    Woohoo! Made one today. Once I rewatched the hood segment in piece by piece bits, it all came together beautifully! :) And since I'm horrible at binding, I just did a no sew finish for the bottom edge. Fits my grand daughter perfectly. Now to whip up a couple more for Christmas presents! Thanks for the tutorial!

    Love u video!! I made my first one and I actually pinned the 2 circle pieces together, sew on the hood and went back and tucked in the front raw edges and it came out fine. U do have to work a little bit smoothing out where the hood meets the raw edges for a smoother look. Using the cd as a marker for the neckline is a perfect size for kids!!

    I think I’ll make mine a little different but once my taxes come through I’m so ready to make a few maybe more as birthday gifts. But definitely two for my daughter(she goes to grandmas some weekends and it would be easier to have two) and one for my niece!

      It's on my blog, but you can also just trace a hood that currently fits your child. Less printing. :)

      just take a hooded sweat shirt of hers and trace the hood to make a pattern. the neck hole will be the same as the sweatshirt. that is what I did.

    I live in Wisconsin. Would you have your kids wear just this? Is it just for when they are in the car, or would you put it on them inside and have them wear it on the way to the car?

    • @doityourselfdanielle
      @doityourselfdanielle  5 років тому

      It's for back and forth to car :) Mine take it off as soon as the car warms up. I wouldn't necessarily want them playing in snow in this in 10F weather. It does the trick for shorter periods outside. Running into grocery store. If it gets really cold there, I bet you could make these thicker.

    Can you re shoot the part where you put the inner hood and lining right sides together? It is shot off camera, and THAT IS WHERE O AM LOST

    Did I miss the pattern/size of the hood Danielle?

  • @mumudolce
    @mumudolce 8 років тому

    Sorry to be annoying! When you sew the inner and outer portions of the hood together, do you leave a seam allowance at the bottom to be able to sew it to the inner and outer poncho layers?

  • @mumudolce
    @mumudolce 8 років тому

    Hi!! Thanks for sharing! Do you think it would work if you sewed the two circle portions right-sides together and then turned it inside-out before adding the hood?

    • @doityourselfdanielle
      @doityourselfdanielle  8 років тому +1

      That would leave raw edges (from the hood) which won't look nice. HOWEVER... you CAN put your interior fabric inside the exterior fabric, then sandwich the hood pieces between. Then you can just fold over the edges on both the interior/exterior fabrics and sew around to attach the hood. That's how I did it for my first poncho and I found it difficult. I should've tried it on one of the ponchos this time just to see which I thought was easier.
      Or you COULD do it like you said and finish the edges on your hood before hand. Then sew your hood on. Hm... good thought there. Might be a bit easier too!

    • @mumudolce
      @mumudolce 8 років тому +1

      DIYDanielle do you mean finish off the bottom of the hood and attach it to the inside of the neck hole?

    • @doityourselfdanielle
      @doityourselfdanielle  8 років тому

      Finish off the bottom of the hood, then just sew it onto the finished edges of the neck hole.
      OR alternatively, sandwich the hood between the unfinished neckhole, fold over the edges around the neck hole so they look hemmed and top stitch. It's a bit unwieldy to do like that though.

    Can you use ribbon instead of bias tape?

    • @doityourselfdanielle
      @doityourselfdanielle  6 років тому

      You could probably fold a wider ribbon around the bottom instead of bias tape. Just make sure the ribbon can be laundered.

  • @pghphyl

    you are doing it the hard way; b-4 you sew hood on, put both circles right sides together; sew the bottom all around;,turn to right side; also u are making neck opening way to big; it should be closed. not so big that kid can climb through. go watch how others are doing it; maybe that will help. hope this makes it easier for you
