Thank you for the vid! I needed to access the coolant sensor

Thanks for posting this. I have a 2006 5.7 with about 70k miles on it. I started getting a weird clanking sound in July 2019 even with the A/C off. I thought it was the exhaust system at first but I seem to have narrowed the noise to the a/c compressor. Starting to accumulate parts and knowledge before tackling the job. Nice thing is everything seems readily accessible unlike when changing spark plugs.
Thanks for the RockAuto suggestion. I forgot about them. Summit always just pops in my head first. My Haynes manual says when replacing the A/C compressor to also replace the A/C accumulator. I'm not going to tackle the lines or anything else at this point unless I run into problems during disassembly, won't hold vacuum, etc.
Thanks for Part 2. I was wondering about how much oil to add to the system.
My daily driver (02 Alero) is having an ABS/speed sensor(s) issue so need to tackle that one first with some simple suggestions before digging into the wheel bearings. Thanks again.

Great job brother. I’m just about to do this on my 2008 4.7 L. Do you think it’s all relatively the same? I know the alternator is located in a different spot, but I can’t imagine it being too different

Omg Matt, I just realized I wrote you 2 years ago asking just about the same question LOL 😂 Soooooooo, I made it 2 years since then, but I know it’s definitely broken this time. I do know now that it is slightly different from the 5.7, but I assume like I said it’ll be pretty much the same process. Don’t ya think? Too funny! Thanks

Could you link the kit you bought from rockauto?

Great detailed, step by step removal job Matt! I’m about to tackle this job soon i believe. After 11 years of owning this 2008 Ram 1500, I felt my AC get a little warm while driving the other day. I have a 4.7 tho, if you see this, do you think they’re identical? My truck is not with me now, but it seems like my compressor faces the opposite direction. Vertical rather than horizontal like yours. I could be wrong tho. Thanks! Again, fantastic job!

Thanks for the kind words, Kenny! I am not 100% sure, but I believe on the 4.7L engine, the AC compressor is on the passenger side. I *think* everything else is relatively the same, but having not worked on anything in a truck with the 4.7 before, I'm kind of guessing about that.
If you run into an issue, www.dodgeforum.com has been an amazing resource for me. I'd highly recommend you check that out if you haven't already done so. (I'm in no way affiliated - just passing along a source of great information)
I wish you luck - thanks for watching!

Can the lines be cleaned and flushed or do I need to completely replace the lines as well....? FYI everything else is new compressor, drier, and condenser

In the middle of all of this right now. Waiting on the flush and flush tool. Is there a pressure gauge on that Amazon tool? How much pressure do we use to flush through it?

My 2010 Dodge Ram has a leak around the hoses and compresor cannot add Freon it will just leak out in a matter of seconds. Is it important to replace the condenser also?

Hey man ! I have a question. I own a 06 ram 5.7 it hasn’t had ac for years. But when it did it blew cold. I’m guessing it had a leak. One day I decided to go to Walmart and forgot to measure the ounces so I think I over charged it. Killing the ac clutch. Also When I turn on the ac. It smells horrible like chemicals so I’m guessing it’s a ac evaporator core leak behind the dashboard. My questions is. I’m getting ready to spend a lot of money. New ac compressor new lines. New drier. New new condenser and new evaporator core. Should I pull a vacuum on the system ? Or it wouldn’t work ? I don’t want the new parts to get contaminated or whatever else can happen if I just replace instead of removing everything. The truck has zero Freon ! Ac clutch doesn’t work. It doesn’t spin. Any tips ? Also or do you think putting new parts should be fine ? I’m glad I found your videos man ! I helped out so much !!!

I have an '08 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi.. I'm trying to find out if it has an expansion valve or an orifice filter. O'Reilly told me their system only shows a valve ($42.99), but AutoZone said an orifice filter came up on their system ($2.99), so I bought the filter. But i can't seem to find which of the two it is - I've googled & UA-camd it & no luck. Can you help?
    TIA

      Jesse,
I'm sure this comment may come late for your current repair, but this info might still prove helpful. I often use RockAuto for parts when I'm shopping around, as Matt did for this project. Their system breaks down all the available components by category for your vehicle once you enter the make, year & model. Takes the guesswork right out of the equation when in doubt. In your '08 Ram 1500 5.7L V8, you have an AC orifice tube. Cost is less than $0.50 as of this posting. I hope this helps for future repairs.

When I was doing it hard pressure of air was coming out when taking off the two tubes on top is that bad?

Did you not have the refrigerant recovered by a repair shop prior to beginning the repair? It sounds like you still had refrigerant in your lines when you opened things up. It's not the end of the world at this point, but it's much safer and better for the atmosphere to have the refrigerant properly evacuated from the system before removing any components.

Is the AC compressor pulley supposed to spin when you turn the heat

  • @kennysnyder4628
    @kennysnyder4628 3 роки тому +1

Negative batman you don't have to replace the accumulator. You just need to pull a vacuum on it to -30. That will remove all moisture.

Can you pull a vacuum with a leaky evaporator core ? And also my ac clutch isn’t engaging so my compressor doesn’t come in

My AC blows fine and ice cold until I’m at idle. Do I need to replace the condenser. Thanks in advance.

    • @mattpayne4087

Hi Michael, I'm not an AC expert, but I'm wondering if you have an issue with your electric condenser fan. Have you confirmed that it runs? I'm suspicious that your electric fan is not working properly, so when you are driving at speed, air is naturally forced over the condenser coil, but when you are at idle, there is little/no airflow over the coil, causing the efficiency of the AC system to degrade.
If your condenser fan is actually working properly, I'd recommend checking the AC refrigerant charge next.
Good luck! I hope you're able to troubleshoot your problem. Thanks for visiting my channel.

If you haven't already figured it out, look under the hood while everything is running. With your A/C running, the condenser fan should be on and moving air. IF that fan isn't running, you need to replace it. There's quite a few videos around here on how to replace, just the fan and shroud without having to replace the condenser.
