    This was awesome; fastest and easiest way to get started. Clear tutorial and playthrough and outlined not just the rules but also the broad principles of what to look out for and what to aim for when playing. Was ready and raring to get started after this, and had a great first two plays. Thanks!

    Excellent video! That was very helpful. Just picked this game up today. My wife is skeptical about co-op games, but I want to play this solo even if she doesn’t like it. I feel like I understand how to play now!

      That's so great to hear. I'm glad you found it helpful. I hope you enjoy the game solo and multi-player with your wife. What helps when my wife has played is if I handle all the rules regarding the invaders. That way she can focus on playing her spirit only. It means more work for you, but can be rewarding. Thanks for watching!

    Thank you for this very helpful video! I picked this up today at Target for a whopping $19.56 (price match of Amazon). I’ve been wanting to try Spirit Island, and this version will let me test the (island) waters with a minimal investment. And if I decide to get the full version, then I’ll have 5 extra spirits! What a deal!

    I want to like this game more but I just suck at it. I get a bit overwhelmed trying to plan ahead and get the timings rights. But you killed it! Great job! I also learned a few mistakes I was doing by watching your playthrough. I might give it another shot!

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  Рік тому +1

      I can understand getting overwhelmed. I hope my video helps you in your next play, and I hope you enjoy it. One thing to think about is Blight is a currency. Sometimes it's better to let blight happen then spend cards and energy to stop it. You can spend your cards and energy doing other things that will prevent more blight from happening a few turns ahead.
      Anyway, thank you for watching!

    This was such a perfect introduction to Spirit Island - I finally managed to get a tiny grasp of the rules - and your thought process was VERY helpful.
    Weird note - is it just a trick of the eye - or are your tokens almost magnetic? It seems like they sort of stick to your board while your are holding it up? Mine fly all over the place - have to be careful not to knock em over when playing.

    Brilliant playthrough! Congratulation on your impressive victory! It will be my go to video for this game that I’m getting this weekend! How do you compare it to Spirit Island? Is it really easier?

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  Рік тому

      Thank you so much! I consider it to be Spirit Island effectively, but yes it is easier. These spirits have an easier time getting their engines going and easier time with targeting (most cards target any land). Also, some of their powers pack the punch of a major power without the added cost/drawbacks. These spirits can be used in the original Spirit Island as well, and they are fun to use.

    Quick question - at around 35:30 when you used the innate power, how were you able to do that? Don't you need 2 orange and 2 purple on the cards you've played, or am I misunderstanding? Thank you!!

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  10 місяців тому

      Hi, nice catch! I can only think I mistook the dark element for the purple one. Unfortunately, my eyesight isn't the greatest, and I just missed that. So, I did use an ability I shouldn't have been able to. Great catch, thank you!

      @@tabletopforone Thanks so much for the reply and for clarifying! No problem, This was still a very informative and entertaining video. I haven't played yet but am hoping to start solo playing Horizons and then make my way into soloing Spirit Island as well. Do you have experience playing Spirit Island solo and how do you think the two compare? Thanks!

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  10 місяців тому

      I have played the original 100+ times now 😁. It's fairly easy to jump from Horizons to the original, as they share the same ruleset. The thing to note is that the spirits in Horizons are particularly powerful in their abilities and easier to use due to their signature cards having easy targeting. But the difficulty level you play in Horizons can be played in the original, and you can use Horizons spirits in the original. The original will add new challenges if you want them.

    1) if you hadn't won, would the new fear cards be played at the next terror level even though you drew it before the terror level card?
    2) if playing 2 player on that map, do you still get to choose which board you'd like for the start, or do you have to consider the entire map for the starting position?

  • @Floorslug
    @Floorslug 2 місяці тому +1

    I have a quick question as a beginner. When you gain Major power card from your growth phase, are you supposed to discard a power card from your hand? Am I reading the rules wrong or is this rule only for multiplayer? Also, you don’t have to use a power during any of the power phases, but they still get discarded at end of round and don’t carry over right?

    I bought this and really enjoy it so far. Do the expansions work for this as well? Mostly interested in adding a couple more spirits.

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  Рік тому

      I'm so glad you enjoy it! Yes, they do work to an extent. The promo spirits (2 each) may require extra tokens not found in Horizons, but you could always proxy those and print out the rules for them. If you bought Branch and Claw, you would need scenario tokens (original base game) to play scenarios. If you like better components for the Dahan and Invaders, then really the original base game is the best bang for your buck if you get it on sale for $50 or used. And the spirits in the original are really fun to play. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    Question: just a bit before the 43rd min, do all innate powers have to be targeting the same land? I think I've been playing this wrong so far 😅

    • @tabletopforone
      @tabletopforone  Рік тому

      Innate powers work like card powers. Target a land within its range and target requirements. So, if a spirit as two innate powers, you can target the same land or two different lands, assuming range and target are valid. If an innate power does multiple things, like the spirit I played here, each effect of that innate power targets the same land, unless otherwise stated in the effects themselves. Does that make sense and answer your question?

    • @prash11leo
      @prash11leo Рік тому

      @@tabletopforone so when I'm playing shadows and want to use its innate, having 4moon, 3fire and 1wind, which let's me perform all 3 stages, I'm allowed to do the 3 actions only on one target land?
      If so, I've been playing this wrong 😅
