Thanks for the clear and well paced video. A safety reminder is that the starting capacitor can be charged up and waiting to give you a good zapp. It may not kill you but the shock can jerk your body to hit something you'd rather not be hitting. You're wearing rubber gloves, so you're good.

The voice over added to the video is great.

Very nice, Bob. I'm looking forward to the pump motor rebuild too. Emerson is an old, well-known electric motor that, if memory serves, were on all of Sears' belt driven (and maybe direct drive) table saws.

The rebuild is on the way. I have the motor torn down and the parts on the way. The hardest part was getting the bearings off, but I got it done. Emerson motors look like they have been replaced by US Motors Corp. but from what I heard all the newer high efficiency motors preform well and no brands are really duds.

I noticed that the mentioned bolt left handed thread aka reverse threads was not installed during reassembling?

Can you take a pool pump motor and convert it to regular electrical motor use like on a band saw or wood lathe?

Nice work Bob . I take it the old motor used a lot of juice off the mains.
    Cheers Pete.

The old motor was getting loud and running hot. I'm in the process of replacing the motor bearings on the old one, just waiting on parts.

Shaft seal only needs to be hand tight. By using a strap wrench you stand a good chance of cracking the ceramic on the seal.

Yep, and the ceramic seal should be spotless clean without any lube or grease.

I see you rebuilt the pool pump itself. From the title I thought you were rebuilding the pool pump motor. Nice work though.

Don't you check shaft for wear?

Don't use sealant on the rubber seal plate side, use lube. Don't use lube on the shaft seal itself at all. I do this for a living.

    Salt water to generate chlorine???????????????????

    • @doublewide6
      @doublewide6  7 років тому +2

Yes, John the water is 2500ppm salt (ocean water is 35,000ppm salt) you can't tell it is salt water when swimming. The chlorine generator uses electricity to convert the salt water to chlorine. Once the chlorine is used up in the pool it returns back into salt water.

I thought you were taking apart the motor. Your title is misleading

Maybe rename this video to "How To Replace and Install A Pool Pump Motor". You did not rebuild anything, you repaced.

You shouldn't be making videos like this if you don't know the difference between a pump and a motor.
