Vintage Swiss Army Full Service - Marlboro Adventure Team

  • One of my very own watches purchased way back in 1993. Ancient. This was the coolest Swiss Army watch in the market when it first came out. It's tough, resilient and can be relied on. I've dunk this in a bath and it came out unscathed or should I say dry considering the crown isn't a screw-down type and the case back is just a friction fit snap on.
    The movement hasn't seen the light of day for 27 years or close to three decades and as a result, the oils have dried and noticeably the date wheel won't fully click squarely on the date window. I have to tap the crystal to get it flush in the middle. That said, it was time to give it a full service - disassembly, clean, lubricate and reassemble. So, if you're ready, join me in this journey.
    This video covers:
    - Disassembling the whole watch
    - Removing the circuit block
    - Taking apart all wheel trains
    - Including removal of the step rotor
    - Reassembly from start to finish
    - Oiling the winding stem
    - Working on the Keyless Work
    - Installing all train of wheels
    - Testing the midnight date change
    - Re-casing the watch

    I'm wearing one just like that with the silver bezel I purchased while I was in the Navy back in 1993. This watch has traveled countless miles, been on my wrist through the best and worst of times. It has something that can't be purchased, a soul.

    What type of engineer minds ever design something like this? The milling operations, the intricate gears, a true modern marvel

    I’m going to put a ETA 2892-A2 in mine, 1996, battery mechanism stopped working, does the glass just pop out the top? Thinking of installing a sapphire domed crystal

    Great video. Very informative and interesting. I have a watch like this and was searching for information on it when I found this video. What type of crystal is this and what is best to use to polish it?

    • @artoftinker3713
      @artoftinker3713  4 місяці тому

      Thanks for taking the time to watch the video. I’d say the crystal would be mineral glass or perhaps Sapphire but without the anti-reflective coating. If polishing, probably best to use wet sandpaper from rough to ultra-fine grit.
      I haven’t tried polishing glass as I tend to just replace it with an aftermarket crystal. That could be a viable option for you.
      Thanks again. 🙏🏼

    I have the same model, but dial says "Victorinox Swiss Army" and the back is screw on. Improved over time...bought in about 2015 new.

      Yours probably have deeper water resistance rating than this snap back watch. That's good.

    how can i get you to repair my watch/ it is the same one in the demo. i have tried to get it fixed here in my home town and they say it is too old, and cannot be repaired? i think they told me it was the movement, not the battery, and they said they didn't think Swiss army had the parts????

      Better to replace the whole movement rather than trying to fix it or even giving it a full service. Where’s home town?

    Great video! Quick question, is the battery model SR726SW? Do you know if the SR726W an equivalent or are they different models? Thanks for this video.

      Thank you for watching. They're the same model except SW is for low drain watches (e.g. time only) whilst W is for high drain (e.g. backlit watches, alarm, stopwatch, etc). They're interchangeable. SW may last slightly longer with low-drain watches than W though but you can use either one.

      I actually don't know the model. It has Swiss Army at the back and I've noticed there are some similar watches with the Marloboro theme. I think it's the same thing but the latter is a tie-in promo.

    Great job. What is the number for this movement? I bought one of these watches and there was dried acids inside so I need to replace the movement.

      Hi Miguel. It's an ISA 309 Movement. You'd see them on sale sometimes on fleabay or any other online markets.

      @@artoftinker3713 hello again, I began the tear down of my Marlboro adventure team watch and I stumble on a weird situation; the dial does not have feet. There no spot marks or shearing marks. Once I dropped it from the case onto the cushion, the dial became free and spun around the movement. Have you seen this?

    • @artoftinker3713
      @artoftinker3713  Рік тому

      That is weird indeed. What was keeping the dial in place then? The feet’s not stuck in the hole? Nah, haven’t seen or heard that before.

    • @MiguelBricaBrac
      @MiguelBricaBrac Рік тому

      @@artoftinker3713 you are not going to believe this, but the hour hand. It was pressed all the way down and looks like it rubbed the face of the dial. Also, there was no dial washer between the cannon pinion and the bottom of the dial. Very strange. I am going to dab some contact cement and see if it sticks. I had a repair budget of $20.00 bucks and I already blew that on the replacement movement, and I don’t want to spend money on stick on feet dots.
