- Attention all shotgun slug shooters and slug reloaders - Our struggles using jerry rigged home cast slugs and trap wads in lieu of factory proprietary slug/wad systems are over. Just as Sputnik slapped us in the technological face, the availability of Russian slug molds plus the wad systems has changed the entire slug shooting landscape all for the better. I had pretty good results using Federal target load wads with the petals trimmed off with these Zveroboy slugs.
Fortunecookie45LC and Taofledermaus and Thors Axe have all done great work on showing us these Russian slugs and their accuracy. I just hope we can continue to get these.
FC45 I watched your videos to get me through my cherry. Thank you for helping me bust it. I believe I've found me one of those magic barrels on a Churchill 612 Tactical. I'm getting amazing results with AA hulls and AA wads using Svarog pellet slugs and 18 gr of 572. I've got me one of those Italian slug molds on the way and I've been whoring those special wads. No spelling error there.
This is basically what I wanted to do about 5 years ago. I'm glad someone made it happen. I've had a couple chats with Dave about it to. It's such great news.
I’ve learned a lot from your channel and I too have tried to surpass factory ammo by reloading my own slugs. I’ve only really ever succeeded with a 16 GA Remington 870. I find ordinary Winchester 1oz 2 3/4 “ shells work assume out of Mt J C Higgins 12GA pump because I use a rifled chock tube. I get consistent 2” groups at 50 yards. My Savage 220 Bolt Acton with a full rifled barrel likes Remington Premiere ACCU tips! And they’re very expensive even on sale!
Would like to see how the "Paradox" version works. Looks like it has a "3-in-1" kit where you can do simple slugs, slugs using the proprietary wads, and one that uses "standard" wads that you simply either glue in or run a screw through to attach. Interesting concept. might order just because. Can't wait to see what the manufacturer response is, though it'll likely be YEARS before anything catches on.

I love those Russian molds I have one my self is the Lyman style slug and it came with 4 pins next year I will order 3 more I love slugs but now I love them even more 😄👍

glockerbob - Yes, great news indeed...The range tests have been done and the 3 and 5 shot groups at 25 and 50 yards are very impressive - so good that I bought my Russian hydrant mold immediately...But before othes buy it, we need to have supplies of the special tail wads that make these slugs so accurate. Thor's Axe777 and Loads of Bacon are negotiating for wads as we speak. Stay tuned as I want those wads for sure..!! The Russian frangible slugs can be screwed onto BPI Guilandi wads so they don't need the special wads - plus, the frangible slugs also have been tested and they shoot gangbusters also. Could a magic barrel be made from a normal barrel by changing the forcing cone to a gentler design? Longer forcing cone. (Brownell's)
Yeah man. I found the mold on ebay from a dude from Canada. The issue was, I could find the wads, but they wanted me to order in bulk , like 20,000pc. The dude with the mold wouldn't even send me a couple wads with the mold. My plan was to send a mold to china and have them made for us in the US. anyways.. The dude from ebay is klopisklop.
I'm fine with the russian guys making their money back on the molds. But we need a domestic supplier of the wads. It's a huge investment to start up plastic molding though, so we need to be a big market before downrange or claybusters will make the wads.

Which slug would you think best for hunting... the Sputnik or the Fire Hydrant? And what are these called when you look for the molds from the Russian Federation, is Paragon a name for one of these? Just want to make sure the slug mold is compatible with casting slugs that fit the right wads.

Andrew MacPhee - Forgot to mention that Jeff at Taofledermaus got fine accuracy and performance with those Russian slugs as well when he shot the ones that were sent to him. So both he and I learned to stay with the program for those good results - I've got my order in with The Reloaders Network for another 500 of those wads as we speak along with one of the Paradox molds... I have a question I think you have a mec 12 gauge press ? I have a mec grabber . When I reload at the top of the case after reloading there is at the top a small berm or a rim on the top of the shell. Hope you know what I mean. How do you stop this?
I wonder if your lyman style pellet slugs would have done better with a cardboard disc under it for support?

The Russian slugs outshot both at 25 and 50 yards. The reload and test videos are posted on Patreon and are exclusive to Patreon. But the news is too good to not share with all of you on YT. ElNino BigDog - They are available on EBay - under Russian Shotgun Slug Molds. However, the wads are not readily orderable like the molds are. The wads are as important as the slugs.
