    My aviary has a closed off insulated part in the back where my birds sleep. I also have heal lamps if it gets too cold.

    For those in colder areas, the corrugated sheets have gaps at the edges. There are materials that match the edges which can be used to provide a seal.

    Your aviary is great, just like a small house.

    Here in the UK alot of the serious breeders of Australian finches & waxbills have moved away from outdoor aviaries into keeping their birds in cages and/or inside flights in their boardrooms with electric lighting & heating at constant temperatures.

    We got hit here hard on the Texas gulf coast, snow on the ground for several days. Not something we are accustom to. Most of our winters are mild. Thank god my outdoor aviary is connected to my screened in porch. I cover my porch with a heavy ml plastic as well as the outside aviary. I used heavy duty tarps as well knowing how cold it was going to be. I run two box heaters on my porch when the temp gets in the 40's. The morning of the big freeze the outside temp was 10 degrees, inside the indoor and outdoor aviary was 45 degrees, I can't complain, my finches did well, hopefully acclimation to colder temps will help over the years.

    This was simply brilliant, even for me here in Norway this model could be built on and work. And that possibly without the power bill putting an abrupt end to the bird adventure :) Birdy earthy ship :p

    Hi! Your set up is amazing! Did you build the outside aviary with your own plans?

    Thanks for the video. Any suggestion to protect the birds outside in winter for Ontario, Canada? We could get sometimes up to -20 C, but mostly under -15 C.

    Buenos días, gracias por tus videos... estoy por hacer un aviario al aire libre como el tuyo y he aprendido con tus videos... como haces con los insectos y los mosquitos? Afectan a las aves?

    How much does it cost to build a avairy like this?

    All I could think was, what about the heat!! In Australia, today over 40 Celcius in the shade in my birds cage. They'd fry in a greenhouse so of course on hot days, the plastic cover I use to protect against rain (for the cage too as it's not powder coated) & draught comes off.

    If you house different species of parrot finch together in the same aviary, do they hybridise?

    • @paradiseaviary
      @paradiseaviary  Рік тому +1

      Theres always a chance of hybridizing but personally ive never had any issues. I make pairs and let them bond prior to releasing them into the outdoor aviary. Heres a vid I made on that topic a while back

    What happened? I wrapped my birdcage in saran wrap like you said and today, my four parakeets were, umm... they were on the bottom... they were on the bottom of their cage... and they were... they were on the bottom, laying there... and when I called them, they didn't.. Hold on, I'm gonna try again. I'll update.

      The humidity makes it way worse. In states where it snows its way drier. The cold doesnt penetrate as much.
      In humid air, sweat evaporates from your skin more slowly, which makes you feel hotter. In cold air, of course, sweating isn't usually an issue. Instead, the usual explanation is that damp air transfers heat more quickly than dry air, allowing more heat to escape from your body and making you feel colder
