Yeah the extra 50hp or so and miles better chassis don't hurt either. This is no R7. Its an MT-07R. They're just sh1tting on the R7 name for easy sales of a half assed bike.
@@siraff4461 with your logic I could cry like a bitch and complain if they named it a MT 07R because I associate that bike as a naked bike that sits more upright instead of an aggressive, fully faired, super sport type design. Either way you can cry all you want but it’s useless and annoying. you’re not gonna get the name to change, and all the people who aren’t as fragile as you don’t even care
Man, as much as I want them to make parallel twin bikes (I've been wanting them to build parallel twin bikes since 2001 and they finally started doing it recently)... But 4 cylinder engines are the best street engine, period. And they need to continue production on 4 cylinder bikes. They need to make 4 cylinder "Adventure Bikes." Because there is no replacement for 4 cylinder smoothness.
I actually think the solution at this point is to build more 4 cylinder bikes. Harley Davidson needs to build a transverse mounted 4 cylinder bike, similar to the very early 1931 Henderson, where the engine sits lengthwise in the frame, because because it would look substantial and beautiful, and would be different, similar to the Triumph Rocket III. And I think all the manufacturers need to build inline 4 cylinder, 600cc Adventure Bikes. A 600cc 4 cylinder engine can produce 115 horsepower, with 47 ft lbs of torque, with extremely good mid range power, and no chain lash, even at super low speeds, with a passenger on the back. I believe they could use the Suzuki Hayabusa engine on an Adventure Bike, it has insane torque, and low end "grunt." It would produce 188 horsepower, being 1340cc. Or a Suzuki Bandit 1250 engine, oil and air cooled, and tuned for low end torque. Why is there no Suzuki Bandit 1250cc inline 4 cylinder Adventure Bike? I don't want a V-Twin adventure bike dammit! Give me a beautiful, massive 4 cylinder, with a counterbalancer, and glassy smooth highway performance!
So happy to finally get a video from an educated motorcycle enthusiast who understands that the R7 is not meant to be a direct replacement for the R6. I hope to see an R9 soon to bridge that gap as you mentioned. Great POV and video.
@A fairly large but not quite small BEAN yeah but the 1000cc has 200bhp and the 900 cp3 engine 115bhp so that a 95bhp difference... see it as an r6 but with a more linear power line
@@stevendebruine5866 that's why i love my FZ09. It's fast enough for spirited rides and the track, but it is created in a way that gives me easy power on the streets. I don't want 200hp to commute, yet I'd instantly buy a fully faired and better suspended MT09.
Then they shouldn't have used the R designation. I understand, it is marketing. But, still, an S designation would have been more accurate. I am certain that, although rare, there will be that R6 rider who sees this bike, doesn't watch motovlogs, thinks that it's an upgrade, and buys it, then is horribly disappointed.
I mean if you blandly look at it it's an mt07 with plastics. But it's also got new suspension, a more agressive headtubeangle, more potent brakes and leavers, a wider rear tire, and a differently tuned motor(where i can imagine that the gearing is also slightly different). That's enough to call it a totally different bike.
@@Real_MisterSir MT03 and R3, MT07 and R7 being beginner friendly bikes. The MT09 and R9 the hairy chested of the bunch. Funny how the Japanese makes are going for beginner friendly models while Aprilia and Triumph target more experienced riders wanting more power in the 600cc+ machines.
most people dont know about that r7, they only made 500 for the street and 1000 for the track if i remember right. my buddy had one, it was a fun bike for back then
I wanted to move to R6 after my first bike (300cc) but the R7 is now looking like a better option. I want a more comfortable sports bike but with still impressive enough power so I honestly think the R7 is a great option for more regular rider that dont go to the track
The bikes out now and is appreciated by many, but something I (someone who has never even rode a motorcycle once) want to add to the thoughts here, the fact this has 70ish hp rather than the 90 you had hoped for, allows me to aspire to get this as a first bike. As the yamaha cp2 motors tend to make torque, this is stretching the definition of a starter bike with room to grow into. Without doubt, had this 20hp more it would categorically not be a starter bike unless it was as soft and dead in the low end as say the cbr650R is. This is honestly the perfect bike for me as someone who is wanting a beginner bike that will give me room to not outgrow quickly, especially when I have 0 interest in commuting on this. I dont know, maybe because of my lack of experience I'm talking nonsense, but this is so attractive to me as a new rider looking for a very fun first bike and I feel it would be out of reach if it was much more powerful, like how the r6 is. Edit: the cbr650r can certainly get you in trouble, but because of how it makes torque a lot of reviewers have said it's suitable to start on because it's not as twitchy as a mt07 and r7 for instance. That's why I name dropped it specifically
Noob here... pulled the trigger and got the R7. New follower to your channel and I want to thank you for all the info you provide. Did my research and I think this is the bike for me to start on. I approach the bike with respect and a bit of fear... i'd be pretty stupid if I didn't. I did not want to spend the money on a 300, cause we ain't all rich like some folks, and upgrade after a year. Before purchasing it I had to sit on it and made sure it felt right.... and it did. Hope to learn lots from my experience with it. Can't wait to see the full review from you.
I'm a bit disappointed in the power numbers but other than that it seems like a nice bike. I'd still probably go with the CBR650R instead since I prefer I4s and it has more upright ergos and more HP.
I feel like the R7 scratches the supersport itch that many want without the pricetag or the silly power. I love sportbikes but have somewhat started to lose interest in the 600cc+ class of bikes as I got older (turning 34 soon). They are not very fun to ride around town, upkeep is expensive, not very economical to run and heavy. I now ride a Ninja400 and having a blast. I use it to commute, ride around town and get my knee down on the twisties on the weekend. My only complaints about the Ninja 400 would be the fact that the rider ergo is maybe too relaxed for spirited riding and it just lacks that little more ooomph. This is why the R7 looks perfect for me at least. Relatively cheap, looks nice, aggressive position, enough power for 99% of riders and doesn't weigh too much. My prediction would be that R7 will sell like hotcakes and in the meanwhile RS660 would do okay but sell no where near the amount R7 would. Yammy will call it the superior choice for years to come but Aprilia will continue to have issues because Italian.
100% agree Shiba. I just swapped my Ninja 300 to an MT07 for the same reason - lack of torque and acceleration. The riding position also could have been more sporty and I rode an RC390 but it's way too small for me. Otherwise the Ninja 300 in my opinion a perfect bike - cheap, easy to ride, great looks, good quality for a budget bike too. I wish the R7 was already available and is probably my top choice at the moment. Unfortunately 13,000 for a ZX6R is too much for me and we have a really bad used bike market in our country so that doesn't leave many options
Why not just call it the MT07-R? Cause, my personal Yamaha fanboi inside voice says "y'all done fucked up, now, Yamaha..." that is NOT a cannon "R" bike by any means, per thier line up. It's an MT-07, with plastics.
600cc supersport bikes are not heavy though? The R6 and R7 weigh pretty much exactly the same. Even modern 1000cc bikes are dropping below the 440lb mark.
@@dillonvillon cbr650r and rs660 are in the same class. R7 is more akin to the ninja 650. The cbr and rs make considerably more power than the ninja and r7.

The first time looking for my next bike next year ( I know right .. ) I thought the R6 was gonna be it. It just looked amazing, I was super exited with the R7 but when I compared it myself I still leaned more to the R6. Nailed it! After tracking the R7 I was blown away. Handling was fantastic and I really felt I could wring it’s neck and have fun on it. It’s most certainly nothing like the MT07 which I was super relieved about 😅
This is the video I have been waiting for. I was absolutely in the wrong mindset of what the R7 is supposed to be. This makes complete sense and definitely has me looking forward to it. As a 6’4 male weighting 230 on a cheat day, the R6 made me nervous for a first bike and the R3 seemed underwhelming as I will need to have responsibility over budget choosing the singular bike that will get me riding and last at least 5 years of experience. I’m really excited to sit on this thing and feel the ergonomics first hand. Awesome video!
@FR yeah and that’s what is really helping consider pursuing a bike. I know I’ll have the responsibility and control. I really like the R6, always have. No need for a liter bike at least as far as I can tell for now. I know the R6 is arguably the least comfortable position wise of the sport bikes. The mt 07 seems like a great middle ground for me but I hate the naked bike look. R7 might be that Goldie locks bike until I decide if I’m officially a biker or just a weekend warrior lol. I appreciate your response, thank you.
Next year, or two at the latest. They knew before they released the R7 that people would be crying out for the R9. Back in 2014 when the 09 first came out people talked about how they should have made a faired version.
Yup unfortunately discontinues the R6 due to lack of interest. Reason being is many people feel the R6 is the weakest sports bike. Yamaha really should've figured that and made a true R7 successor.
Seeing this now knowing that Yamaha is being slick with them registering the R9 name and all I can see what Yamaha is doing. beginner made R3 midweight R7 and advanced rider R9 to finally end on the R1 for pro riders. They're making a direct line in their productions. R3 already one of the best selling motorcycle in the world the R7 already proved to be super popular now. Mt-09 is already super popular so imagine its R version. Simply ending on the R1 its genius

I'm an old timer that loves it. I prefer twins. I do wish it looked more like that R3 though. That is a really nice looking bike. 700 twin should make a swell sporty street bike for riders with some semblance of self preservation.

How much is a CBR650R? They are about 9k€ in Germany, with 95 hp, traction Control and an i4 engine. Quickshifter is optional aswell. I think that bike is also a rival of the R7
Pretty good business decision honestly. By reusing the mt07 frame and engine that saves R&D and mfg. costs. And the R6 in my opinion was too aggressively stanced for everyday/commuter street riding. The R6 is great for track tho, I think they just wanted to be able to sell more to people who wanna daily their bike and still track it on weekends. Not that you couldn't do that on an R6, but it might be a better demographic reach and for not a lot of cost in redesign. It would have been sweet if the R7 had a bit more power though. It'll be fine lol

Wouldn't r9 have just as much hp as a r6? They would have a hard time marketing it. Like it's an r6 but more comfortable. All it's gonna cost you is 12000 for one less cylinder.
Just an MT07 with a few running gear upgrades and some fancy plastics, they haven't even given the engine any extra performance or added any extra electronics other than the (up only!!) quick shifter option .... it's a 4/10 for effort from me ... although at around £8K in the UK it does make the £10K price of the RS660 seem a bit more reasonable as the RS offers a fair bit more performance and toys.
If the R7 is anything like the MT07- the engine has some accessible power with a full exhaust and tune, 95 - 100hp is very doable with nothing but a yosh an ecu flash. Adds about 900 in cost but gets it much closer to the RS660 power output while still having more than one dealer in your state.
Why buy this if you can get the MT09 SP version or the ZX6R for almost the same price? Unless of course you compete in twin cups but honestly 98% of you are not.
well because yamaha is yamaha so zx6r is not an option..and you can't get the sportiness of R series from MT09..and for me this is a good upgrade coming from r3..hehehehe
Everyone who complains about CP2 engine with its lack of 100+ horsepower and 'missing' two cylinders - you are the same people who would have complained about the 2-stroke engines being phased out decades ago. Yes, a 2stroke gives way more power per CC than a 4stroke. Yes a 4cylinder gives way more top end per similar CC than a 2cylinder. The same way people complained about electronics on bikes. But changes and advances make bikes like the Tuono V4, Ducati V4 and S1000RR approachable for all but the most beginner riders. Stop hating and complaining. If you dont like this bike, its not meant for you. Simple as that. But there's an entire generation of bikers who dont have 13,000 euros to drop on a new 600, who will rarely go to the track and want something exactly like the R7 offers.

It will not replace it because its not ment to replace the YZF-R6. Its only called R7 not YZF-R7. This bike was made because the MT07 sells really well and the complete lack of really sporty Supersport bikes under 100hp. hey Yammie, your business degree is showing: you can't cost cut the electronics out of the RS660. It has throttle by wire so most of the stuff is just programming on the ECU. sure you could take out the shift pressure sensor, but that's a minor cost cut. Having two different dashes is not going to cut much cost at all, and in fact incur further cost in terms of development, as well as factory complexity and supply chain complexity.
Okay. I have to say.. I'VE COME TO LOVE THAT THEY MADE THIS BIKE. I have literally been looking for a bike like this. I wanted an mt07 engine with that sound and torque, but the sportbike look, and a feel right between both. Yet when they made it I didn't want it. But now I'm realizing it is literally exactly what I wanted. I just wish the fairing was painted blue and was a bit wider and more aggressive. A naked bike could work but it's the UK so fairings are useful for more than just aerodynamics.

The R7 name fits cuz it’s literally what it is. If anything, it fits better than the old R7, because the other one was a 750.
Nobody is selling their R6 for an R7- completely different bikes

Ride safe, ride well, have fun!
That's good, but we are talking talking about the R7.
So happy to finally get a video from an educated motorcycle enthusiast who understands that the R7 is not meant to be a direct replacement for the R6. I hope to see an R9 soon to bridge that gap as you mentioned. Great POV and video.
I wanna see R4
No R9 because 7 8 9.
Hey Yams! Can you put the yamcasts into a playlist and possibly put time stamps in the yamcasts for different topics discussed. Thank you!
Beginning of video: "They just slapped some plastic on an MT07."
End of video: "It's totally different than an MT07"
I mean if you blandly look at it it's an mt07 with plastics.
But it's also got new suspension, a more agressive headtubeangle, more potent brakes and leavers, a wider rear tire, and a differently tuned motor(where i can imagine that the gearing is also slightly different). That's enough to call it a totally different bike.
Well it can be whatever you want.. weather you want it to be true or false, it's all upto you

An R9M with the engine and tech of the MT-09SP would be a great daily bike.
R9 would make a lot of sense honestly. Fits well within the R7 and the R1 not just in power, but also in engine type and power delivery.
Omg I thought this as soon as the R7 was announced 🙏🏻

i got 21 mt-09 base. I would love to see R9 or M even with tuned mt09 engine.
But won't that make the R1 pointless
Personally i think the r7 from the late 90s can never be replaced but saying that ive always wanted a super sport version of the mt 07 lmaoo
most people dont know about that r7, they only made 500 for the street and 1000 for the track if i remember right. my buddy had one, it was a fun bike for back then
The original R7 was a top-end, extremely exclusive, race homologation bike... this one is ghetto by comparison.
It's not trying to replace the old r7, just like the ninja 400 wasn't trying to replace the old 4 cylinder version.
Ok boomer
Everyone upset about some limited edition bike they have never even seen before that was made 25 years ago
The solution for yamaha is the R9 using the MT-09 triple. Maybe sportier ergos and electronics.
I wanted to move to R6 after my first bike (300cc) but the R7 is now looking like a better option. I want a more comfortable sports bike but with still impressive enough power so I honestly think the R7 is a great option for more regular rider that dont go to the track
That intro was the most glorious thing I’ve seen all day
The bikes out now and is appreciated by many, but something I (someone who has never even rode a motorcycle once) want to add to the thoughts here, the fact this has 70ish hp rather than the 90 you had hoped for, allows me to aspire to get this as a first bike.
Middleweight bikes are the best. A true sweet spot with weight and power. At least for the street :)
Shhh these noobs haven’t notice Yamaha has been dropping cylinders to cut cost buy those old bikes they are legend.
bro there will be a fared trident!! oh my heart!!!! That is the bike to get!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@shadow_realm47 a faired Trident would a cool bike for sure, likely better than the R7. Yamaha should have updated the CP2 for ~95 HP for the R7.
Not expensive at all if you work on your own bike lmao
@@hondafanboy1856 Good luck working on bikes with ton of electronics lmao.

You called it? So did about 95% of the rest of the motorcycle journalists and UA-camrs in the world. It wasn't like it was hard to see coming.
Unless of course you compete in twin cups but honestly 98% of you are not.
well because yamaha is yamaha so zx6r is not an option..and you can't get the sportiness of R series from MT09..and for me this is a good upgrade coming from r3..hehehehe
the zx6r starts at 12,5k where I am at
Finally I see your opinion, couldn't agree more 👍🏻

That's important for Yamaha because the R7 has under 95hp and can therefore be restricted to 48 which makes its compliant with the the A2 License in Europe. If u want a kinda successor for the R6 you need to wait for the R9
@@floriankuche9828 So like I said - its an MT-07 in a frock with the name of a great to help it sell.
if they didn't want to pull a fast one they should call it what it is - an MT-07R or an MTR-07.
You do realise what the letters in MT and YZF denote, don't you? By Yamaha's own definition this couldn't be an R7 yet here we are - after marketing suits no doubt thought they could sell a few extra by simply tacking on a name the bike has no place wearing.
@@siraff4461 So they should start a new line up? No one complained about the R3/125 not being called MT03/125R. And they are even less of a Supersport bike. Why make it complicated by using a name that's associated with a naked bike? Thats just dumb because it would make the lineup way more complicated and confusing. Just keep it simple MT=Naked, R=Supersport
It's not supposed to replace it, the r6 died because it couldn't pass emission regulations and probably wasn't making money since people who could afford it would rather get a 1000cc bike.
Thanks for the quick-take on the" R7" and agree that they're diluting the R brand with this... I would have called it FZ-7R... I think
600cc is my favorite class too, but still exploring...
If kawi comes with 690 🌚
they'll make it like a 726 or something because they cheatin lil bishes like that
What I really want, is the R-10.
It's going to be a bike that noobs can get on, and feel like they are on a litre bike. Except for when they go to accelerate and they get taken by a VW Bug and they can't even catch up..
Nothing more than a parts bin with a scooter amount of hp.. but hey, to each their on.. I personally am sticking to my R1..
This bikes a beauty, and I say this proudly... I LOVE my CBR500R. But wanted something a little more peppy, leaned forward. This will let me get some more track feel on the street, less Dad mode on my CBR. Quick shifter should be a no brainer with this bike, disappointed its not stock. Pumped to get my hands on one, and no I wont be letting go of my CBR500R, its a beauty of a bike for city driving. Will pass that down to my son with the mods. Already contacted my dealer for the R7! haha.
Yam. This is not an r7, this is an r-07. Says it right on the bike🤘
Id absolutely love it if Yamaha did what they did with the FZ07 to the FZ09. The R9.
All the people on social that dog this thing and say "it'll never replace the r6!" are goobers. That clearly isn't the point.
I always wanted a fairing kit for my mt07 so I see this as an absolute win.
As long as it still wheelies for days.
I also really hope they make the R9. That triple is amazing.
Yammie's never gonna admit that there exists R15 and R125 in R series of Yamaha.😂😂
hey Yammie, your business degree is showing: you can't cost cut the electronics out of the RS660.
Some thing in me want to belive that the yamaha R7 is faster than the R6
Okay. I have to say.. I'VE COME TO LOVE THAT THEY MADE THIS BIKE. I have literally been looking for a bike like this. I wanted an mt07 engine with that sound and torque, but the sportbike look, and a feel right between both. Somehow tho, when I saw this bike It looks better than what I was even willing to settle for, hit handles better than what I would settle for too and it's priced better too. YET, when I saw the bike and read about it on the site I was like wtf is the point lmaoooo They literally made the bike I want 100% and I was looking at ways to get an mt07 to be like this which would cost a fortune and not look or ride as well. Yet when they made it I didn't want it. But now I'm realizing it is literally exactly what I wanted. I just wish the fairing was painted blue and was a bit wider and more aggressive. Like I might still want a typical sportbike just for the look. Idk how to feel. I'm just being a baby. I am literally the market for this bike and I'm complaining. So I definitely understand why people who never wanted anything like this are butthurt! Riders are just big babies about some things lmao....... OKAY I just remembered why I hated it at first. It truly does not replace the R6. I never would have bought an R6 but it still makes me wonder wtf they're thinking.
90 Horses and at least an aluminium swingarm!
Sorry, man, it's more like 72.3bhp at 8,750rpm and 50lb-ft of torque at 6,500rpm. 😓
I currently ride a GSXR125 over 100 miles to work and back each day in the UK and I really like the ergonomics of being a sports bike but not a hardcore track bike - when moving on to a big bike I'd be looking for something like the R7 I think, that is obviously more powerful and still sporty but doesn't kill my back riding it for 4 hours a day. A naked bike could work but it's the UK so fairings are useful for more than just aerodynamics.
Now imagine if Triumph take one of their twins, put it in the daytona frame and to the same. That would be a big surprise
Or they could just put the triple from the trident lol
*disappointment.... you misspelled disappointment.
@@DaemonWulf7 Disappointment is the new Hayabusa and it's lack of a turbo. Frankly anything daring is already better than Suzuki
@@DaemonWulf7 That's why I said surprising, it doesn't make much sense, would just be ... bold
What a crazy intro for "I told you so"
