    I can totally see both sides of the coin on this topic. We personally do pay allowance. Our kids have things they need, but they enjoy having their own spending money. They’ll use it to go pick out special things or sometimes buy things for other people. They used their spending money to buy all their family presents for Christmas this year and that meant so much to them. 😊 We just see it as we are preparing them for the workforce. Let’s face it, we work to get money in life. That’s my take on it, but I can absolutely understand the other side of that coin as well. 👍🏻

    At our house we call it "Sweat Equity" and I couldn't agree more
    No one gets an allowance for contributing to keeping the home clean and tidy. So important to teach them at a young age. Thanks for sharing-Great video!

    Having commission work is really great for kids. I got the idea from Dave Ramsey and it’s really great to implement as they get older. And the Give Save and spend jars help as well. :) thanks for sharing!

    We do a little bit of both. We don’t pay allowance for typical chores like cleaning their room, cleaning bathrooms, helping tidy up or clear dinner etc. Those are just things they are responsible for because they are members of this family and live here. But we do pay for additional chores each week that they do on top of their “regular” chores - but these are also chores they have to do and are not optional. But it’s helpful to us because they then have their own spending money for things they want.

    I completely agree that allowance is not necessary for younger kids. I think first, they need to learn that helping is just part of being in the “family unit.” However, my kids are now 12 & 14 & they’ve recently come to me & asked if they can basically do everything (bathrooms, kitchen, vacuuming, mopping, etc.) and get paid weekly. Being a single mom & working part time as a nurse & homeschooling.....yeah, I was good with that! I pay them $10 a week and I basically have to do nothing but deep cleaning. It’s working out great so far. They want things like $120 shoes & PS4 games, etc., which I’m not just going to run out & buy, ya know? Anyway, that’s how we roll & it’s pretty nice 😊

    Yes, totally agree on not paying them for contributing to our home! I have actually contemplated calling them "contributions" instead of "chores". I love how you keep it simple yet so much is getting done. QUESTION: Do your kids keep their same jobs for a certain amount of time and then switch?

    This gave me so many great ideas for chores for my oldest son! It also made me think having more kiddos may not be so bad because the more you have the more chores you can assign when they're older. LOL

    I have to say, I love this! Your reasoning for not giving allowance is right on point. I feel the exact way. "You live here, and we all play a part in keeping our home clean and comfortable." And my older children that still live with us, pay bills. That's their contribution. And consistency is a must!! Thanks for sharing!!!

    Great video! I also like to buddy up kids sometimes. When my 14 year old does laundry my 1st grader will help her put clothes away. Also I like to use chores (the kind you might pay to have done) for discipline when appropriate.

    Great to hear your system. We have 7, 5, 3, and 1yr olds so the chore thing is still pretty simple. I struggle to get them to do much beyond the basic chores in a reasonable time frame, but maybe I just need to add them and see what happens, lol.

    Question: while I agree with you that kids should not be paid to carry out their responsibilities (my boys don’t get paid for chores either!), how can we teach them about responsibility with money, saving, etc.? This is the only thing that makes me question if my stance on this is right or not. Should we be giving them a dollar or two a week, not in return for their chores, but just because, so they can learn how to handle money? Or how else can we go about that?

  • @delightfullyfeasting8351
    @delightfullyfeasting8351 5 років тому +3

    I totally agree! You live here, you contribute. End of story.
    We do pay commission, but it is for daily chores beyond what is required of them for being a part of our family. If they choose not to do it, they earn nothing. They don't get a choice to not do the chores that are theirs because they live here. Paying commission allows us to teach money management, which I don't want them to learn by being thrown into the fire of adulthood. So, after they do their basic contributions to our family and clean up after themselves then they can choose to do their commission chores. When they're paid commission weekly, they have to separate it into envelopes for spending, saving, tithing/giving, and future.

    • @GraceandGrit
      @GraceandGrit  5 років тому

      Delightfully Feasting so important to teach that!

      @@GraceandGrit it's my attempt at "middle ground" between allowance and none, but it definitely isn't perfect. Sometimes they still think they should get paid for doing what I ask. Um, no, you don't pay the bills. 😂

    I love the idea of simple, but I always seem to over complicate things. I have an eye for details and perfection. In some areas this is good, but a lot of the time its more of a struggle for me. The Lord is still working to help me shake the "all or nothing" "do is right or not at all" mentalities I have. I could agree more about " consistency is the key" to all successful things in life! Yet again another struggle I have. But we have a few things in place and I'm want my children to know what it really takes to manage a home instead of waiting until they move out and then feel overwhelmed with all the things that must be done in life. I feel the same way about my kids contributing to the work load of manage our home without getting paid! I do however give them a small sum of money each month for no reason, just because I love them and want them to learn some money management and the value of things. They split it into: save, give and spend. I don't expect them to buy things they need or things I already buy them. But oddly enough they sometimes do and say mom I just want to help out. One of my boys was even going to buy his own much with his christmas money. But of course I was like that so sweet honey, but mommy will buy your food! Thanks for sharing! I would love to see how you plan out or the system you have for your chores being as yours is probably way more simple than mine ;)
    ps: hip injury update. The Lord is using My nucca chiropractor to heal my body! It almost 2 years since the injury and my chiropractor took new x-ray of my hip and yay things are staying in place and I'm mostly pain free. So this morning I started a walk at home aerobics workout video that I use to do all the time loved. I made it through the whole video about 40 minutes. Thank you so much if you said even one prayer for my healing!! I'm so grateful for your thoughts and time. Your very encouraging and heartfelt! Sending you hug and love!

  • @unabellavita6541

    I used to pay kids for chores then they “expected” to be paid and wouldn’t do anything without being paid. I realized my mistake and revamped the way we did things. I have kids ranging from 20 to 2. We don’t pay for household chores. They can earn extra $ by doing additional chores such as cleaning or washing cars, raking leaves, planting flowers, mowing lawns etc.

  • @Peekabooplanning1
    @Peekabooplanning1 5 років тому +1

    We do things a little different but for different reasons. I don't pay my kids for doing stuff that they are responcible for like their rooms but other chores i pay them for as commission not so much allowance. If they dont do the work well they dont get paid. I just want to hekp them make the connection that you have to work hard to make money. I feel like the upcoming generations just expect their parents to provide everything for them and this can't be helpful when they get out on their own. I totally see you're side of it though so this is definitely not me telling you you're wrong. I look up yo you 10000% so wanted to make sure you didn't take it as a "bash". Like you said no way is the right way thats just what works for you. 😁❤

      This is exactly our approach as well. There have been a few times where they haven’t gotten paid bc they didn’t do a good job. We treat it just like a job, but I totally see the other side of it too. I think kids doing chores whether for money or not is always a good idea. 👍🏻😊

    Umm, you know you are my sister from another mister 😘 Honey, I live in a home with all menfolk. I have all boys and I roll the same way. My word, I literally busted out laughing because that toothpaste situation is real. I mean to tell you , I asked my mother in love about this situation and she told me it was real way back then too. She said, she couldn’t for the life of her get her head around it and I told her that her 46 year old son and all the grandsons have apparently inherited said issue. 🙆🏾‍♀️😂😂🤣. Whew, and that toilet , I have all boys. PERIOD and the END 🤦🏾‍♀️😂🤣 One day I told my husband whom I have been married to for 18 years and together 23 years that he loves me for real for real that he would do me the honor of holding sessions with the boys regarding this aiming situation. Aiming class 101. On the roster 🤦🏾‍♀️😂🙆🏾‍♀️🤣🤣 Thank you and Amen and Jesus Wept 🤣🤣😂😘
