just did this with a '05 neon sxt. take out the battery and the top coolant hose for clearance, if my fat hands can do this-then any one can. a magnet tied to fishing string helps with dropped bolts. when replacing the sensor, start with the top left hole/bolt, it's the easiest one to reach and will hold the part in place when attaching the remaining 3. finger tight first, use a toothbrush or a rag to clean the threads of the bolt before reinsertion. took me about an hour and a half, gl.
Two tips: Tie one end of a thread around the head of the screw and the other end around a heavy spare socket. Lay the socket in the battery tray. When you accidentally drop the screw, you'll thank me. When the screw is in, just snap the thread off. Secondly, put in the lower left screw first, holding the sensor off the engine so you can see the screw go into the hole. Letting the sensor rotate down clockwise will give you a good view. When that screw has caught well, put in the upper left screw, again holding the sensor away from the engine so you can see the screw going into the hole. Then tighten those two screws most of the way, but not tight. Now your two screws on the right should line up pretty well. I've done this operation four times on two Neons, dropped the screws plenty of times and struggled with hole alignment, and this process works for me.
Yes the other video I seen they said it was easy and it looked easy but now my car sounds like it's drowning under a crate frate or something taking it back today...
Your video heped me see the part well. It seems to be much easier with a small 1/4 in ratchet and extensions to get most of the bolts. With the battery out, its not too bad. A ratchet wrench is ideal for a couple of em.
Thanks!! First time doing a job myself. You were right about this being a pain. Man that top right screw 😤. I was so over it but had to complete the job of course and now my neon is good to go.
My advice is to make sure you buy the Mopar camshaft sensor. I went around and around with camshaft sensor problems trying to use the much cheaper knockoffs. After installing the Mopar camshaft sensor, no more hard starts, no more random engine quits, and no more gimp mode (60 mph max).
@@itsfiascoyo0387 Not sure how knock-off manufacturers get specs for something like a camshaft position sensor. Does Mopar willingly publish the specs ? (why would they ?), or do the knock-off guys have to reverse engineer them ? I haven't had any problems since I put in the Mopar one 5+ years ago. (2005 Dodge Neon SXT 258,000+)
Important point at 5:50: The connector has TWO latches. The first time I did that I was only pressing the main latch and no matter how hard I pulled, the connector wouldn't disengage. Hit the side latch, too, and it pops right off with no effort.
Oh no I dropped a bolt.... well gusse I got to junk it and get a new one lol. Jk thanks for the vid Just needed to know where the sensor is and you showed me thanks
hello and izone..smiles was your car doing the same thing mine was doing just before yours started acting up...ok going around 65 miles on the highway and all of a sudden my car started to stutter and shake and acted like it was out of gas or something.. it really scared me... well slowed down car was fine and when i stopped at the store engine light went off... well it stayed off a few days car seemed fine and again it happened agin . took it to auto zone they hooked machine too it said sensor maybe but i went ahead jput new spark plugs on it and wires,, well yesterday it did it again so we went and got the same part you put on your car in this videol enjoyed your video.. thanks .. but i was wondering if your neon was shaking and spitting and acting strange too?
sorry about all the miss spelled words ,,,,but yes i went to auto zone got the exact same part as you did...but it was like my car was surging and had bad gas but that was not the case...auto zone said to check all my wires might have one loose or something but nothing was loose so that why we changed all spark plugs and wires and a few days later same thing was happening,,, thanks i hope to hear from you...
Did you ever find out exactly what was going on with your car cuz what you just wrote is exactly what I'm going through right now and I'm about to change the sensor out camshaft position sensor
@@amigoldner5159 2004 models have self diagnosis, so you act like you are going to turn the ignition on three times and it will give you the code of what is wrong with the vehicle, where your mileage is.
I purchase my 2nd one to install on the car I thought the 1st brand new sensor was defected and car still didn’t turn on I had to install the original one back on to get the car running does the sensor have to get programmed?
Jerardo Aguirre No it shouldn’t have to be programmed. Once you replace it and connect the battery terminals, it should turn on normally. Could it be something else maybe?
Do you know what size bolt it uses, i lost one and dont wanna try to take others off to match because it was so hard to get them in. Also leaks, could that be becausae of missing top bolt
Skye Fuego the sensor can’t leak, all the sensor does is controls your fuel injection and monitors your pistons and valves. If your finding oil on top of your transmission it could be anything. I suggest looking at the oil, seeing what color it is and go from there.
Skye Fuego not sure how your finances are, but you can take it to a firestone shop and have them run a UV dye test to see where the leak is coming from. I think it’s $20 and when they give you the diagnosis you can either replace it yourself or have the “shop” do it. :/
I just purchased a dodge neon sxt 2005 about 2 months ago, The motor service lights up on and off, and when it re lights up it does not more the 2000 rpm, what should I do? should I replace the the camshaft sensor?
Aldo Rodriguez if your car sputters over 2000 RPM, you might have to change out the spark plug wires and coils. Possibly the fuel injectors need cleaning. What does the code say on your check engine light??
Aldo Rodriguez yeah, I would recommend fixing that sensor first. Once your replace it drive it around for about 10-15 minutes. If the light comes back on, then it’s going to be something else related to the camshaft. Good luck bud!!
Did you replace the cam magnet as well? If so, can you make a video for that? I am trying to fix that part, and there's videos on here for an SRT, but not an SXT.
So you only disconnected the battery so the check engine light would reset? Because I'm not disconnecting all of that stuff just to change this sensor 😡
iamphil84 I only removed the battery to have more space on taking out the sensor itself. It’s in a pretty tight spot as it is with the hoses and filter around it. Plus I wanted to get you a clear shot of the sensor in the video so you know where the location is at.

Just did this repair on my '04...piece of cake. Can't believe the old sensor only lasted 299,800 miles. :-)
steve bramblett wow that’s amazing to have that part last that long!!

I do recomend to use an extensible magnet together with the bolt extractor yo avoid that to happen
Thank you so much for the video, Sir a question, can the sensor make the car quench when you selet grea??
Justin Gajere can you give me an example??

Bro the second sensor next to camshaft that u disconnected is that the upper 02 sensor. If it is pls let me know thank u.
had to replace 2 so far on my 05, and the EVAP purge solenoid too..
Did you have a slow start issue? Like where the engine needs to crank more than 5 times before it fires?
Same here, on my ‘05.
Nice car. Same year and color as mine.
is the sensor that’s under it that you plugged back in call the crank shaft sensor bc i think that is the one that I need ..? T.I.A.
Thank you
You’re welcome. Glad it helped
Anyone know what he means by the "black lube for the screws/bolts?" I'm not familiar.
Assembly Grease? Or something similar?
It’s just grease. Prevents rust on the bolts and makes it easier to remove if you need to in the future. They sell little packets at AutoZone.
How do you rewire the harness. Is it 1st slot to 1st slot. 2nd to 2nd. 3rd to 3rd. Because the colors are not the same
I’m not sure about re-Wiring the harness, I did not have to do that. You might need to further research that.

hey bud, I think it's either a 10mm or 11mm size bolt.
it shouldn't be leaking either, sense it's just removing a sensor. I didn't see any kind of liquid substance when I removed my part.
the bolts should be 5/16 mm size. but other ppl have told me 10mm or 11mm.
+itsfiascoyo0387 did not install correctly and when i would drive, it would leak oil
6mm X 4 bolts.
Did your call stall- hard start after you installed it?
Luis Garcia
No it didn’t, car ran fine after the installation. Before the installation yes it did stall a lot.
Can the sensor leak oil? I keep finding oil collecting on top of the transmission.
Skye Fuego the sensor can’t leak, all the sensor does is controls your fuel injection and monitors your pistons and valves. If your finding oil on top of your transmission it could be anything. I suggest looking at the oil, seeing what color it is and go from there.
itsfiascoyo0387 it's brownish. So I know it's motor oil. It's driving me crazy I can't find the source.
Skye Fuego not sure how your finances are, but you can take it to a firestone shop and have them run a UV dye test to see where the leak is coming from. I think it’s $20 and when they give you the diagnosis you can either replace it yourself or have the “shop” do it. :/
When I removed it there's a little oil on it like you mentioned. Is it coming from the magnet? Is that normal?
Yes it’s from the magnet

Did the sensor fix the 2000rpm issue ?
My neon keeps cutting off when I put it into gear. Is this the problem
TxSkoolBoi rubenj
No, that sounds like your torque converter or could be your neutral safety switch
Yes, my 2005 SXT was doing that until I finally resolved the camshaft sensor problem.
Drop it in where?
Did you replace the cam magnet as well? If so, can you make a video for that? I am trying to fix that part, and there's videos on here for an SRT, but not an SXT.
It's a T27 drive.
+Miguel Vasquez I don't understand...
Ally Hembree Google 'T27 drive', it's a drive bit to unscrew the magnet. ;)
Do you happen to know what sensor or what fixes p code 0073. 03 dodge neon se
If you tyoe in the code in google it should tell you
Bottom left bolt first!!!
Holy fuck
I have neon 1999 model with this problem.
its a 10
Cross threaded bolts on the head
Show how to undo the clips
Which clips??

the car is flooding
Too long & slow in talking.
