Two groups of cars here... the old GM 60-70s that all got 10 mpg and the survivors in the video have all been modded . 500-600 hp trick cars.. none really represent what those cars meant to the families who bought them back then. All those new euro wagons couldn’t haul a sheet of plywood unless you cut it in four pieces.

I called him the next day like we agree on and he fucking sold it I still can't believe it to this day that would have been a fun ass car to race around for a few months what an asshole.

In the 70's our neighbor had the fast Ford Wagon so my dad got the Oldsmobile Wagon with the 455 engine. I believe it was a 75 or 76 Custom Wagon. I was 19 or 20 and that was the fastest car I ever drove. It took awhile, but at about 100 mph that thing seemed to float down the road and on a two lane road you knew you were living on the edge. You sensed you couldn't stop it within the length of a football field. It was like the unstoppable force. It was like a 6000 lb sled going down a toboggan run and it needed quite awhile to slow down. It was scary and I had friends who said they would never ride with me in it again. My dad's favorite thing on the car - He had prostate problems since he was in his late 30's and it had an air-conditioning vent below the steering wheel that blew right between his legs. He really liked that.

My mom's car, which became the first car for myself and my siblings when we learned to drive was a 1966 Pontiac Bonneville Wagon with a 383 stroker motor, disc brakes, air conditioning, real wood trim on the dashboard and I drove that car everywhere, loaded with friends, surfboards, skis, skateboards, banging girls in it, that was the best car ever. Especially when gas was less than a dollar a gallon. It had the seat in the very back that faced out the back window so you could check out whoever is behind you. That's where the friends that smoked sat.

In the fall of 1964, father bought a 1965 Chevy Impala wagon that had been a special order but the original customer moved so dad got the car to tow our sailboat. The car was white with the aqua marine interior. 409 V8 with a 4 barrel, 4 on the floor with the heaviest clutch I've ever driven and positraction. It had the Impala crossed flags with 409 badges on the front fenders. The transmission had a very low 1st gear. He generally shifted 1st, 3d, and 4th. If he was lazy 2d then 4th. When the car had 120,000 a GTO pulled up next to dad, Mr. business man. The kid in the GTO saw the 409 badge and gave dad a smirk. The light turned green and ole dad smoked the kid.

You know, the 1972 Oldsmobile Vista Cruiser 4-4-2 gets all of the attention for being an obscure muscle wagon/estate car/shooting brake from GM, but, in all honesty, the 1969 Chevrolet Kingswood (USA/Canada) honestly is an even MORE criminally underrated muscle wagon/estate car/shooting brake, to say nothing of the Chevrolet Chevelle SS Wagon, Fourth Generation Chevrolet Caprice Wagon, Chevrolet Caprice Corvette Chaser, Third, Fourth, and Fifth Generations Chevrolet Impala SS Wagon, with PLENTY of high powered engine options, and Buick Roadmaster Estate. Furthermore, I think that a Third Generation Dodge Magnum (or Fourth Generation Dodge Magnum if you are in Latin/Central/South America) with a Hellcrate or Hellephant kit would be the end all and be all of all muscle wagons/estate cars/shooting brakes, as they differ very little in body and frame structure from the current Seventh Generation Dodge Charger, Third Generation Dodge Challenger, and Second Generation Chrysler 300, thus also making it relatively easy to use a Hellcrate or Hellephant crate engine kit for the engine on such a vehicle.

And no old American wagon drives like a European wagon. I have a Avocado Green 79 Cutlass Cruiser and a Pearl White 91 Audi 200 20v Avant. I love them both for different reasons. The Audi would do 160 mph from the factory and can go around corners. The Cutlass needed a engine swap to be a fun driver in a straight line and gets most of the attention of the two. Completely different animals but they share the same garage without fighting too much.

I can remember a lot of the old wagons being used for tow vehicles back in the day. Also pulling campers. I can remember an old "65" wagon I used for going fishing and pulling the job boat and trailer. It posi and a 283 4bbl.

I grew up with all the old ones and can say that though there was a whole lot wrong with them, the average family couldnt get along without a big wagon. I have been all over the US in those wagons, vista-cruiser too, all the time sitting in the backseat throwing up. When the automakers stopped making them, people also stopped making road trips. Airplanes took over, thats why the wagon died. Today, people dont want to fly, they are making more road trips now but they are doing it in Prius and SUVs. But old timers dont want a sporty SUV, they want a wagon again. I know my dad would. I would, especially with wind-wings and roll-down rear window, both so useful.

Proves what I used to joke about in the early 70's as a kid. "One day,all these cars will be collectors cars"..even the Vegas and Pinto's. Like I saw the future. Even then,I don't think I really believed Station Wagons, or even 4 doors cars would be really wanted by anybody. That would be too much!

In my view, the Kingswood is the most attractive.
It accelerates it has no weight without the engine sounding strained.
It is just a little buzz and it is away.
Show me a 2019 car that can duplicate that performance.
Well, - I will stick to my 300HP cars: Volvo S60/2005 and V70/2007.
No rust in these cars in a country with a lot of salted roads during winters with snow and frost.
    Regards from Denmark

My Faves are the Ford Wagons from the late 70s early 80s based off of the Fox Platform. You can bolt any Fox Body Mustang upgrades to them like suspension, engine etc and you have a sleeper grocery getter drag car. The Ford Fairmont, Mercury Zephyr, LTD LX wagons are PERFECT.

The Olds wagon that burned rubber in each gear and the 64 Chevy wagon red were the best two, sweet. I would take them over the others. How or where could you find the old 50's and 60's models American cars that came out factory with big V-8 engines?

I miss my old Country Squire. 1977, 10-passenger, one of the last of the land barge station wagons. The original owner got ALL the toys - an air conditioner that could double as a meat freezer, power locks, seats, windows. Cruise control, tow package, 460 engine. They used to tow campers with those things. Gas mileage sucked ass, though.

All nice but miss the family '64 Chevelle Malibu wagon. Bought used in i believe '66 with a 283 that went south. Good friend found my Dad a 327 out of a wrecked Camaro. This thing went everywhere,,,,bay area to oregon to Reno and all. Estimated 200K and still ran but donated. the motor, a PowerPak. always chuckeled like here we go again. This motor was no joke, Fuelie 2:02 intake i think. Detuning killed it. Should have found a spot for it in '84.
