I'm in it for the long haul as an inflation hedge, stashing up i--bonds, thinking of buying more in the giftboxes for my wife and I by the end of Oct to locking that 1.3% fixed rate - which is a real rate above inflation with "safe money" risk free.
You would pay a 3 month penalty, but with interest around 4% and heading towards 2% renewal it’s likely worth it. It’s usually best to cash out early in the month so maybe wait until 10/1. If you like I bonds then you may want the new ones at 1.3% fixed rate but you can’t cash those out for 12 months. I just found a 2 year CD at 5.50% at bank five nine. That’s probably the best use for it!
Hi! Should I sell my I bonds that I bought in 2022?
