    Great video captain. I just got my boat and I have to invest in 3 or 4 rods and reels. They don’t come cheap. What would you say is more effective trolling or slow pitch jigging? What set up would you buy first? Thanks. Love your videos you keep it real.

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Honestly, it's a personal endeavor. When investing in your gear, you have to be honest with yourself and think of what you are more than likely going to be inclined to do. A solid slow pitch setup or trolling setup can run about 3 or 4 hundred... That's good gear, not top of the line, but not bottom of the barrel. I can't say what I'd go for... I think one of each... If that's a choice. Sometimes the conditions out there aren't good for jigging, but they are for trolling..... other times, nothing is biting on the troll. I wish I had a more decisive answer for you. Thanks again. Good luck in your search, and don't make hasty decisions. Tight lines & take care ;)

      Hi Mickey thanks for watching and always being. Yes sir, it was good fun out on the water that day.... the kings were biting, I had Avi with me... what more could I ask for? I got lucky he just chaffed the leader and didn't cut it... both the kings scraped up the leader.... but those 4 hooks take a lot of the wind out of their sail quickly. Avi says "Hello Mickey". Hope all is going smoothly with the move, and everyone is well in the family. Take care :)

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a good question. So, in my experiences, there are 2 fish that make an odd run, and seem to run upwards when hooked jigging. Great video, Lets say my presentation is vertical and staying there. Is that a good indication that the jig im using is the proper weight ? I should'nt need to go heavier if its staying vertical right ?

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. Yes, if you've got a pretty straight vertical presentation, then you're more than likely using the right style jig and the right weight. Granted there's usually wind and current, so don't be surprised if it's tricky to get it perfect, I've always got a little telescoping going on. Hope this helps. Tight lines & take care ;)

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  Рік тому +1

      It can look confusing, but trust me it's all winding on the pull...u wind pretty much right before you pull just as the jig bottoms out... no u don't wanna wind on the fall, that's hi-speed vert jigging, totally different.

I have more luck with Blue and pink with silver color 200 vertical jiggs, probably the glow ones are more at night o early mornings

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому +1

      Thanks a million for watching and sharing. Yes, I have been doing SPJ for years... I've been out in over a 1000 ft.... a good depth range though, in Florida is the 800 ft range, going for golden tilefish, snowy grouper, even catch nice size rosies. At 500 I also go for blue tilefish. I do a lot with the SPJ... If I'm in a school of dolphin, I'll drop it way down, to see if there's a wahoo or maybe a big bull willing to eat. I too find the pinks and blues effective. I got the black one as a limited time offer and it worked great... has a bunch of teeth marks in it now (battle scars). Thanks again for watching and supporting the channel. Tight lines && take care ;)

      Thanks a million for watching and asking a great question. The rod I use is a 6 foot 6 inch Star Rod from the Plasma II series. It has acid wrapped (spiral wrapped) guides, great for slow jigging. It's rated for jig weights from 150 to 400 grams, which is a good spread.

    I believe slow pitch will soon be outlawed when scientists and game wardens catch on to the fact that this method is very effective for every kind of fish and that the fish is not just hooked in the mouth but is almost always foul hooked by all the other hooks on the jig.
    Just look at the new regulations with circle hooks and decent tools to understand how concerned they are with survivability.
    At the very least they will require that said jigs only present one hook, not multiple ones.
    Until then..... let's catch them all!

    • @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing
      @SouthFloridaSaltwaterFishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks a million for watching and sharing your perspective. I've kept up with FWC's new regs on the hooks pertaining to composition, style and the 28 degree latitude line. I agree with you, eventually, everything will change... for now we should embrace the gift we have been given. Then again, I'm definitely an adapt and overcome type of angler. Getting into slow jigging years ago, when it was not yet a world wide trend is my example of persevering in the face of adversity. Thanks again for your support of the channel.
