- A research project led to an innovation that set Desmond Chow on a path to farming. Since 2018, Desmond Chow has been innovating crawfish farming, from developing crawfish feed to developing the world’s first crawfish reproductive technology. His crawfish are free from diseases and environmental pollutants.
Today, he co-owns five crawfish farms across Asia, helping farmers to increase their crop yield. What is driving this Singaporean to innovate crawfish farming? Host Ming Tan finds out as he works as Desmond’s farmhand in his farm and hatchery in Cambodia.

I have such great respect for people like that farmer. Not only are they so intelligent and innovative with their work but theyre willing to share their techniques with others all over the world.
nice farm, yesterday bought 6 pcs of crayfish because i want to start a small farm and i hope it will become bigger like your farm. take care always and god bless🙏
Love this entrepeneur's scientific approach! Great show!
Thank you! 😊
@CrawfishSingapore can you ship live breeders to the United States?
Thank you for investing in Cambodia. Good luck to you sir.
Finally useful video in YT
The only sad thing here is employee stolen product and Gang relate are so sad, but I am glad and thanks Desmond Chow for keep the hope alive and keep the farm growing, last but not lease thank for keep the jobs and bring the skill for the Khmer people's, Thank you
We loved this video & can relate to so much of the covered content. BRILLIANT.
Whoa incredible technology and techniques
Watching from Riyadh City kingdom of saude arabia
happy to found this video and got some ideas.
I'm a Filipino and started to grow ARC for about 3months 😊
These crawfish are HUGE! 🤤😋
Yes, Cherax quadricarinatus is almost 2x the size of Procambarus Clarkii 🦞Yumz
@@CrawfishSingapore hi, how can we also get in touch to attend seminars of crawfish 🦞 in Cambodia?
Impressive, smart man.
Interesting, a modern and high technology farmer
Wow ...this is really good..... amazing 👍👍👍
drinking game, everytime desmond say 'exactly' take a shot! Wonderful entrepenuer!
The Bruce Lee quote in the end is perfect
"Low aim is the crime."
❤
Huge crawfish!
Very inspiring ❤
Good informative video, much appreciated 😊
Great video!
Very impressive 🤙🏽🤙🏽
This initiative not only generates great income for the farmer but also increases food yield per hectare of limited land we have in this world.
we could try mars?
@@juststfu6551the cost of transporting food from Mars back to earth would be insane and not worth it
@@juststfu6551let’s get comfortable getting rockets up first 😂
@@clamidiha Lmaaaaaaao hahahhahahaha
they also devastate local ecosystems when those crawfish get lose in their rivers...
That laugh 🤣🤣🤣
I believe you sir,thank you
Awesome and creative initiative, integrating multi cropping system with technology. I'm highly interested to explore and learn more regarding this. How can I contact you?
Cool
Cambodia has 400miles of coastline and the nearest Cambodia's island Koh Tang literally can be kayak to Singapore.
i'm from indonesia, and i'm interested in desmond's project in here, is there anyway to get information on it ?
Wondering if they share this technology and lessons learned with other Asian countries. My niece graduated from UP with a soil science degree and would love to get her involved in crawfish farming.
I’m from Malaysia n interested in this crawfish project ..how do I connect with Desmond ?
There's already a lot of crawfish farms in Malaysia, you can look for the local breeders. Since there's other breeders, it's good for you to select from their brood stock to introduce new genetic materials since you want to prevent in-breeding.
Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand are big producers of this Australian species.
wow... this is one amazing video content, i just recently learned about crawfish and seeing this video makes me really excited to learn more about this industry. Im just wondering is there a possibility to visit the farm of Desmund or if he conducts seminars or you know at least help people like me who are just staring up... Thank you.
Huge farm
cool , the one we ate in Lake Toba I think it is the same species, i am also surprised to learn that Wuhan also are breeding this, we eat a lot of smaller verson of crayfish here in China
Yes, our breed is Cherax Quadricarinatus. The common ones you see in China (red in colour) are called Procambarus Clarkii 🦞
Nice one, the Cherax Quadricarinatus (Queensland Yabby) is apparently found in the Northern Australian tropical
freshwaters, the "Clarkii" you mention is the famous Louisiana Crawfish, you wonder if the Cherax Quadricarinatus
could be grown & harvested in LOUISIANA, making a bigger harvest and bigger profit?..There is also the Blue Yabby
(Cherax Constructor) found in the colder Southern waters of Australia, plus the two biggest freshwater "crawfish" in
the World are found in Australia, the Tasmanian & also the Murray/Darling "Freshwater Crawfish" reaching 2-5 kilos,
these types of "crawfish" or "crayfish" are IDEAL FOR NORTH AMERICAN, SOUTH AMERICAN & EUROPEAN MARKETS,
as you can see, the "type" or "species" grown and harvested depends on "colder/cooler" or "hotter/warmer" climates.
@CrawfishSingapore how do you prevent the crawfishes from crawling out of the mud pond? Any chance we may import some of your best breeders to the Philippines?
what kind of feeds you fed in crawfish please help me i want to farm also like you here in philippines
Vietnam been on that multi farmin
I wonder where can I buy that pellet food? Im from Philippines, and crawfish farming is new in our country
Where can we buy their feeding formula? For Europe?
I wanna hang out with these guys
What do you feed the catfish and crayfish
are they able to escape from your pond?
do they share how they keep the mortality rate down? i would like to have information on this and learn how to increase the quality of crayfish.
Im starting my crawfish farm here in the philippines..can i ask watch the best feed for them?
Dry Cat food or dogfood works well
Crawfishes eat almost anything. However, we have specialised formulated feed for our crawfishes 🦞
Interesting that it's profitable to grow crawfish AND fish in the same pond. Normally you'd figure one of the two would be more profitable (probably the crawfish) and you'd just grow one. But probably the limiting factor on the craw fish is the bottom surface and raising the density just leads to more losses fighting, whereas the plants still leave enough ammonia-handling capacity to raise some fish.
10:13 esp. for a landlocked country like Cambodia....when did Cambodia become a landlocked country? It's not an island but it has a coast.
I am interested too. How to connect and start one in our country Philippines?
meron po ako nito.. davao area
Do anyones know this farm name?
Ate a whole bunch of them In Louisiana.
I highly doubt that
I think they would be more efficient if they integrated more of the American approached to craw fish farming with the baskets and crawfish boat. Nothing like farmers introducing another evasive species to a new habitat
American grow Padi early in season, and harvest them. After harvest then only they harvest the crayfish before winter set in which yield less than what this entrepreneur doing here in Cambodia which harvest all year along.
@@qelasta I’m referring to the type of equipment used harvest the crawfish. The American approached is way more efficient
Totally different variety than us. It’s not a one approach fits all.
@@TomBTerrific different variety but same species. Same technique would work here.
Host only used subtitle for the farmer even though they have the same accent. lol. Reminds me of that Iraq Insurgent Subtitles comedy skit.
"Singapore Crawfish" - based in Cambodia ?
Those are a whole lot bigger than the ones we get in the USA.
Has anyone tried to farm those Australian big butt honker crawfish in the USA? Would the USFWS allow them to? When Cajun boiled, do they taste the same as our apparently scrawny-sized American crawdads?
Yabbies in Australia.
I would up and move there if they offered me a job lmao
Can we get address & contact details of the farm so we can visit.
I will also like these information, thanks in advance.
I am also interested in the science behind the farms.
Where are the crops he said he grows?
He said hefu hefu
bro we actually have 440km of coastline
How can grow crawfishes next to paddy field contaminated with insecticides?
Cambodia is not landlocked
You think they would know the simple geography.... But I guess that's the answer you get when you are naturally daft
Only laos is..
Correct, I was going to say the same thing. Cambodia has access to the sea. Laos is landlocked.
Who Cares about that dirty country
Absolutely 💯 and not to mention crayfish ain't sea species but they are fresh water species.
Cambodia is not a landlocked country.
Crawfish are not difficult to breed
Yes, crawfishes are hardy and high demand 🦞
Exactly. He makes it sound so hard but Australian Red Claws are one of the easiest to breed and grow. Whats harder is having the land area to mass produce them. Gotta thank mommy and daddy for that
Some if these comments... 🤦🏾♀️
Why does America have to push their ways on other peoples outside of America...
I Appreciate and Respect the technique these farmers use in this video...
At some point with this technology we have today, one day it will be no longer, so it is important to keep up with older traditions of manual labor... I feel more respect, care, and understanding is given to whatever we do manually which is very humbling...
I am hoping I misunderstood what you meant in your comment...
i am 65 year old American MAN, i HATE modern farming practices used im America! and i have a DEGREE IN AGRICULTURE!!!! i hate the GMO crops, large confinement feed lots etc... some people say i was born 200 years too late.
i prefer the old ways of doing things!
@@steffybael1245 🙌🏽Yes!🙌🏽
Arsenic loaded craws
Maybe he’s not sure weather he’s in Cambodia 🇰🇭 or Laos 🇱🇦 ? 🤷🏽♂️. Or maybe Cambodia don’t have any sea creatures at there port All been fished out 😂 no regulation
Landlocked country like Cambodia?! Where did he study geography?! China?!
Bro don’t know simple geography
Isn't these crawfish is full of parasites and can't be treated even cooked?😢
Our crawfishes are fed with our formulated feed. Also with our RAS system and patented technology, you can see that their bodies are clean 🦞😊
@@CrawfishSingapore thank you for the enlightenment. Keep up the good work.
Return Activated Sludge (RAS)? I think he's saying that he's using his own blend of bacteria cocktail.
And some farmers use liners when raring those crawfish in earthen wells, because mud and diseases, and also your local fisheries department might have some environmental protection laws.
More ethical breeders will choose and sort out their brood stock to be free of parasites so the farmers can buy clean and parasite free broods.
I think that the only problem if you had polluted water you have clean water shouldn't be a problem
Please don't grow them in Europe... we already have enough hyper competitive invasive species of these in our rivers and lakes...
u kidding??.... u need to be Malay to be a farmer (good farmer).. Chinese Sings, are good at typing...
How many times does farmer dude actually say actually? It’s actually an annoying verbal tic.
What's the point of your comment? Which is annoying to me
