I originally wanted this video to be "if you've failed your NEW YEARS goals" but then I realised this can literally apply to any goal. this video was largely inspired by the concept from ATOMIC HABITS: set SYSTEMS not GOALS. i've just adapted it to: Set an IDENTITY which RESULTS in systems and then leads you to the goal. this is rly versatile so here are a couple different phrases to show how versatile it is:
    Versions of yourself:
"what would a version of me who's 10x more smarter do?"
"what would a version of me who's 10x more disciplined do?"
"what would a version of me who's 10x more understanding do?"
    General archetypes:
    "what would an athlete do?"
"what would a healthy person do?"
"what would a guy with a 6 pack do?"
    (The best one) Specific people/rolemodels:
    "what would David Goggins do?"
    "what would Jesus do?"
    "what would my dad do?"
you can comment ur own ones but yeah ok bye

I started reading atomic habits a while back now, and I’ve noticed that your videos are basically rephrasing the contents of the book, and that is something good, not bad, since it is such a good book but some people simply don’t have access to it, your videos however are free, easily digestible and understandable, good job ruff.

yeah everything in self improvement comes from books. even the whole concept of "delaying gratification" can just be traced back to the bible and other religious books - you do good things on earth, you go to heaven. thats the definition of delaying gratification. you do something hard for a reward at the end. so nothing is new but your perspective and personal experiences are new and i think thats what people wanna know. but yeah man i love teaching things ive learnt. plus the best way to learn is to teach what you learned to other people so

One insight I've had is that habit trackers really aren't for maintaining your habits, because like Ruff said they really can't do that. The thing they can be useful for is showing you exactly what you've been doing for these habits, and exposing that.

5:30 That is also said in the Atomic Habits book: the quote is something like that: "motion allows us to feel like we're making progress without running the risk of failure". So instead of actually doing the thing you're supposed to do, watching videos makes you feel like you're doing something productive (that's being in motion), but you're actually just planning on doing it. Strategizing isn't taking action.

Ruff , You actually made me change. Lemme start from beginning I am a spoiled rich kid I would say that it's true but in my 12 year old I used money everyday , I was frequently on my phone and as in my heart I know I am doing is bad. Then i decided to watch many youtubers of self improvement but they never really worked i decided change many things but nope , as in today I am 16 years old I started watching yours video and understanding and learning many new things. Which made me finally change for example, Now i can wake up in the morning and I pray and workout and directly do my things , I have kinda stopped using my phone more. I have now good sleep , good routine. Thank you Ruff. I have decided keep it going this way and change myself more. I wish you a good luck on your journey too.

I've been watching your video for a while now.... its been months .... I came across you right before my HSC and now I'm 2 days away from the most important exam of my life.... the entrance exam of my medschool, super nervous and scared to face the reality(Its 3:34 am here) Not because I didn't study (It's relentlessly the opposite I studied really hard, 10 hours everyday of last 3 months) While I listen to you, I go through all the comments and it feels so great to realize I'm not alone. There are so many people around, struggling just like me. But I like this fact that we are all trying to be the better version of ourselves.

You know, i have the exact same thoughts of " what would _______ do ? " whenever i feel like i dont . But honestly, what you said about the list of what we need to do to get to our goals is right there and how we fail to act on them is a 100 percent true. I am currently in a state where i feel burntout and my discipline is hanging on a cliff. But, i wont give up though, cause i know that is what seperates the losers from the winners. To anyone else, who is also struggling, you got this! Dont give up and focus on the journey towards your goal( like stated in the video) . And thank you ruff.

I'm kind of glad that this video was posted recently. I got my maths mock result the day this video was posted, and since then I couldn't go back on track on what I'm supposed to do because I got a lower grade than what I was expecting myself to get. Especially when I've been practicing on how to get better at the subject ever since august, and it's just kind of broke my hopes into moving from foundation maths to higher, and it just felt like I made no progress. I guess it's too late now since my gcses are in 3 months. Until now I still think about it, but watching this video made me feel slightly better.
it's not the end of the world, really, since I just moved in to the uk a year ago and had to cram in of the lessons in each subject from scratch, so I understand that I'm not fully used to this system. I'm still studying tho, even if I'm very much demotivated.

You right. I can plan all I want and be persuaded by every video about optimization as possible, but without any action there is no "being." Just thinking. Planning is for sure good, but I'm super hesitant because of so many physically straining mishaps that are causing friction and because of my fear of failure. But I gotta at least go and try it, test it out and see what works and doesn't. As well as seeing if it is that "purpose" that i like waking up to be that type of person, or if maybe I wanna do something different. I won't know until I try it for a bit.

You are the the only self-improvement channel that stands out from the rest. The rest of them all give generic advice, they create videos with crazy editing, a misleading thumbnail and really no clear way to achieve anything that has been talked about. You, on the other hand, create simple videos, talk on topics which are relatable to many people to a great extent, no clickbait and no wasting time with weird segments and you give a clear path of action to get one going. I think what sets you apart from the other youtubers of the like is that (i think) you like helping people through these videos and unlike other youtubers you motivate the viewers to take action just after the video is over. I really appreciate your videos and they have really helped me so, thank you.

"What would xyz(best person at it) would do"
You have a meaningful goal, you gotta take action on it, yi either need motivation or discipline to take action, but you also forget the right things you gotta do and fall off track, you also have an identity of someone who don't does the actions, you develop an identity through repeated good action. But it's harder to take action with identity of a non action taker so you start to think what would the best identity do in your situation, this way you start to move towards the identity of, of "being" the action taker, so it gets easier for you to take action, and you also keep reminding yourself of the actions you gotta take and don't fall off track, the path becomes crystal clear and your bitch brain is less likely to get the best of you.
Is this what you are trying to say man

What would one genius IITian do? would be the phrase I'll be using now. I am going to have an academic comeback. My parents had enough of patience. It's no time to watch youtube. ( I've college entrance exam in 2 days and then again in 2 months. I'll create a big difference between the results of these exams.)

What I know is ,. He would certainly not doubt himself. He would have studied daily for 2-5years. He would have completed his syllabus before August and 6-12months for revision and testing. He would have a great confidence because he knows everything that he studied. ..... Etc

Hey Ruff, its been a very difficult time, I'm going through my first breakup, my girlfriend broke up with me last night. It was a relationship of three long years, I'm feeling like i lost alllll of my progress, i lost everything, i lost myself, I'm feeling that intense pain in my heart, i really dont know how to get back on track, i know I'll probably spend weeks and months crying over the same person. I just want your words on how i should focus on myself and get back on self improvement instead of chasing someone. I need your HELP.
