  • Ingersoll VS Harbor Freight Earth Quake, Ingersoll has a one inch electric impact that they purport 2,600 ft. lbs of torque, it costs 1,400 dollars. Harbor Freight has a one inch air impact that they purport 2,500 ft. lbs. of torque at a cost of 289 dollars, lets see which one is the better value

    I don't turn wrenches for a living, but I am in commercial construction. Lately I have noticed that the legacy companies are not the same as they once were. Personally, I think they aren't hungry like they were. I think the sons and grandsons are more about profit than quality and customer loyalty. I'm not at all surprised that the HF outperformed the IR. Thanks for documenting all this for us.

    Someone I know told me I needed to try this Earth Quake 1/2 inch impact so I bought one. I was so impressed with it that I bought the 3/4 inch EQ impact as well. They work great for me. Until someone shows me a better impact the Earth Quake is the one I will be using until it dies

    You could do a “Will It Start” on the ol’ White. I spent a lot of time in my formative years driving a truck exactly like it. Brings back a lot of memories with my dad and grandpa.

    Great video Jeff always enjoy watching you do comparison of electric over air. Dealing with large old Iron that been together for many years air usually wins the hammers in that electric impact just didn't sound right. Always been a believer in Harbor freight 1 inch guns. Looking good on that track frame. The Galion Crane comes in hand for removing those roller thanks for sharing stay safe Jeff.

    Jay, when I worked for Dow Chemical in S Texas years ago, we had big stuff to take apart, we had big stuff to work with. For 5 inch studs on heat exchangers, we had a 3" drive impact that ran off a large Ingersol compressor. All our teeth would shake,, the ground would shake, and then the nut would come off. I wish you had it for a day. Hang in and win, partner.

    I have a 1” drive that is a Dayton from grainger and I feed it with either a 3/4” or 1” hose with twist lock and pin couplings. and my compressor is set around 175-185 psi. For a cheaper gun it’s done a lot of work in 20 years. Plus I’ve broke 2 6” mechanic vises bolted on to my trucks bumper taking nuts off large cylinder rods, it hits that hard. You can definitely feel it later after a few hours running it. Pretty much all my air tools are Ingersoll, but I was in a pinch when I bought this one. But it’s proven to be a stout tool.

    Your old IR just sounded tired. I was thinking a rebuild until you mentioned that parts had been replaced. I had never though of access issues with the long shaft on the EQ but I'm thinking that waiting on a compressor to build the PSI's back is always going to be a shorter time than batteries recharging. Just don't bust a gut lifting that EQ shoulder high all afternoon. Always enjoy your videos!

    I admit to being an old curmudgeon, but I’ve never bought into the whole battery powered tool thing. It’s ok for a 3/8” drill or a 1/4” impact driver, but for really heavy duty stuff air is the go to. Stands to reason that a big shop air compressor puts out more power than a little battery.

    I had an IR 1/2" electric gun that was nothing but problems for me. The trigger on mine quit working first, then both of the batteries wouldn't charge. Ingersoll was no help to me either, so I gave up and bought a Milwaukee, which walked all over the IR gun with no problems to date. Friend of mine bought a new 3/8" IR air ratchet and I watched him take it out of the box, put a 9/16" socket on it, slide under his truck, and promptly twisted the anvil right off of it with one bolt. Got a new anvil for it and I fixed it for him, but he was mad and said he will never buy another. I also have an older 1" IR extended anvil air gun that really hits hard that I wouldn't trade for anything, so go figure. I got a little stubby Air Cat 1/2" drive gun I absolutely love and use every day that puts my IR guns to shame. I believe Florida Pneumatic makes Air Cat and I also have some of their other air tools that I really like. I used to be of the mind that you get what you pay for, but now I'm thinking not so much anymore.

    Hobo Frieght's Earthquake impact guns are a surprisinly good find. My expieriance with electrics below 50% battery, stop and recharge, air guns need all the air volume and a higher pressure. So bigger, shorter hoses, with the pressure regulator turned up to as much as the compressor/gun will take

    I was thinking about electric tools, .......I am glad I only thought about it, I hear some have gone back to the airline and real tools. The battery stuff discarded. It might be ok to use a battery powered tool for some car applications and new stuff, but really tight stuff needs real tools.

    I will have to look what my big Ingersoll is. It is strong but its not a big one. I got it specifically because its only like an inch longer than my 1/2 2135TiMax The best 1/2" air gun on the planet. That being said we run 175psi line pressure to all our impacts. I think my big IR is rated at 2000ft-lbs in reverse and 1600forward and that is at 90psi. You run a 1/2"hose and 175 and its a beast. I take wheels off combines with it that are torque with a torque multiplier at 1200ft-lb. For its size and weight I consider it a must have. It probably not as stout as the big anvil guns but it only needs like 9" to fit in not 2 foot.

      @Jpaydirt  3 місяці тому

      How do you really know the undo torque, I trusted IR and me thinks they exaggerate a wee bit, as there is no standard testing method, everyone does it different, the best method is in field testing, when I take of the other track frame, one side will be the IR side and the other Hobo Freight then we'll see who's king, by the way I'm getting guys saying I can't compare air to electric and I say torque is torque, what say you?

    air hose size makes all the difference, You also have a ancient ingersol. We run titaniums on chicagos lines at work at 100psi and they hit hard. air hose flow and diameter make all th difference. a 1" titanium ingersol on a 3/4 vs 1" at 100psi hit totally different. Honestly at work we just go to 1 1/2 when the 1" doesnt touch it, then go get the hot wrench and then the big girl. sometimes hydraulics dont even work. I turn wrenches for living on power plants. Cfm and hose size make a difference.

    • @Jpaydirt
      @Jpaydirt  3 місяці тому +2

      That's true, but torque is torque and IR has claimed 2,600, maybe I'm getting more from my hobo freight at 200 psi and the 3/4 hose but they claim 2,500, I argued with an IR rep about air pressure , he claimed that you don't get any more torque above what the gun is rated for, what do you think about what he said

    I have been this route too. An air tool in good condition will always prevail. My old and I mean old air powered Black and Decker 1" drive is slow and heavy, but it still bangs them loose. At the Cat dealer I worked at 30 years ago they had some kind of electric plug in impact wrench that was a beast. You needed a crane to use it! but it would undo bolts or break them off! I think that was a 1 1/2" drive. I would be interested to see how long the Earthquake lasts in everyday service. Anyone out there use one everyday in tire service or heavy repair? Edit: Jeff you mentioned Torque is Torque...yeah I get it, and think the same way. However in the world of impact wrenches...I am not sure what that even means in sales jargon?

    Weighted impact sockets like for crank bolts will give more edge to otherwise weaker impacts.Where it is marginal they will make a difference. None of that is going to matter to a 3/4" - 1" air hose hooked to impact like the Earthquake is going to beat the crap out of electric.

    I got a 1/2 in earthquake and it kicked the IR to the curb over a decade ago

    You sure ruffled the feathers of folks with the Insta post!
    I feel that only half the test was done. Removal...
    Maybe you could run a couple bolts each back in, with each impact, and then grab a torque wrench and see what foot lbs they tighten too? I mean...with even putting tires n wheels on as the battery wears down. Are the last few lug nuts even tight enough? Consistency would be there every time with an air tool,IMO! Thanks for your honesty and sorry about beating your wallet took.😢

    We have 2 earthquakes and they are definitely a good gun for a harbor freight tool.
