2 tbsp butter (45gr)
2 tbsp plain flour
Half an onion
400ml whole milk
Garlic powder, Black pepper, salt (To taste)

No you don't have to :)
My milk isn’t thickening. I followed all your directions. Yes you should put measurements.
If milk doesn’t thicken, add more flour and try doing this on a higher heat to make it thicken faster. I figured it out.
