Still can't believe my mom suggested me to go to conversion therapy when I first came out to her. This week, 6 years later, I found a note in her phone where she had wrote a message for a conversion therapist. In that message she's wrote that I "hate men" and my "problem" from 6 years ago still didn't seem to be fixed. Also had mentioned that she hated when I hugged her cuz she felt uncomfortable knowing I'm not straight...
This is the reaction of my mom who's much more open minded than my dad and relatives. If they found out they'd probably just murder me. I've been crying the whole week. I thought my mom loved and supported me, but this is no love. Ca't wait to move to a new country and never return to this toxic, dangerous environment ever again.

This is why I will always find it ridiculous when people try to get "straight pride" or say that viewed as being gay is no longer any different from being straight. Straight people have never been forced to have therapy for being straight, or been kicked out of their home for being straight, or are murdered in the streets for being straight. They don't need to worry about their rights being taken away at the whim of a politician. Being straight isn't a bad thing, but it's not something that requires you to fight, sometimes constantly, for in order to live.

You know what sucks is having parents who pretend to care about gay people and even have gay friends but when it comes to you their child they suddenly are complete hypocrites and do not support it. My mother has gay friends but I wasn't allowed to have gay friends because she was scared they would "corrupt" me and make me gay because that's how that works. Maybe her own lesbian friends where making her question her sexuality and she was projecting that on me but I always hated how she was so outspoken about the gay community but then turned around and told me to watch out for them.

Somehow my mother is the complete opposite. She's a Jehova's witness, so is under the impression that everyone will be judged by him in the end. She says she can accept me and my sister being gay because we're her children and she can put in a good word for us but we'll still be judged, but she doesn't approve of any other people in the LGBT+ community. Honestly I feel lucky though because normally the families of Jehova witnesses who have gay people MUST cut them out of their lives completely or risk being shunned and outcast from their group.

My mom became somewhat of a religious zealot towards the end of her life. She died when I was 19. So she would hug my brother and I and say "thank God My babies are not gay". She also didn't want same sex marriage to be legalized and this was back around 2011-2013. She would tell me that "homosexuals" were going to go to hell. I would disagree with her, I believed even back then that if people were not hurting anyone then let them live their own lives. She wouldn't agree with me so I just kinda let her believe what she wanted. I loved my mom and I would rather have had her religiously obsessed than an aggressive and neglectful drunk but sometimes I wonder if she stuck around longer maybe she could have grown and changed instead of being so hateful I guess...

The therapist thing happened to me. When I came out to my parents said they "supported me", but then very suddenly sent me to a therapist that was very, let's say, off. She did not let me talk about ANYTHING besides my sexual orientation and how I might be 'making the wrong decision' (as if it was a choice). Her office was in her house, and didn't look much like an office. After a few appointments, my friend and I got weirded out, and looked up the "therapist" my parents had sent me to. No results on any actual doctors, but there WAS an ad for a local conversion therapist under the "Doctors" name. It's 4 years later and I'm 19 now, but I don't think I'll ever forgive them for that. They literally sent me to a random person's house who wasn't even liscened. What.

This topic hit close to home. I'm gay and had my own issues with my sexuality, but was overall accepted by my family. My cousin, who is the same age as me and also gay, wasn't as lucky. His father and my grandfather, who are both extremely religious, made him go to conversion therapy. (My grandfather wanted me to go too, but I didn't accept.) My cousin was at a low point in his life because his mother had just passed away and he was confused and wanted to feel loved. He has been in conversion therapy on and off for years. He never listens to me and no matter what I say to him or my grandfather, nothing changes. This summer he went to another country for his 'therapy'. They plan to get him married soon so he "gets fixed". We are both 19 atm. I feel so bad for him and it hurts me so much to see him so hurt but there's nothing I can do to help, that I haven't done. I've talked to all my family about it, some people don't wanna overstep and others think what he's doing is right. I can only watch from a distance and hope he can make it out and be his own, authentic self and find true love for who he is.

She told me she wishes I was "normal" and that she was disgusted how I was going to live my life. i can’t imagine being scared to be yourself because you might not be accepted. that sounds so scary and as a straight person i will never have to come out as straight or be scared that i would be judged or even hurt for being myself. this is so sad that conversion therapy still exists. everyone should be allowed to express themselves and be themselves.
edit: WELP TURNS OUT IM NOT STRAIGHT- i’m actually pansexual 🥰 i started to explore a little more about myself and realized that i did in fact feel attraction towards people regardless of gender you know so i’m a little scared because my family is religious and although my parents would never do this to me (my dads a pastor and so is his dad) but i don’t think i would ever tell my grandparents because i’m scared they wouldn’t accept me for who i am ☹️ but yeah now i do sorta relate to people being scared to be themselves and come out but so far everyone i’ve told has been very accepting of me so i’m very grateful for that 🥰
