Some folks R lucky to have a friend that can fix anything at all. They tell me that here all the time it's just what they tell me after I hand em their bill is the catch.
Is it me, or could Elkskins pass as a Hobbit? I think he’s become a significant UA-cam character. I can’t start a single piece of power equipment now without chanting “Fire it up, Fire it up”! Arrrgh.
Elkskins I am a huge fan of yours too my friend,I just recently subbed, wish I lived closer.Maybe I’ll make the trip from Woodstock Ontario,Canada, some day,be a pleasure to meet you.
I tried and tried to rebuild the Onan fuel pump using the cheap Chinese rebuild kit. I finally gave up and bypassed the fuel pump just as Taryl demonstrates in this video using the B & S vacuum pump. I had to make a gasket using a thick piece of gasket material because the old gasket was very thin and it leaked gas. I also replaced the gas line from the tank and added new plugs and a condenser. It is unbelievable how well the fuel pump bypass worked...the Sears SS16 Onan starts and runs just great.. Taryl Saved my day!
I just did this on a friend's Case 446. Worked out great. Unfortunately, this was AFTER I had installed a cheap kit to replace the original vacuum pump (like you said it worked for a while-ONE hour). Thank you so much. The Briggs pump works so well!
That is called a scrub nurse and she is just as important as the doctor is I say "she" because my old lady is one and she makes one hell of a paycheck 😂
I’ve also used them on Kohler K series and Command engines to save money over buying the mechanical pumps. They are also great when the fuel tank is lower than the carb and gravity won’t work. Thanks for sharing!
I did your fuel pump bypass. Works well. Although it was not the fuel pump. it was a cheep Chineese condenser. I put a SBC ~Blue Streak on and no more loss of power at high speed. I have a 18/6 BG/MS with a DD11 Carb
received my order from ya yesterday, coffee cup is premium, z bender is outstanding tool, and the gel lubewhat can I really say about it, excellent without the normal mess with most lubes, just aim and spray. I thank you very much for the stickers you threw in, just haven't decided where to put them yet. keep up the good work so we can keep learning double k from western pa
I did tried this repair and fuel sprays out of the air bleeder hole in the inlet cover! Should I knock out check valves? I’m not sure what to try next?
Great video Taryn I would appreciate a video on how to fix the surging on one of those onans I have a p216 onan on a wheel horse 1996 model 416 that just keeps surging any help would be appreciated thanks Ron
Coool. Great. Ok, now how about a tecumseh OH120 with a LMH CARB fuel pump ? Can you do the same without removing the carb, or is it just easier to remove the whole thing, buy a fitting and intake gasket, etc...?
Taryl What did you do with the diaphram breather hole? Its shooting fuel out! There is a tiny hole on that plate where that giant circle piece is on my model. DD15A Carb Think im gonna block her up with something or maybe a little tack weld over it xD
not sure what's wrong with mine but after a replacement check valve plate it pumped fine for a few seconds and then stopped, opening it up revealed the rubber flaps under the reeds had somehow blown out or expanded and were hanging up.
I just cut out the diaphragm, tightened and sealed the gaskets with leather gaskets and gasket maker and plugged the "in" outlet with a bolt and the other end became my pulse pump feed
Thanks Jerry- I was trying to put my finger on it but just couldn't quite do it. You got it though. I was looking at Elkskins asking myself..."Is that a little Hitler mustache...does he have teeth...is it just the lighting?"
Elkskins,You are lucky to have friends like these, and they are lucky to have you.
So true Mr. David very well said.

Pat Sajak has Vanna and now - Taryl has Elk Skins. The resemblance is remarkable.

Taryl, you can go to Ebay and get a rebuilt Kit. Smiling!
I am about to do this fix on my 1973 Sears SS/16 Twin tomorrow, thank you Taryl! I can't wait to FIRE IT UP FIRE IT UP FIRE IT UP!

Thought about it but you have a small vent in the cover plate won’t thar leak? Or do you use Taryl putty there?
It’s always nice to learn something new

Can't stop an Onan. Badass engines.
2:51 Elk Skins making sure the steering wheel is in right position for this critical step.
Nice to see you keeping the onan engine running taryl
Elk Skins is the Ed McMahon of you tube. He should be laughing more in the background like Ed McMahon did...
That’s funny lol.
More like Larry 'Bud' Melman even looks like him.
I just had a flash back of Jonny wearing his Turbin on his head reading those tarot cards to Ed...
Nice love them old machines !
Thanks for the tip guys 😊
I love the sound of an onan!
I frigging love Elkskins!!!

Elkskins look like a Sergeant Schultz if anyone knows what show that's from lol
"if anyone knows what show that's from" I know nothing!
What did you plug that pulse line into? Intake manifold vacuum hole?
crankcase port then to p port on fuel pump
Nice retrofit, Taryl!
We all Luv you Taryl! Great video Brotha!
Can this be done to the Briggs opposed twins?
Pulse? Is that hose connected to a vacuum port on the intake that moves a diaphram on the briggs pump?
Was wondering the same thing
Yes. It would have operated the pump built into the carb. I expect that it connected to the block piece that he didn't use.
wil that work with the briggs oposed twin engines? I hate those carb mounted vac pumps
Good simple solution to buying that expensive factory pump. Thanks Taryl!
Elk Skin's look like Buddy Hackett !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOL !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Great tip! And an excellent assistant! Just needs to practice the wooooooo🤣
Elkskin is my fav now cheer from Canada Bro !!
Woodstock Ontario,loves Elkskins,WOOOOOOOOO.
I did something similar but I used a electric fuel pump on my case 446 tractor it runs great. No problems. It starts really easy.
Dang that was a nice midweek snack..
Is the 18 horse 5400 series any good do they have plastic cam gears in them I'm looking at a craftsman mower at lowes
Is that a check valve on the fuel line and where can I get one? I have drain back causing my onan to crank way longer than that thing did.
we have the same carburetor and it is spitting fuel , any idea why ? and how to fix it
thank you
I did tried this repair and fuel sprays out of the air bleeder hole in the inlet cover! Should I knock out check valves? I’m not sure what to try next?
I have the same issue. How did you resolve???
Same. Trying to seal with moto seal
Cool idea! Elkskins is such a hoot!
Is the adjustment the same for the brass float--1/8", or is it different?

Great video Taryl, those china carbs are garbage forsure lol good fix!
That was a damn good Sears mower. I believe Roper had one as well. Not sure who actually made it.
what was the pulse line hooked too?
7:51 Elk Skins eye roll. Saying to himself "What a hick".
True 👍
Elkskins reminds me or Marty Allen. Remember Taryl, shop rags are useful!
What a great day
Nice we need more onan videos
No fuel line clamps or are you going to add them after??
Is that Buddy Hacket with Taryl ?
What, no hose clamps? Where did the pulse hose go to the engine? Great video, thanks for that.
Any crank case pressure above the oil line.
recall the HIGHWATER pants Elkskins was sporting in some older video. Straight out of Beverly Hillbillies
where does the PULSE hose originate? I thought crankcase had negative pressure.
Thank you!!
Really good video and funny 😆
Fire it up, fire it up ! Gotta love it lol
I like to use mikuni fuel pumps. They can be rebuilt and the kits are readily available.
those plastic fuel pumps are made by mikuni. kohlers use them too
Great video
Watch that circumcision tool...almost got his finger.
Elk Skins standing there with both eyes looking out the same hole. Em ole doobies got him walleye’d.
I think fire it up is what you guys do off camera ?
Put them gaskets on any other way they leak Thanks Taryl
Nice job 👍
We call those loppers the Bobbits. 😳
No hose clamps?
Next video: how to rebuild a fire damaged Onan engine.

Hey I did this conversion and the pump is flooding the carburetor
Elkskins! 🤘
Your pokes fitting on your engine magically showed up huh
Taryl. you are the best!! Can't stand a dirty Car-bit-trator
Good stuff crazy man....
Is that Buddy Hacket
Tried this only problem is on my plate where the spring would sit is a tiny pin hole that squirt's as it pumps
I'm having the same issue ... How did you resolve???
@@jmk1086 get a tube of seal all just a small dab will do
@@robwood8201 thanks for the response!!
YOU CAN DO THE SAME WITH THE OLD STYLE BRIGGS 14 AND UP OPPOSED TWINS ALSO HAVE DONE IT A COUPLE TIMES MYSELF. CHEAPER THAN BUYING A NEW CARB.
Thanks, I was going to ask that question. Mine is a '77 L head.
Watch them fingers......whoooooooo !!!

Hose cutting tool: Something you see in a Mafia flick where they try and get information out of a tied up rival family member.
I wish I had this engine in my sears so stead of the Tecumseh 16hp OHV.

I have 3 and we can work out a swap. Texas
Elk Skins is funny AF !
You should have mounted the fuel pump to the mufkin , whattttt !!!!!!!! lol
Yeah then it would be a fire breathing mower!!!
Or to the side of the battery!
@@Shinyusedtoy101 yep lmao
Should also get a new Model Replacement Brass Float for her.
As the old Ones ALWAYS fail. well on 95% of the onan bf ms engines i have worked on.
Elk skins
You should use a better fuel filter since its got a fuel pump, that style is for gravity feed.
White is for pump. Gravity one is red.
Hose clamps?
Tighten it up then, fire it up ,fire it up ,fire it up 👀😁🖖🖖✌✌✌
I just cut out the diaphragm, tightened and sealed the gaskets with leather gaskets and gasket maker and plugged the "in" outlet with a bolt and the other end became my pulse pump feed
Kind of a weak hoot there, Elkskins. Let's see if you can fix that - LOL
Elskins looks like Oliver Hardy lol
Thanks Jerry- I was trying to put my finger on it but just couldn't quite do it. You got it though.
I was looking at Elkskins asking myself..."Is that a little Hitler mustache...does he have teeth...is it just the lighting?"
Will Ronnie be selling the scrap fuel line?
So I did a similar repair last week and it didn’t work! Hooked up the “in”, hooked up the “out”, and peed in the “P”.
Really like them onan motors, but every one I get is always wore out.
Elkskins mind them cutters.. if you cut off taryl finger he will not be able to point at the camera and say there's your dinner
Does Onan make their own engines?
Yea. Back in the day of course. But they were bought out by Cummins!! And yes Cummins as in diesel.
