Serj is so chill and generally humble (as much as is possible). I wish he’d work with Steve Wilson or Michael Ankerfeld on something (also chill and humble for their talent) I wore a shirt with a sheep to college when they were talking about invading Iraq and no one was examining how difficult it would be. This reminds me of when Dave Chappelle went to Disney World with his kids and everybody including a guy in a Mickey Mouse costume kept saying "I'm Rick James, bitch." which upset Dave a bit since he was with his kids and Disney was supposed to be kid/family-friendly.
System of a Down is such a rare band where every single song they have on an album isn’t skipped. Every song actually has its own identity. System definitely has a sound, but that quality of every song being it’s own is insanely difficult.
Rammstein as well I think, although their recent releases are not as good as their first ones and are losing their uniqueness. The sound is still unique to Rammstein, but in that context, the new tracks sound too similar for my taste.
Once a serj once a story okay? I will tell. Because the serj in 2001 sept 11 .. then went on stern.. I once had this remembered in one. Biscuits because daron played james bond ps1 game during recording of album first. When daron. Was john.John.. shavo his beard long he want. Was also b b biscuit dough tho. 👍 ok

Huge part of my life growing up. I was in high school when the album came out and now I have a 6 month old son who will be listening to the songs once he gets a little older. Thank you SOAD for those fond memories and helping to create new ones with my son!
Multi-generational listeners here. My son is half-Armenian and loves SOAD and Scars on Broadway. He's 6 so I'm careful with the songs he gets to hear, but I was in high school in 2001, growing up in NYC and the whole memory of 9/11 and the album release always sticks out in my mind.
My dad was a huge SOAD fan and I can remember him playing hypnotize in his shitty truck when I was like 10. I’m 22 now but I will forever be a SOAD fan thanks to my dad!
System of a Down is my favorite band of all time and Serj is by far my favorite vocalist. He's at the top of my "If you could have a convo with anyone list". What a legend.
@@GingahBish23 Similar yes, accept for the fact that SOAD actually tells the truth instead of preaching false propaganda. Some of they're songs actually mock RATM's message and rightfully so.

I'm 60. Didn't get into this band until I heard the Mezmerize lp in 2005. Floored me. Went back, got Toxicity -- floored me. Love this band. Love Serj as a lyricist and vocalist. The album is legendary but having that heavy shadow overhead at the time must have felt somewhat suffocating.
I was listening to the toxicity album on my headphones while riding the express bus to school on September 11th. We were stopped at the light in front of the towers when the first plane hit. I heard nothing but the music The scene outside the window was confusing. People were running and there was paper flying around everywhere. I took my headphones off when everyone on the bus jumped up to look out of the left side windows. As debris started hitting the bus roof, the bus driver said everyone off...we are going no further. Once off the bus, I stood on the sidewalk in front of Century 21 and heard people say that they think a small plane crashed into the building. I looked up & thought....there's no way they are going to be able to put that out. I decided to make my way to the staten island ferry and forget about school for the day. On my way pushing through people by the wall street bull I heard the second plane which honestly sounded like a missile. I now knew there was no accidental plane crash. Once I got to the ferry we heard rumbling. I didn't know at the time but it was the first building going down. As we pulled away from the dock we barely outrun the cloud of smoke and rubble. The ferry was so overloaded that the lower level was taking on water and most wear wearing life jackets. No one knew what exactly just happened. Once exiting the ferry we all just stood looking at the city across the river engulfed in smoke. I later saw my bus on the news. It was crushed. I don't know why I just told this story. I rarely do. It seemed relevant to this interview.
