Framing "you do not agree or feel okay with" as "are you still confused?" is very invalidating. It part of the bigger picture of framing women's issues as small and unimportant.

Robyn wasn't defending Christine. She is defending Kody and the lifestyle because it looked like Christine didn't have a choice to more or not. They couldn't have that truth be known.

It's been so long since I've seen the early episodes, and it's crazy to see how Robyn is already acting like she can "speak Kody" in this episode.
Her saying, "You gotta tell her why you think we should move, Kody." Like ugh, take several seats ma'am. You just came into this family like 5 minutes ago.

You are catching on to the Robyn/Kody dynamic. When I was watching the first 2 seasons as they came out the thing that always rubbed me the wrong way was the way that Robyn spoke as if she were the first wife and had been there forever. Like, she talks as if she is the only one who is intimate enough, and has a strong enough bond, and has authority, not just over Kody but over all of the wives! I remember watching this years ago and as a wife, getting really irritated by how she inserted herself, and wondering how the other wives could put up with it!! She's been there for a new york minute, but talks like she's the boss. Can't stand it!

1:05 I think sometimes people say "might" or "maybe" not because there is uncertainty about the facts (she knows they are moving) but because they are uncertain about expressing how they feel about those facts (she feels like even though she knows they have to move, her sadness about that won't be validated)

  • @lNoWayAroundItl

Christine simply says she got the phone for when the move. Kody saying
0:21 "Are you STILL confused on whether we're gonna move or not?", just shows me that the move is not a united decision. I mean they are moving to be closer to Robyn's family. Not escaping real persecution like suggested in the other episode.

Kody put his arm around Christine to strengthen his complete control over Christine, Meri & Janelle. He is talking to Christine & she looks intimidated & cowered by Kody. All Christine said was she bought her daughter her 1st phone so she can call friends. Nothing Christine said indicated she was not in agreement that the Brown family moving. Kody is the one on camera saying directly to Christine what you think we will not MOVE? Pure intimidation by Kody's ego & the family moved to Las Vegas was because Robyn had family there.
If kody was escaping Utah because the law was after the Browns that was a lie. There never was an investigation into Kody for cohabitation. It was made up drama for the reality TV show only.

Wives and their children absolutely can choose to live on their own, away from the rest of the family. In their book, we learn that Janelle did exactly this before they all moved into the big house in Lehi. Kody was notorious for picking up and moving everyone constantly. At one point, Janelle was tired of it and elected to stay put. She and her kids lived several hours away from Kody for a couple years, in fact. Robyn's parents had a similar situation. Her mother lived a long way from her father's first wife and kids. She was the "honeymoon" wife, who always made everything perfect when their dad came to visit, and this taught Robyn how to treat Kody.

They were affiliated with the Apostolic United Brethren, AUB, back when they lived in Utah. After they move to Las Vegas and then to Flagstaff there weren't any local congregations they could attend which is why they started having home church. So at this point in their story they are still tightly connected to the AUB.

13:09 Cody has said multiple times that whoever screams the loudest gets what they want. And he use an even use the words rims at through. So that’s what he’s doing in this scenario he just made an announcement we’re moving we have 24 hours and we’re moving. The real reason they moved and not the one they said on the show was because Robin‘s family lived in Las Vegas and she was in a separate house from the other three wives and Cody. In Las Vegas even though Cody complained, they did not live near each other and they couldn’t see Cody going from house to house to house. Until they built houses on the same plot of land. And then it was very easy to see and the children noticed without any prompting from mom that Cody was always at Robbins.

7:41 No, Christine is not appreciating Robbins interjection into Cody and Christine‘s discussion. His putting his arm around Christine in front of the other wives is an anomaly and it is made on purpose to shut her down look at her mouth. She’s literally squeezing her mouth together so she doesn’t see anything more. Cody rules the roost until Robin came and he let Rob and say whatever she wanted and there were no reprisals like there were for the first three wives. Jenelle even made a comment at one .0 she shouldn’t of said that speaking of Robin who talked back to Cody. But nothing ever happened like it would have to them. He loves using intimidation tactics to get his own way and I’m sure that’s the way he was taught in this cult. There was a lot of verbal abuse, withholding affection as a punishment for behavior he didn’t like. He called her names, he stopped seeing her children if he was angry with her. All she wanted was to love this man and have him love her back. She never got that. I’m very glad she has it with David because she is now living her very best life and she doesn’t have to watch what she says.

I really do not understand the dislike of Robin in the comments and its stressing me out! But i dont want spoilers im just expressing the confusion cuz...i like her lol!
This idea that she should keep her mouth shut cuz she"s a "new wife" is not healthy to me. If anything having a fresh set of eyes and new perspective and a younger point of view could be helpful for this family. I feel she adds value. If you dont want a new wife coming in and "inserting herself" (which i dont see it that way she IS a wife and part of the fam) then maybe dont have a dynamic such as sister wives?? It's just kind of frustrating for me to see people tearing Robin apart for having a strong voice. What I get out of that mindset is "shut up and know your place" thats really icky to me.

I think you'll understand why people dislike her the more you get through the seasons. Obviously I can't tell you why cos no spoilers. I do appreciate it might seem like people are just being mean, but there are reasons. Having seen the later seasons also can cast things from the earlier seasons in a different light.
But just looking back at what we've seen so far. She was dishonest with the sister wives and started keeping secrets from them with Kody (The dress. It wasn't about the dress) before she even officially entered the family.
I won't say more for fear of spoilers. And I'm not trying to persuade you, just trying to answer a little bit why the dislike without giving too much away.

17:03 The contract is with Cody. And from what I’ve gathered from other sources, they are filming for two weeks then they go on hiatus for two weeks and then they film for two weeks and they film all year round. The stuff that happened before this episode and has already changed the family. Cody is a runner and he goes where the grass is greener. If he’s mad at one wife he ignores her and goes on to another wife. He calls the wife he’s not mad at more loyal than the wife he is mad at because he feels betrayed. So as you know about narcissists, if you don’t agree with them, you are against them. Robin was taught by her mother that sex get you anything you want in life so suck up to the man and do all kinds of bedroom tricks because the other wives won’t want to do it and you’ll be the favorite wife and that’s exactly what happened. And then she goes on about how they got lazy and fat and they have stretch marks. They had more children than Robin did at the time except Mary. And Robin pretended to be Mary’s best friend so that she could find out everything that was wrong in the marriage and she could do damage control on her end so that he wouldn’t wanna be with Mary anymore and they would get divorced so that he could marry Robin and adopt her children. And then when Christine decides to leave a he’s taking all of his children away and no good sister wife would do that. But that’s exactly what Robin did with her ex-husband. On top of that this family paid off $32,000 worth of debt that she brought into the family. And then when Dayton was in his accident, they didn’t have insurance and they’ve all declared bankruptcy at one time or another, they bartered the kids away from David Jessop by threatening him with legal action. So Cody took on another 30,000 in debt that was for Dayton‘s accident, oh wait Cody made that accident happen by not supervising Dayton well enough. He’s never ridden an ATV before and he has Asperger‘s and he needs assistance in a lot of things. And Robin is such a good mother that when Dayton refused to comply with Cody‘s Covid rules she allows Cody to kick him out and they put him in an RV that was not equipped for the winter and was not hooked up to water and sewer. He was 24 years old his other kids had to leave home at 18 because he insisted upon it because they’re grown ass adults they can afford to get their own apartments. I don’t know what jobs they’re working that they can afford these apartments, because we know the families not paying the kids to be on the show.

If the doctor is going to review past episodes so slowly, we the viewers from the 1st episode, he will be met with spoilers. Maybe he can take a week & watch multiple seasons in a couple weeks & see the way this family with 18 kids imploded. With a loss of life this Spring. We want TLC to get rid of Kody & Robyn. Have a show of the 3 wives who are free of nonhusband Kody. The fact is TLC is funding 2 people who are destroyers. 5 kids are being held captive in K&R in their Flagstaff home. We are concerned about their welfare with Kody & Robyn under their control. Those 5 kids need help to escape Kody Cult. So yes spoilers to save 5 kids. 2 minor kids & 3 adult kids over the age of 18. It is a present serious situation.we do not want more kody kids come to harm. Period.

K but who are we to determine what qualifies as “odd”, why is “odd” automatically bad, and why do they need us to sign off on their beliefs

He's taking issue with the high control aspect of this dynamic. Beliefs don't justify forcing someone else to do anything against their will.

He is pointing out the inequality, the dynamic between them and what their "beliefs" are enforcing that, justifying that, which are harmful for the side that have less rights in the circle

I come from a patriarchal and high control religious belief. I can understand if the OP is hearing disapproval. It is totally possible Dr. Kirk has some bias and is going to recenter. Or he can have that bias because the religion that this family is supposedly being transparent on is getting a super sugarcoated representation. Dr. Kirk is working on experience. But unless the show got real and stopped cutting dialogue and having Kody as the final say on editing, it is necessary that he works from experience.
Separately, knowing what I know. And only from my experience in my small amount of time in the grand scheme of things. I can understand that Dr. Kirk might not be completely neutral on a patriarchal and high control religion, where there IS participating (not saying all or most) followers that are bigots, hateful, racist, sexist, controlling & abusive parents or partners, or violent in the name of their belief in God and their interpretation of Scripture. Then again there are people with a non belief system that can be hateful. BUT they are not using GOD as an excuse for being that way. Belief systems are going to be a rough discussion to handle. They are uniquely personal and the usage of "odd" just was read by me as "unique". Dr. Kirk isn't perfect but I also think he is doing the best with his experience and it has been interesting.

Mmm for me it’s hard to hear Dr. Honda say Kody is infantilizing Christine for saying “I know you want your miracle.” I think sometimes Dr. Honda has a bit of a bias against Christian religions. It would be an infantilizing comment if he didn’t believe in God but for those of us who believe in God these are normal conversations. We all pray for miracles and someone saying “hey, I know you want your miracle but we have to make a different plan just in case” that’s not because he thinks she’s childish for wanting a miracle. Christians believe miracles are real.

not all Christians believe in miracles, amd I do think the way and tone he said it was infantilising in any case.

It can be both infantalising with a sprinkle of hope in there. I'm heavily biased about kody so take this comment with a metric fuck ton of salt

@@mipsan Every Christian believes in miracles if they believe Jesus is Christ which makes you a Christian because His mother conceiving Him was a miracle. So no, you cannot be a Christian and not believe that an all powerful God can’t make something happen if it is His will, that’s all a miracle is.

@@Dauerglotzer123 Hahaha yea, as someone who is up to date on this show I totally agree that he sucks, but I still don’t think the comment was rude at all, just my take as a Christian though. 🤷‍♀️ It’s very common for us to pray for a miracle but plan just in case the miracle doesn’t happen.
