    Thank you so much for breaking it down for me. You made it so easy to understand. I'm about to start working with a company to polish up my brand and get me to the next phase of my business which is the website, social media, etc. This company can hook me up with a local boutique who has several stores in the VA area where I live. Now I know what to expect with the wholesale aspect of it. Thanks again!!!

    Another subject. Been doing candles for a while. It seems like everything has gone back to square one. The wax went from a 50# box to a 45# box. It seems when they did that the formula changed. One supplier did say that the wax formula changed as stated by the manufacturer. Scent throw seems down, no matter when I add the FO, or max it out it doesn't seem to mix well. The wax is soy 464, never a problem until recently.
    Eco wicks, always a home run. Either suppliers are not paying attention to what is going into their bags or the wicks have changed. Sometimes one burns better than the other. Some people think there may be two wick sizes in one bag. Maybe so? They should burn evenly.

    liability insurance should be very important to anyone selling candles. also look at labor costs when you need to hire people. make sure your margins are high enough when doing the work yourself so you can pay for labor AND have a margin as an owner.

    Most hospitality runs on wafer thin margins. After all costs, the profit margin is typically 3 to 5%.

    When first launching your candle business online, how many candles do you suggest I keep in stock for each scent? I plan to have four to five scents.

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Рік тому +4

      That's perfect. I always recommend 4-6 so you can have at least one scent in each category. Earthy, bakery, floral, citrus, etc.

    Hi Standley,
    Thank you for this informative video. I'm using soy wax 464. I would like to try pro blend 600. What do you think about this wax? I can't find the calculator that you menchen in this video. Can you send me the link? Thank you!

    When starting out how many candles should I have on hand? I use coconut soy which takes 4 weeks to cure. I'm not sure how I'm supposed to sell them and have people wait for them to cure? How do you handle this

  • @ashleylafleur6832

    I’m interested in wholesale; however, it doesn’t seem very profitable. Is $3.50 per candle profit normal? That seems very low and maybe not worth the time. Still weighing this and would love your insights. Thank you!

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Рік тому

      It depends on the candle and the amounts you're selling. You can absolutely raise those prices up for wholesale though.

    I just don't understand how any one gets 22 dollars out of this size candle . I make them I live in Tennessee and there is no way I could get that here . I sale mine for 11.99 on my website and I have a hard time at that price . I just don't get it??

    • @truefoodsociety312

      You need to help customers find your website.
      Price is about perception/branding.
      Is a $12 no name Tennessee candle on par with a $60 candle from a Hollywood celebrity?
      Maybe -you just need to be able to justify the price.

    Thanks, that was a big help. I'm getting ready to sell at a comic con and am going to make the candles in that exact same jar. I was wondering what a good price for them should be since I'm making the labels really fun and character specific and not my brand name, which will be there but very very small...like Antman small 🙂

    Jeff, I’m looking at all the little costs that can add up like shipping material, the online store, processing fees, etc. I really want to make my own labels which have a black background. Do you have any suggestions which kind of printer would be best for that? I have watched so many vids on this (yours too of course) but since the label is primarily black, I want to save on ink. Thank you!

      Honestly any laser is going to be great. I used a $99 black and white for years and it was awesome. I have a larger color printer now and it is awesome.

      I disagree, there is still so much opportunity. It’s a down economy and it’s just harder to make sales to anyone.

    I am on Etsy. From what I see, and I will continue until it does, the candle business is nothing more than a dead star. $25 for scented wax, 8 Oz? Hmmphh

    • @StandleyHandcrafted
      @StandleyHandcrafted  Рік тому +5

      No sales on Etsy? I removed my stuff from there a long time ago. It's too touch to try and get your products to the front page which is where most people stop these days.
