A Succesful Check Dam in Early Development/ سد في وادي الخانق مشروع البيضاء

- This is a check dam in Wadi Al Khaniq that the Al Baydha team built in the summer of 2013. In January 2014, there was a flood through this wadi. The check dam caught this silt, which after a week has grass growing. This is a way to slow down flash floods, and as the dam silts up, create areas that can act as sponges to passively catch and store water in the mountains, and provides areas for tree planting. Repeated throughout the wadis, this is a complete system for reforesting desert mountains and converting flash floods to seasonal streams. Speaking is Hajaj Warid Al Jahdli, one of the project's deputies.
All efforts to check water runoff to replenish acqifers and prevent topsoil eroision are to be applauded. well done.
What’s happened since this video was made?
I have watched what you have done with the site using Google Earth. It is very impressive. Please keep us all updated regularly about the progress being made.
He's excited for the soil they caught in the dam. They know what they're doing, and I think they understand it relatively well.
these videos move me deeply - thank you!
Lots of respect for the people building this by hand, in the heat of summer, with razor sharp rocks. Good to see results so soon. I gather you finally got some rains. Can't wait to see your updates on the swale system!
looking forward to more vids.
Thank you so much for sharing your passion with us. This is truly amazing, I hope that you will continue to update us with your progress.
Thanks Again & Best Regards,
Jon
Al Baydha project location: 21°03'05.44" N 39°54'10.87" E - it is extremely hard to find without these exact coordinates.
You can follow the site's progress using Google Earth, and witness the transformation of what was a wasteland.
Good job Sir, there are some scientist who said that the arid Arab peninsula will witness a dramatic change because of the global warming which will lead to more flash flood type of rains and I have been watching that closely for the last 3 years. after watching the news reports and the massive rains and even snow fall in north Saudi Arabia I became bias toward this theory, but at the same time i am a bit sad to see all this water goes to the sewage or evaporates in the air and that is why i feel joy when I see your work.
Snow fall is common in northern Saudi Arabia
But rain and floodings yeah those are unusual
