Funny this video comes up because I put a couple of my used watches on ebay. Ebay is robbing me now. They charge 15 percent of sales, taxes and shipping. Why on earth are they making me pay on taxes, I don't get any of that! I think that is ridiculous. I'm not a flipper, I am working on getting better watches this year, so I'm letting go some I don't wear. I bought 3 watches already this year. One a Swiss Mido automatic. Love you videos, Wes as always!
It wouldn't be ebay charging shipping and taxes, it would be the seller. If you're buying from a retailer on ebay rather than just from an individual and depending on your and their location, they may be liable to pay some kind of sales tax which will of course be paid by you as the buyer, just as you'd do if you bouht from a brick and mortar store.
Good to know, I wouldn't get into flipping for the money but was thinking of picking up some short-term watches to try for a while and resell if I didn't love them. Some things to keep in mind re: breaking even.
@drewzero1 I flip occasionally, just to keep my collection at a round figure, I sell on other platforms which I do break even on. Some lose some gain, others I get what I paid for them. eBay is ok just to get rid of them. If they sell at all
Also because among the non-enthusiasts who make up the majority of eBay's userbase, there isn't a strong argument for spending >$50 on a Chinese no-name watch and significant arguments against doing so. An enthusiast might point to the trustworthy Seiko movement, the quality of the crystal and so on as justification for spending Western watch level money on a Chinese brand but a non-enthusiast looking to spend $100 or more on a step up watch is more likely to buy e.g. a Citizen or an entry-level Seiko, and that's completely understandable. Meanwhile, an enthusiast who understands the arguments above also knows they can get the watch brand-new on AliExpress for less that what the would-be scalper is trying to sell it for on eBay, so it's not a great business model either way.
Selling something on eBay as 'used' is always going to have an impact on the price. I don't know how you describe your listings but maybe it would help increase the offers if you make it clear in the listing that you purchased the watch just for the purpose of reviewing it for your channel, and are selling so you can raise money for future purchases for UA-cam content. If you don't do this already of course, I have bought an ex-review Militado watch on eBay from a different You tube watch reviewer. I bought it because I was confident that it would be in pristine condition and problem free - it was. Ordinarily I would be very wary of buying used watches from eBay but I had more confidence because it was being sold by a reviewer and delivery would be in a few days
Hey Wes great videos as always. Could you do a state of the collection showing the watches you have kept for your personal collection and why you kept them that would be great

@HoratioChinn Yes, everyone has to pay.
these whist watch connected are so bad and horrible on aliexpress
You're making losses on eBay due to the amount of sellers selling watches. There's just too many.
Great video 👍

What’s your eBay link?
Hey Wes when sharing ‘sell’ price are you giving ‘net net’ sales price with approx 13 % eBay fees deducted and your shipping costs ? 🍻 cheers
Shipping paid by buyer.
@@weswatchesBut ebay takes a percent of even that because it is added into the total of the fees ebay charges you!
@weswatches ebay still gets a percentage of that, too, since it's added into the final total.

Hey great content as usual. Do sell via store if so I’d like the name of eBay store
