    Nice video mate and some great advice on prepping them I was just wondering as I only fish canals and the odd small pool since I got back into the sport is if they would work added to a canal ground bait once there prepared as I've thought about trying pellets to see if the bream will take them but not got round to it yet as not sure and can you prepare the bigger sizes the same for hook bait or use a different type of pellet

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  Рік тому +1

      You can definitely catch Canal bream on pellets and a 3 or 4mm expander over micros can be very good, but depends on the canal and it’s head of bream/skimmers. Pellets definitely work on the Grand Union for example, but I never got to make them work ok the staffs-Worcester.

    Hi Jon,
    Hope the chest is better.
    Need a favour! I’m a club match angler and my start to the year has been shocking. We fish a different venue each month. My next match is on Moody Molands at Packington. I need at least a section win to pull in some points. Fishing it on Sunday 11th June. Heard there are F1’s in there and never fished an F1 venue ever! Any tips you can share so I can start prepping rigs and planning some kind of strategy?
    Is it a snake lake or more open water? Depth? Best tactics / bait etc.
    Thank you for your time.

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  11 місяців тому +1

      Still having a few setbacks healthwise which is getting frustrating now! As for Molands, I’ve done a few vids on there so it’s definitely not a typical f1 venue as they go up to 12lb (yes 12lb f1s) and average 3lb and lots of carp to 20lb too. Method feeder tight across safest option for at least an hr. 13m caster or 4mm pellet shallow might work for f1s. Edges important at mo, but heaving with silvers so banded 6 or 8mm can work, corn, big meat or paste. Minimum 0.14 hooklengths and much heavier if catching carp. Bomb and pellet wag tight over with 8mms another option. You’ll catch f1s and carp on that. It’s 25-30m wide and up to 7ft in places and edges typically 2.5ft. Big 60 peg lake.

    • @dkgambituk
      @dkgambituk 11 місяців тому +1

      @@JonArthur Thanks Jon, much appreciated. What’s the ratio of carp vs F1’s in Molands?

    • @JonArthur
      @JonArthur  10 місяців тому

      sorry missed this, but probably about 75/25 in favour of F1s. The carp are mostly on the island and more likely to just see F1s in open water

    Hilarious Jon with the tea 🤣
    Still find best way is to put 650g Stikki pellets in a 1.1 litre clip secure close tub pour water in until just level with top of pellets, clip lid tightly on and fridge over night. The tub restricts the pellets blowing and I assume the pressure evens out to force moisture around even through all pellets. Just takes a bit of effort to knock them out next day. See NuFish video from Mick…

    I'm afraid my favourite brand of pellets are no longer available, they were ready in 3-5 minutes. Maybe they were the same skrettings, but they were superb. If I have a fair amount left over, I will dry them completely and when I mix them the second time I add a tablespoon or so of Horlicks after draining them to make them sticky or add a little syrup flavouring. I might try that brick method though sometime.

      What I tend to do with the 1mm pellets is prepare my 2mm as normal and when I get to my peg I add a hand full of 1mm to the 2mm and mix and leave them while I set up and the 1mm will take on water and be just right when I start fishing.

    Hi John, Since I've used pellets, pretty much since the advent of Commercial fisheries in the early 90's I've only ever used Skretting's Micro Pellets (Direct from Scotland 25kg bags). Coppen's just don't seem to take on any additives at all (including Water??). One of my favorite tricks is to take a 1/2 a 3.3pt tub and pour scolding water straight from the kettle onto them. (then whilst hot add scopex or "other").. It practically reduces them to what I call "Smulch". Bottom of the far shelf but above the silt line.. This can be deadly for the better stamp F1's & Carp.... Just keep angling the way you do, but give them some treats... (I roll the Smulch balls into whatever shape i want, then add them to my introduction feed)... I've had several 200-400lb weights at Heronbrook & Barston using this method... Fish everywhere else as you would, but instead of a throwaway line, I make it a Smulch line.... Won me more money against morons than you could imagine John!!!😂😂
