Spectacular. Have been listening to the Kinks since elementary school. British envasion was wonderful. The Kinks have always been at the top. This is coming from a black man who loves rock n roll. Father Christmas is my all time favorite Christmas song. Along with Donnie Hathaway's Christmas song. Great songs, both of them.
@jerrygrant8139 Sorry for misspelling invasion, guys and gals.
You guys do remember you listen to Arthur by the Kinks right?
"Lola" if you haven't already!
I have listened to the Kinks from the 60s and have never heard of this song, loved the lyrics 🎄🎄Happy Christmas Ryan, Nathan and your families.
You guys loved the Arthur album . Remember Ray and Dave Davies Shangri-la Victoria etc
Brilliant, should be everybody's favorite Christmas song!!!
It's been my favorite Xmas song for decades. God Save the Kinks!
1977 I was 19, It’s my favorite Christmas song then and now. “Have yourself a merry merry Christmas have yourself a good time but remember the kids who have nothing while you’re drinking down your wine”. That’s the true meaning of this song. More Kinks songs, “Lola”, “You Really Got Me”, “All Day and All of the Night”, “Victoria”,
The Kinks were the best UK song from the start
My favorite Christmas song ever. I heard this song on the radio in the 80s and I fell in love with it.
The Kinks are the most under-rated band in rock history; the fact that you have never heard their songs is just par for the course.
They.are.not.underrated.
Wasn’t Ray knighted (CBE) not long ago?? Long live the Kinks!!
🎸🎸🎸
The Kinks basically invented punk before punk existed.
Here in working class Philadelphia, we grew up with this song on the radio every holiday, at least through the mid-eighties. I can only assume that it isn't as well known or played is because, like too many Kinks' songs, it makes too many people uncomfortable.
Interestingly, I see that you two actually listened through the entire Arthur album about a year ago, a reaction of yours that I thoroughly enjoyed, but that The Kinks must have fallen hard off of your radar since, which is a shame, as it appears that you would both really love a deep dive into their extensive catalogue.
Keep up the good work!
Gentlemen, the Kinks are one of the great bands of all time.
There is an official Kinks video for this song.
The Kinks do a song about the kids doing the mugging called “ Slum Kids “. Check it out.
Guys listen to more Kinks. They're a great band
A great Kinks album is "Arthur: Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire"
Checkout Postcard From London, and Come Dancing.
Basically this song says give people money who need it. Not stupid toys that really mean nothing
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs of all time, they used to play it on classic rock radio through the 80s all the time around Christmas time
This is where The Kinks almost became punk. Great, slightly underestimated band.
The Kinks were punk in 1964 with You Really Got Me and All Day and All of the Night (and much else); this, if anything, marked their return after the 1970 to 1975 hiatus, and came out around the time of their Sleepwalker album.
Never heard of this song and I was an adult when it came out.
Dude with the beard, "how had I never heard of this song," how had you never heard of the KINKS for the luvva Jesus! I bet you remember "You Really Got Me" because you heard the Van Halen cover version. Anyway, dig in to the Kinks, me boy, and discover the best of the British Invasion bands. Great albums from 1964 to 1984 (after that, well, a few good songs here and there). You can never listen to enough KINKS.
The whole world huh?
"I believe in father christmas" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer is also a great song. In my humble opinion I think it is better than this by Kinks.
Please actually listen to the words and realize it's poor kids saying give us money, screw your stupid toys, my Dad needs a job, and give me a machine gun so I can impress my friends ... its from a poor kid's point of view. Great punk song, but not supposed to be funny once you listen to it. Think about the kids who got nothin', while you're drinking down your wine... that's the message...
