    I've been using my Cabela's media separator but I've been eyeballing that Frankford. I didn't know about the mesh filters so that helps make my mind up. I think I'll get one next time I'm at Scheel's.

    I’m still using a large fine mesh strainer for mine and drying on the towel. I may have to give this one a try.👍🇺🇸

    I use the same wet tumbler, with SS pins, Dawn soap, a pinch of Lemi Shine & water. I tumble the deprimed brass for an hour, then dump the contents into two strainers (coarse, then fine) set on top of a 5 gal bucket. The brass collects on the coarse strainer, the SS pins collect on the fine strainer & the water goes into the bucket. I then put the brass onto food dryer trays & the fine mesh screen (& pins) on top, then dry for an hour. I pick up the SS pins with a big magnet (Franklin Arsenal) & store in a glass jar.

    That's nicer than using dry media - dust goes everywhere with the dry media. Handloading makes slingin' the boolots more fun!

    You'll want to add the water before you start turning the Seperator. Not only does it help separate the pins, but the water helps to wash the cleaning solution off the brass. When it comes to cartridge brass, you'll want to rinse the brass several time in clean water, it helps to stop the brass from get water spots. In a separate wash, I used the same solution with the stainless pins to wash some old dirty coins that I had dug up. Came out looking like new coins.

    I have used one of these for a long while now. You will want to get a Frankford Arsenal magnet for picking up the steel pins. It makes it a lot easier.

    Well now this is a interesting video and there are many ways to get shiny brass. I personally prefer dry tumbling with corn media. My brass comes out looking brand new. I do have a hornaday ultra Sonic cleaner that I do use for some things and it works very well.

    I've been using the RCBS media separator like that for the past few years with water, I don't recall if it was supposed to be a wet/dry separator but that's how it turned out. I used to use the corn cob/walnut media but switched to the tumbler and pins and putting water in the bottom half and spinning for a couple minutes gets most of the pins out of my brass. You'll be happy with this going forward.

    Before emptying into separator get strainer attachment for tumbler and pour out gently into a 5 gallon bucket with a paint strainer. Then go to media separator and fill half water and spin half way back and forth in water. Then switch to top cover and rinse shells. Buy cheap dehydrator and dry for about an hour. Also get a magnet. Pins can be rinsed while in paint strainer and then stored in tumbler without drying.

    I gave up on using tumbling media. Try hot water a squirt of Dawn dish soap and a half teaspoon of lemi shine. Give a quick rinse when done and the brass comes out super clean and shiny. No pins to separate or replace no pins stuck in your brass

  • @leroynelson4717
    @leroynelson4717 9 днів тому

    Adding water to the separator makes getting the pins out/off of clean brass- I use mine mostly for dry tumbling I have a strainer that I use for wet tumbling because I rinse the soap off several times before I dry them

  • @edwardh1591
    @edwardh1591 9 днів тому

    Be careful with the stainless media. It will take your brass on the neck and round the brass inside the neck of the case. If you don’t correct it you won’t get proper neck tension. I have been through this problem. Personally I have went ultrasonic and after they are dry I tumble them in walnut media.

    Hey Adam, what works best for me. Is a hold the Tumblr container under the sink and flush it out with clean water so there’s not as much suds when I go to separate the media then I use the corner to pour out the extra water and put on a towel and shake, then go into my dehydrator for the drying of the brass

  • @ragnarrloobrok70
    @ragnarrloobrok70 9 днів тому

    The water is for rinsing as you spin, not for aiding in separation.

    Im personally not a fan of wet tumbling. I think it does the job a little too good. I like to have a little carbon left in the necks of my brass after tumbling. Helps prevent cold welding if the ammo sits awhile before shooting and makes my seating pressures more consistent too.

      The projectiles were old and tarnished so he shined them up. Steel pins did a number on the tips though and not sure what submerging them in liquid for 2hrs will do to them in the long run.

    Can you tumble rocks in their?

    • @johncmitchell4941
      @johncmitchell4941 9 днів тому

      Not for long that I know of and JMHO with a HDPE canister. (that is surely an affordable replacement part) But rocks tumble for weeks vs hours for brass, and the media is so much different (coarse, abrasive) in the various stages vs the pins. That said, for fifteen years I've been using a Thumler, which is made for rocks. More expensive, but I only paid once and it runs like new. btw, no tumbler will ever be quiet so be careful what you wish for. lol Cheers.
