Excellent video! Which version of MPCNC post processor are you using for Marlin. I seem to be getting issues when I use the Fusion 360 Gcode on my Marlin Controller.
Thanks a bunch Mayur! That really makes my day! It's a very very early version of the post processor. Check out the forums on V1engineering.com for the latest. I think there's a gethub entry probably with some support there too. Thanks again!
Thanks for this great video. I have only one question: if instead of engravings, I want to cut a piece as high as the material (wood panel)? how should I proceed ? Thank you Manuel
Thanks for watching ! I haven’t actually tried cutting this, but it seems like this will work. There may be a better way, perhaps someone else can comment? 1 ) sketch your shape 2 ) extrude the shape to the height of your material 3 ) Go to CAM, and create a setup a) set operation to cutting b) Model should be the extruded model you created. c) Select Stock Tab d) Adjust stock size to match your stock. e) Click OK on the setup dialog. 4) Select 2D - 2D Contour a) Select a tool b) Switch to Geometry tab. c) Click contour selection, and select the top outline of your shape d) Enable and setup tabs if needed e) Select Heights tab f) Set bottom height to stock bottom g) Select Passes tabs h) Enable multiple depths I) Adjust step-downs as needed j) Select OK on the 2D Contour Dialog box At this point you should see the cut path drawn around your shape, repeating at each step-down. 5 ) Select post processing a) Adjust any property settings as needed b ) Click OK on the post processing dialog. c ) save GCODE file 6 ) Make your initial runs in air or foam until you’re comfortable everything is correct Like I said, I haven’t actually tried cutting this, but the output seems to be reasonable. Let me know how it works out for you, and add/edit any steps. Don’t be afraid to press buttons and try things. You can’t break anything, until it’s time to put the bit to the material !
Some Old Guy Coding Anyway ... cutting or hacking the Post Process to choose is that "v10 Sdcard ...." even if i run gcode from software instead of sd right?. I'm watching all your videos. Awesome ;) (sorry my bad english)
Yes, that post-processor will generate the correct Gcode for the MPCNC. You should be able to stream that to the machine using Pronterface, or other control software as well as from the SD. Good luck !
I know this an old tutorial, but it's the point I'm at. In fact, I haven't yet mounted my spindle and made a spoil board yet.I followed through and made a circle like you did in Fusion, but added text, exploded the text, and continued to generate the g-code. I then ran the simulation and it appeared that the model was being carved out with the text standing proud and the surrounding material carved away! Like I had modeled a circle, added text and extruded the area outside the text and cut it. Not an engraving that followed the circle and the centerline of the text! What did I do wrong?
Sorry for the late reply. I had to play with fusion for a bit, it's been a while. Try using a 2D->Engrave operation for your text and see if that works out for you. Thanks for watching!
I need your last help. I followed every step of the video. Everything works correctly and I did the first cutting test by running the gcode from RepetierHost. The only problem I have is that the "stock box" set in the CAM should be my cnc x0 y0 angle ... instead no. Is the corner to the side .. Is it a setting in the firmware or should I fix it in Fusion? Thanks so much :)
Hmmm. I see from your youtube channel you've run other jobs, so I don't think it will be anything with the firmware. Where you place your stock in fusion in comparision to the 0,0,0 point will end up being where you need to place the stock on the machine. Perhaps post a video of the problem?
Thanks! I've mostly gone back to Estlcam. While the GUI takes a little getting used to, I'm just finding it's my goto path to get things done. I should go back to Fusion and learn the cam better, but I found it frustrating just having to describe my simple bits when there are 1000's already in the system. Maybe I just missed something.
Awesome, I'm glad you're getting into Fusion 360. I have managed to get a few good cuts out of it so far. I think I have been using the v10 post processor. I think maybe I used the other one for laser once, but for some reason, I think I read it was not quite ready for milling yet. Lars had like a web class that is available on the Autodesk channel called "Fusion 360 CAM Basics Webinar - October 2016". I got a lot out of that one. I'm not that interested in Fusion 360 for CAD. I like OnShape better.
Opps, sorry I should have been more specific. I was following the steps that you were going through: www.vicious1.com/software-updates/, followed link to (V9 or V10 from the main thread www.vicious1.com/forum/topic/fusion-360/page/6/. It seems a link was added to the post which covers up the Attachment (screen shot pasteboard.co/azWQ0Girr.png). I finally went into view source and was able to get the link there. Sharing here in case someone else is looking for it. Can you see the same issue? www.vicious1.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/MPCNC_Fusion360_V10_SDcard.cps_.zip
This was super helpful. I've just started out in Fusion 360, and setups and tool definition were head scratchers. (It didn't help that for account verification reasons, Fusion 360 was discarding tool definitions because it couldn't save the file. Silently, of course, because otherwise where's the sport?) Being able to compare where your UI actions worked and mine didn't solved my problem. A note to others following SOGC's steps, pay a lot of attention to the axis orientation he suggests before creating elements of your model (in my case, importing an SVG that I exported from Illustrator.) It's much harder to get tool orientation correct if you don't work with Z up.

Smart move to start with styrofoam!
So glad I came across this. I love Fusion 360 and in the final stages of tweaking my first MPCNC.
glad you liked it. I haven't checked out the CAM part of fusion recently, so this video could be a bit dated.
Thanks for watching and commenting!

I haven’t actually tried cutting this, but it seems like this will work.

1 ) sketch your shape
2 ) extrude the shape to the height of your material
3 ) Go to CAM, and create a setup
a) set operation to cutting
b) Model should be the extruded model you created.
c) Select Stock Tab
d) Adjust stock size to match your stock.
e) Click OK on the setup dialog.
4) Select 2D - 2D Contour
a) Select a tool
b) Switch to Geometry tab.
c) Click contour selection, and select the top outline of your shape
d) Enable and setup tabs if needed
e) Select Heights tab
f) Set bottom height to stock bottom
g) Select Passes tabs
h) Enable multiple depths
I) Adjust step-downs as needed
j) Select OK on the 2D Contour Dialog box
At this point you should see the cut path drawn around your shape, repeating at each step-down.
5 ) Select post processing
a) Adjust any property settings as needed
b ) Click OK on the post processing dialog.
c ) save GCODE file
6 ) Make your initial runs in air or foam until you’re comfortable everything is correct

I'm really enjoying your MPCNC videos. Are you still actively using Fusion 360 Cam or are you back to using Estlcam?

Looks like some info has changed- does anyone have a link to the most recent post processing script for Fusion 360?

Thanks.. So you're just importing your files to use the cam portion and the post processing.
So far I have just played around with their little logo file, but yeah, that's what I am planning.
Anyone else getting this errror upon post processing? Error: Failed to evaluate post configuration.
Code page changed to '1252
Check on the V1Engineering Forum, if you haven't already...
Anyone else having issues getting the V10 ? MPCNC_Fusion360_V10_SDcard.zip, the post seems to be covered up for me
Where are you trying to pull it from? Gethub?

I contacted Ted about the issue, he is aware of it and is trying to find a solution.

Thanks for these man really helps a lot
