    LYRICS:
    And it starts
    Sometime around midnight
    Or at least that's when
    You lose yourself
    For a minute or two
    As you stand
    Under the bar lights
And the band plays some song
About forgetting yourself for a while
And the piano's this melancholy sound check
    To her smile
And that white dress she's wearing
    You haven't seen her
    For a while
    But you know
    That she's watching
    She's laughing, she's turning
She's holding her tonic like a crux
    The room suddenly spinning
She walks up and asks how you are
So you can smell her perfume
You can see her lying naked in your arms
    And so there's a change
    In your emotions
And all of these memories come rushing
Like feral waves to your mind
Of the curl of your bodies
    Like two perfect circles entwined
And you feel hopeless, and homeless
    And lost in the haze
    Of the wine
    And she leaves
    With someone you don't know
But she makes sure you saw her
She looks right at you and bolts
As she walks out the door
    Your blood boiling
    Your stomach in ropes
And when your friends say what is it
You look like you've seen a ghost
    And you walk
    Under the streetlights
And you're too drunk to notice
That everyone is staring at you
And you so care what you look like
    The world is falling
    Around you
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
You just have to see her
And you know that she'll break you in two

It started sometime around 1:30 am. I was at the bar and saw her with another person, and she saw me. We made eye contact and that was it. I came home and stood at every place we ever loved and ever fought. I closed my eyes and thought about her and imagined every moment we had spent in each spot. I thought about her as her, not for her mistakes or what she's done, but simply thought about us being us, perfect and imperfect as we were in those moments.

This song NEVER fails to touch me each tyme. I will never forget the first nyte I heard it. One of my best musician friends, the lead singer of A Friend Called Fire, was visiting from Chicago. This tune came on the background radio station. All other conversation was then "lost in a haze" during the next few minutes. We were definitely affected.
If you haven't seen Mikel's recent post on the band's Facebook page about a new album and book, you need to.

This song hits home, even twenty years later! It’s been six months and you thought you were ok, you know she moved on but when you parted ways she gave you that little hint of hope that it could still be. This song could have been written to my exact situation. Sitting in a bar late at night, she is the last person you expect to see. You aren’t prepared. Then you realize she isn’t alone and is there with another guy. You knew she moved on but in your mind it wasn’t real, now you are forced to face reality unexpectedly. She looks happy, any hope you had just got crushed. You forgot how beautiful she was and she looks more beautiful than she ever has. We all want what we can’t have and only realize what we had when it’s too late. She is sitting there at the bar, you still go unnoticed. You break into a cold sweat and your stomach is in knots and you are oblivious to everything around you. She crosses her legs and you see her perfect legs, and you see his hand touch them and you feel sick. She lights a cigarette and the glow from the flame illuminates her perfect face, the reflection against her French manicured nails, the way she pushes her hair to the side, her laugh , her smile and you feel crushed . She walks past you to go to the bathroom and you turn your back so she doesn’t notice you but you really do smell her familiar perfume, it’s not only intoxicating but evokes nostalgia. She comes out and you act surprised to see her. You feel pitied, and although the conversation is polite quick and friendly you know she isn’t feeling what you do. You hate her for not hating you, you hate yourself for not realizing what you had when you did . It hurts to talk to her but it also hurts for her to walk away. This was by chance and may be the last time you talk. There isn’t a single guy that hasn’t experienced heart break and that hasn’t been in this situation that can’t relate to this song. The girl in this video (Brunette) even looks like my ex. There is no other song that can ever describe this feeling we have all had. A true masterpiece!

The music just matches every emotion a person would go through experiencing this. The way it builds at points of stress and and the bass drops to a lower key when the lyrics explain defeat...adding extra layers as the night gets more chaotic and emotional til finally accepting as the music components fade to minimalistic and a final conclusion of moving on. What a masterpiece of writing both lyrically and musically.

Since 1995, 15 years later went to a bar with friends and I saw her, the way they wrote this song that’s Exactly what happened to me. A month later this song came out and it killed me.

This song captures heartache, love, and loss all at the same time. The band doesn't need wireless microphones, stupid dance moves, cone bras, costumes made of beef, or backup singers with criminal records walking around with huge gold chains around their necks.
    C chord, A minor, F , and G. It's called song writing.
Just a magnificent job by Airborne Toxic Event.

You look at the way he digs through the photos and all this happens (this whole song) in a manner of minutes. The same time it takes for you to look at a photo you don't want to - but know you need to - get rid of. At the end, he finally does what's best, but likely remembers all the memories he felt the few minutes before. The emotions that follow, while those photos burn are what we feel when we click the replay button. It's a beautiful song.

If you NEVER experienced the feelings of the guy in this video and if there was never a point in your life you were able to relate to how he felt or what he was feeling I say to you as I write this that I feel really fucking sorry for you for never being a human man experiencing a true Human Experience.

Yes of course, we are all human but to torture yourself and live in that state of melancholy for what can seem to be an interminable time, even though it may be brief can damage you more than you know.
After a while you just have to say, " for God's sake man, pull yourself together ".
