanders! My buddies and I have been coming up with all these cool ideas for what could be added whenever we play, and it looks like you guys are adding some of them (giant squid / kraken???). Cant wait :)
Looks like at least 4 new units from this trailer: the Kraken, the Frogs, the Ostrich Rider and that new flamethrower boat. And no, i don't think the ostrich and the frogs are just knights/dogs for new faction since we see both knights/ostrich and dogs/frogs from Felheim at 0:18.
Wooh. Thank you for the sale of wargrove bundle on switch right now. Also looking forward to support you on this wargrove 2
OH MY GOD! YEEEEES!
An announcement trailer with gameplay! The way it fricking should be. Other devs should take note.
vAMOOOOOS NUEVO WARGROOVE sii ya quiero que salga
I never thought this game would exist my favorite game is Wargroove but I found it when no one cared about it anymore but my family loves Wargroove and we play against each other and so knowing that my favorite game is getting a sequel is amazing and I can't wait To play it and I hope it's super successful so I'll have opponents to face Edit: Add Enid as a playable character O R E L S E
Yes! So excited!!
wargroove is such a great game i loved every single part of it, and i thought the game was dead since nothing happened after double trouble but seeing this makes me so happy, this trailer made my trashy high school day into the best day of the month
Absolutely adore the original - so stoked on this!!
Oh man, bring it, love Wargroove…so UNDERRATED
I hope we can finally mix terrain pieces on maps, I really want grass land, desert, volcano and ice all in one map
I greatly enjoyed the last game, definitely going to pick this up when it comes out. I don't know if this to much to ask, but can the campaign editor also have a way to customize units? Even if it's like change the stats/costs of existing units it'll be very appreciated.
i want more things to do on the map to gain advantages like gather resources and bonus tiles similar to Civ 6
I
Cannot
Wait
❤
Hell yeah!!
I hope they went a little easier on the difficulty or made it an option. While I beat it I really disliked that very early on in wargroove you had to follow fairly specific gameplans to have a change at winning even non normal difficulty.
I just unlocked mercival,
HYPE.
Only gripe I have so far is nobody seems to have changed or aged design wise except wulfar but that's fine.
Random sequel coming up cant wait and multiple storylines, new modes for replay-ability looks like they wanted this game to stay in the spotlight for a bit and im all for it.
That’s a great day to be a turn based strategy fan! Wonder what kind of new gimmicky units will be here, as well as more straightforward units.
As a huge heavy infantryman enjoyer in Wesnoth, I wonder if this game will have something similar.
BRUUUHHHHH
What I can gather from this trailer (wall of text warning):
*New Units*
_-Airtroopers:_ they're infantry on a secretary bird. Chucklefish actually show this units description on their website. They are a air/ground hybrid unit. They have infantry type movement and a move stat of 4 (same as the standard infantry). They crit if an ally airtrooper is opposite of their target. My takeaway is that they are air infantry similar to how amphibians are sea infantry, meaning they can capture objectives. Though, their movement type confuses me since infantry type movement makes no sense for an "air" unit. They already have a movement type for a flying unit that can go on flagstone and it's exclusive to Koji's Sparrow Bombs. Seeing that they went this route for their movement tells me that they have an active ability that switches them from grounded to flying. As for why they'd would use such a function, my guess is aerial mode gives them greater mobility and combat prowess while grounded mode enables indoor traversal and the ability to capture. This is all speculative, of course.
_-"Krakens":_ the giant cephalopod unit. They are obviously naval units but they seem to posses the amphibious movement type since they can attack from rivers (that or a completely new movement type). At 0:26 the trailer showed the squid moving from the bridge to below the water village, which gives it a movement of either 5 or 6 (assuming it has amphibious movement). They also have an active ability that can ensnare a unit (maybe prevent the player from moving or attacking). They come off as the giants of the sea boosting immense power at a hefty cost.
_-"Frogs":_ the... frog units. We know very little about them aside from them taking 50% from airtroopers on beaches. They look to be amphibious (I mean... duh) as we can see one sitting on a sea tile at 0:26 which could imply they come from ports.
_-"Rowboat":_ a rowboat with a special ornament on its bow. When it attacks it unleashes a flamethrower from the head of the ornament. Not much else is known about them.
-The website said there's going to be 5 new units but the trailer seems to only show 4. Whatever
*Factions*
-The outlaws have unique units now! Interestingly, their dogs are pigs (I approve of this).
-There's a purple faction, could be related to Elodie.
-There's also an orange faction with a mysterious new commander. We don't even see their units.
*Commanders*
_-Nadia:_ new outlaw commander. Comes equipped with a flamethrower. Her groove seems to do deal massive damage to units in front of her (deals 3 damage to Nuru on plains). The range seems... weird? It hit Nuru, the spear, giant, harpy, and soldier but not any structures or the mage behind her. Might hit in a very wide fan shape in front and around her or she can selectively choose units. Unsure.
-Wulfar got a new look. That is all.
_-Enhanced Grooves:_ grooves got a new tiered system to unleash even more powerful grooves. We saw in the trailer that Valder was able to summon two skeletons then gave all his soldiers a buff. Maybe this will develop some more unique army formations for the commanders?
*Other*
-Units can be powered up with items. At 0:18 we see a green mage unit with a special icon above their head. They also seem to be above some weird tile but I'm not sure if that was spawned by the mage or is a part of the map.
-Fog of war has a new look 0:24.
-New biomes: a jungle biome and a spooky biome.
This looks to be a sizable upgrade to the first Wargroove. I'm pretty excited for this.
Spotted one new unit so far, the Kraken, Birdriders, and some sort of Toad. what else have you guys seen?
im gonna be honest i never expected wargroove 2 to be ever made. now im hyped :D
I can't believe I did'nt hear about this for a month
This is very much poggers. Can't wait for it to come out.
Wawawiwa! Can't wait !
As a Starbound fan i was shocked when i saw the Florans in Wargroove! I wasn't even aware of it when i bought it so it was an incredibly pleasant surprise and im even more excited now that i see they make a return on the sequel!
(The fact that the vame takes place in the Saffron Islands also shocks me, considering i was replying wargroove and i literally just got to the point where Mercia mentioned traveling there just before watching this video! Scary coincidence!)
Nice! I hope it'll be as good as the first game!
Just got the first one for switch (physical) and will be picking this up as soon as it drops.
A great system in the game is critical hits. Each unit could hit extra hard under certain conditions. Knights who moved their maximum movement would smash any infantry, spearmen band together to slay knights, Trebuchets sniped any target dumb enough to stay at the edge of their range, winged infantry did well over mountains, and golems became extra dangerous as they were near destruction. This system is non-random, so you had to place your units right to majorly damage enemies, while trying to deny them crits to prevent them from tearing your army apart
I may be wrong because i have watched a playthrough and not actually tried it myself, but didnt golems get 200% damage at 4hp or less? Means a 4hp hits the same as an 8hp one and a 3hp hits the same as a 6hp one.
Means a 5hp golem is not as good as a 4hp or 3hp golem, but stronger tjan a 1hp or 2hp golem.
Strange unit but that's what makes wargroove appealing to me (and the other units you mentioned with the crits).
@@turbo8628 it was a more general case but yes, that’s the main gimmick that steps up and distinguishes the game from its inspiration. A crit can take even the worst matchups and at least do a decent chunk of damage whereas other AWlikes would have them go down.
The commanders also are units themselves with drastically inflated defense. Each has a unique power that influences their play style. The MC’s groove is a simple yet potent heal, allowing her to actually be more aggressive. The old mage can set up a crystal to boost your units in an area, locking down a choke point or capture. The floral lady can summon any unit at double price, but having a golem come out of nowhere is worth it. The childish inventor also has two powerful bombs to clear up even the tightest defenses. These unique twists on CO powers means that each commander can see the same maps differently.
@@pootissandvichhere9135 yeah, the crits that can be set up are the biggest thing that separates it from advance wars. Adds a lot of depth to how you position your army beyond just their ranges.
Tricky thing with any strategy game is to make it balanced, so i hope the new units make it more balanced (i hear a load of pikemen are op).
i hope that every faction will be more specialised and have its own uniqe units. The fact that the units just visually different but had the same skills and options was pretty lackuster in the first game.
I hope you take inspration from Symphony of War: The Nephilim Saga in they way they do upgrades and make every unit feel special.
Having unique units would be a bit too much to expect from something basing itself on Advance Wars where part of the appeal is how you can use the same tools, but different commanders emphasize them with different importance. But considering how Wargroove was designed, I do think they could have gone with different units per faction.
As for your Symphony of War idea, that sounds impossible. That is a system for a strategy RPG, while this is a game focused on commanders and disposable units. It would be tedious to customize every squad you produce. It would also be impossible to balance.
@@sigurdtheblue Symphony of War does it pretty well so i can be done - and mind you that both games are indie devs.
YOO!?!?!? I was not expecting this
Looking forward 👍
I am soooo incredibly hyped for the next Wargroove!
I don't know how often I come back to the first game just to play it with my siblings, how often I told them that they "never see me coming" when playing Ryota. And now I have yet another reason to return to this charming world, and Ryota.
Well then, see you on release Ryo... I mean Wargroove 2.
I never expected a sequel to this game. Maybe like an entirely new game with the same pixel asthetic and even better gameplay
The first game is dead. It didn't live long. Lots of missed potential and lackluster aspects
This sequel is bringing back the same sprites, same characters, same era, etc with some new ones. Wouldn't mind something different for once, like SciFi setting. Not sure if I really like this.. It just feels like the same game, just probably with even better gameplay? This feels more like DLC tbh
Omg 😳 finally we get what we want 😍👌 hopefully there is new anime intro 😹
Yes!!!! Still play Wargroove pretty regularly to this day.
I'm more excited for this than Advance Wars Reboot Camp now (which I am VERY excited for!)
Its finally back!!! LETS GO! Cant wait to play this sequel
Awesome I just got wargroove on sale on steam and am enjoying it so far. So cool to see it will get a sequel and I really like the pirate theme looks cool.
Just waiting a discount to start playing Wargroove 1 and after that, Wargroove 2 🤩
Keep your eyes peeled 👀👀
@@Chucklefish Glad to hear that 😍
I didn't think we would get a sequel but I'm happy for Wargroove 2.
Any plans for the sequel to drop with Xbox Play Anywhere support? I loved being able to play on my Xbox, laptop, and PC seamlessly.
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
YES!!! I'm so excited!!!
Its not that im not excited to see this but i just want an update on witchbrook.
We're still working on it! Sometimes we share tidbits in the Discord: discord.gg/chucklefish
Latest post: twitter.com/Witchbrook/status/1618646484601405441
@Chucklefish Cool Thank you guys, the second i saw the game, i fell in love with the idea of it.
The first game was a MASTERPIECE!!! And when I heard that there is already a sequel to my most beloved tactics game, I COULDN'T WAIT TO GET THAT GAME!!!! But, the fact that it's only for Steam and the Nintendo Switch is kinda sad:(. Because my steam account was hacked, and I don't have a switch at home, so I couldn't play it😭 Chucklefish, can you PLEASE release the game on Xbox?🥺 I would really appreciate it.
COMMON CHUCKLEFISH W
Unexpected but welcomed!
Love how the pirate just has a flamethrower, don't know why that just puts a smile on my face
Can we have difficulty settings other than a straight up handicap this time ? No hard difficulty really soured the deal for me in wargroove 1
This and Wildfrost are two of my most eagerly anticipated games, and bizarrely by the same devs.
Same publisher, different devs.
Ecstatic! First one had a near flawless campaign so more is good
amazing first game, the sprite is so good im having an euphoria
LET'S GOOOOOO
Oh hell yes!
Woooo yeah baby, that's what I've been waiting for, that's what it's all about!
Wow this looks so fun! Ive wanted more Wargroove for a while now. 💯
So hype right now!!!
Pay your employees....
I did not give the first game a chance, but it is interesting to see that the maps might be more water based in this sequel.
Will there be old villainous commanders like Elodie, evil Mercia, Sigrid in the multiplayer?
yopo, let's goo. I hope this game has a much better online UI, as the first game kinda died a few months later and the free DLC barely helped
This looks so much better than the remastered Advance Wars
Omg Wargroove is one of my absolute favorite games, I am so excited for the sequel!
Im so fucking stoked !!!!!!
I hope the servers don't die within like a year of release. There was like no one playing online but the story is rad
hossabara in advance wars requiem 2, nice.
simple question: what about IA target in fog of war ?
For some reason I’ve always thought that a crossover between WarGroove and Tiny Dino World would be the best thing ever.
Same cute art style, dinosaurs make everything their in better, dinosaur themed units would be awesome, and both games have a jamming soundtrack.
Regardless, I’ll be looking forward to seeing WarGroove 2!
The first game of this genre I would get day 1. Hated this style of game until I tried Wargroove.
I hope my potato laptop can run wargroove 2...I'm too cheap to buy newer laptop but wouldnt mind buying new game lol
I want to get it on Steam Deck!
YESSSSSS LETSSSS GOOO
If this game has actual good Fog of War mechanics, I will buy it immediately! There was a tiny bit of "darkness" in the trailer, so I can hope! (The first game was a major major let-down in this regard, I would love to see a bit more inspiration taken from AW: Days of Ruin.)
Se sabe si saldrá tambien para playstation mas adelante?
Sorry for the offtop, but I would really like to see a sequel to Starbound ;__;
*CO-OP GAMES LET'S GOOOOOOOOOOO*
Yes, but will it have an in-depth campaign creator
hell yeaaaaah
Honestly I am surprised to hear the game's getting a sequel but I'm all for more Wargroove but with pirates
YESSSS
