Crawfish, Crayfish, Yabbies, or whatever you call them, taste amazing. Hence, we continue scaling the Crawfish production here on our farm.
Our simple aquaculture setup is cheap to install & costs almost nothing to maintain.
Crawfish eat a wide range of inexpensive food items or can even be sourced for free.
Whether you want to grow a few at home for eating or get into a farming Crawfish business on a larger scale, we have plenty of dedicated videos about those topics in the playlist below.

Na Lure is a good guy, we're very happy with him & his work 👍
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand I love seeing all the fun projects and wonderful progress being made there. So much to be proud of and helping the local economy. Good work!
Awesome!, great to see the farm growing!. For a farm girl, Toon sure has a good set of claws!...haha.
Lol.
I just took my momma from her babies last night. I think she had more babies than her tail could hold. Momma wasnt real happy about me taking her babies but I didnt want her eating them. She did great for her 1st babies!
Excellent news that Chris. Amazing how the females can hold so many young 👍
Way to go guys❤️
I started from the bottom of this playlist. Two more videos and will catch up with this project of yours. Just got our first ever cray babies three days back and am so excited. Saw your video about Biochar sometime back and got hooked in the playlist. But I never ever thought we would get to grow a cray😁 Thank you, hope our journey will go well❤️
Much love from Kerala, India🙏
Awesome Kerala! Thank you so much.
I've been wondering for some time where you were going to put the bàby juvenile yabbies since the last video ànd before they go to the grow out pond's
You will be able to supply àll the posh restaurant's in Thailand soon
Brilliant Leigh
Shame about planned restaurant area but the world wide illness has made us all change our plans
Well done mate 👍 for adapting
You and Toon will be the yabbie king's of Thailand
Thanks Nigel. Still plenty of space for farmstayers to have dinner in the covered outside area 👍
Hey Toon and Leigh, great video. Love those little crayfish because they grow up to be big fat crayfish.
Lol
Got a bucket of big ones for the pot tonight 😋😋😋
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand, Enjoy it my friend's. I'll be thinking of you while I'm eating my soup.
Lol
You Brits are crafty people))
Crayfty🤣🤣🤣
We've had a load of rain. The water-level rose in my crayfish tanks. A neighbour found one of my pregnant females 50 meters along the road heading for freedom. I've dropped the water level considerably. They can sure climb. :)
Eat that one first.... she's obviously a trouble-maker 😂
:)
Looks like a great job !!! However the karaoke dance floor appears to be shrinking 🙈🙄 I bet it’s lovely sitting there eating breakfast, watching your dinner grow 😬 top marks ✅
Still plenty of room for a Foxtrot 😉
Used to catch monster signal crayfish growing up in California. Almost no eats them out there and they would grow big because of it. Was funny that one river had the big signal crayfish and another river next to it had red swamp crayfish but they never mixed.
We used to catch those big signals back in the UK. It was mainly only the European population that used to catch them. Don't know why because they tasted great on the BBQ.
Seeing your new setup has reminded me of a grow out tank idea I've had but haven't had the chance to test out. To use the grow out tanks as an Aquaponics setup with a sheet of styrofoam with holes growing a fast growing crop . IE lettuce ,spinach or 1 or 2 of the many fast growing leaf veggies. I am thinking with enough plants it would feed the babies as well as myself.
Growing lettuce like that is something that I'm considering too. It's way too hot to grow them successfully outside without installing shading. It's got to be worth a go 👍👍👍
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand Very true. I noticed the tanks are already shaded, so I think it would be good there. It also wouldn't need to cover the entire area, just an end so you can still have easy access to the crayfish by moving it to the opposite end. Also the extra shade would help keep the water cooler and the crayfish more at ease.
Where is the location bro?
Looking good guys.. did you put a water proof on these tanks? if not did you soak the tanks .? As i would think like fish they do not like fresh cement.
I used to live in the SE United Snakes. Crayfish are common and are in a lot of seafood recipes, especially around New Orleans. Tasty but require some small measure of skill to eat.
Agreed, Toon has to feed me like a needy baby when crayfish is on the menu 😂
Congratulations 👏on 10k+ joob joob!😎👍
Cheers Mick, it took us an age...I blame Toon's potty mouth 😂
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand I'm loving the vlogs but have to 🤫🤫🤫👌👍😎

@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand no news is good news Mr Leigh...😄
You sounded like my mum then 😂😂😂
Keep an eye on your new tanks’ PH levels because fresh render/concrete can be too caustic for animals until the lye has had chance to all leach out.
Just a thought because I’ve seen this sort of problems with other startups.
Chok dee
Thank you TD. We rinse then let our new tanks stand full with sliced up banana plants for about a week. It was a tip from a viewer who worked in the aquarium trade that put is onto it. Seems to work a treat 👍👍👍
Hey new subscriber here enjoying the content. I was watching one of your videos exploring your different ponds. I was wondering how your ponds were constructed? I'd like to build a similar pond without using a liner.
The outside grow-out pond was dig out using an excavator. We have a complete series on our lake construction which gives a good insight into pond construction here in Thailand DIGGING A FISHING LAKE (Step by Step) ua-cam.com/video/6V7BrqM7QJM/v-deo.html
do you fill it with water to remove all the chemicals in the concrete before putting crayfish?
would say get an ultraviolet flashlight and you can see and kill the scorpions at night... But you may never want to go outside at night again if you do that lol
Lol
put some cover in it so the frog won't get inside
Hi sir i am.planning to have those here un Ilocos Sur, i have a questuin regarding the water for the pond, my farm is located near a river and a part of it connects to the sea so the water sometimes its salty but not as salty as a sea water especially at summer time. Is it ok for crayfish with a littlebit salty?
Our Red Claw crayfish can handle low salt levels in their water. We'd suggest just putting a few crayfish in as a trial for a month & see how they get on.
Best of luck, we'd be very interested to hear how you get on if you do this as we get many questions about raising crayfish.
What temperature is needed for incubation?
what is the standard size for growning pond ? thanks
Ramping up now guys, how much a kilo at the market?
We only ever see the babies for sale occasionally....Max 1 inch in length for 20tbh each.
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand Ok, but what can you get for eating size? I am about to do an aquaponics system with 20 600mm round food grade pvc yabbie ponds. Had some news from the worm supplier, they can not help with export, bugger, still working on it.
How many kg do you estimate that you can produce in one of those ponds?
bingo
Look at you fast out of the blocks today 💪
Subscribe to your channel. Hope to learn more on how to grow crayfish on our backyard
That's great to hear.... welcome aboard 🤗
yooo in Thailand have signal crayfish?
and why you cultive redclaw?
magani sya sa market
Nice job! Did you coat the render with anything to stop it contaminating the water?
Thanks Chris. We just let our tanks stand full for a week with chopped up banana plants added. A viewer put us onto this tip a few years back....works a treat 👍👍👍
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand That's really useful to know! My friend Pie list all her frogs because they didn't seal the cement. Shame they didnt know about the banana trick. Its something I'll be making use of eventually! Cheers Leigh
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand Awesome tip, thanks! Looked into it and it seems like pineapple skins and banana plants can be used to add acidity to counter the lime in cement. Notice any issues with newly cured tanks still being high pH or it rising later?
That's a real bugger mate. It's hard enough to make a coin out here without that happening.
These 3 most recent tanks makes it 8 in total here on our farm. Relieved to say not a single issue to date 😉
Compost worms for feeding the crayfish?
do you all use a pump for your pond? I want to make a mini one
It's better if you have airstones running. We just run them during the day because we're on solar power here.
You can get away without airstones as long as the crayfish can climb out of the water. They like to do this at night or during rain.
If you stock them at a high density in deep water they can die from oxygen deficiency.
Hope this helps you 👍
@@ToonLeighporpeangfarmThailand So far i cut a 55 gal raiin barrel in half and let rainwater 1/4 fill it. Im using a solar pump for the daytime. But I may add more pipes and things at the bottom so the crawfish could climb to the top and catch air. I also have gold fish in the barrel to . So far they are surviving even though my weather got to 40 degrees. But its about to warm up. i noticed the crawfish were going nuts in the rain
No oxygen air pump for the young ones??
This time no oxygen pump was added. Since publishing this video we've purchased additional pumps to help eradicate biofilm.
so you are not putting some aerator anymore right?
At the moment we have airstones running on our main breeding tank. We're planning to have solar powered ones on every tank in the future.
How many crayfish in 1 pond?
How often you change the water of your tank?
About once a month we totally drain all the tanks. We just give them a quick wipe down then refill.
Do you put aeration on your cpncrete pond..
We only have airstones running on one of our breeding tanks.
nakakain ba sya
Do you use airpump for them?
We do on our main breeding tank but turn it off at night.
It's not an issue because the redclaws all climb out at night lol.
Black soldier fly lava?
Do you use an aerator?
We used to use airstones but they don't need it in our setup.
Why don't you lift the black tanks higher off the ground so the frogs can't get in
We put them on the ground to empty. All the tanks are usually raised over & above the large tank holding the brood stock.
Where you get your crawfish from?
It was a local chap who used to sell them. As far as we're aware, it's only us who sell them in our area these days.
Can live the crayfish without aerotor thank you...
What are they eating???
Algae for the first few weeks, then mainly aquatic plants/ roots & kitchen waste.
Tadpoles are vegetarian. They wont eat snails or crays
But they eat each other & dead frogs...well ours certainly do 😂
If they can fit it in their mouth, they will eat it. They do prefer algae, zooplankton, and greens. But they will eat meat if available and small enough.
@@redstone1999 but there is no way they can eat an armored cray. in fact, they crayfish would probably eat the tadpole.
@@CoolGobyFish Full sized crays would snack on tadpoles, frogs and snails. However, cray eggs, hatchlings or tiny crays fresh from molting/battle casualties, it is game on.
I have seen hungry tadpoles in a feeding frenzy on catfish fries. Quite the battle royal. Casualties on both sides.
