Great video. Thanks for sharing. Never been out to those islands. Used to surf Pismo. Loved the nice break and sandy bottom. I understand it's very sharky now. I have fished Guadalupe and Alejos Rocks and fed many large sharks...
Cool! I love Anacapa but you make me think about when I used to dive off of Alviso and I'd be waiting for my friend to come back from fishing and pick me up. I'd lay on the top of the thickest kelp I could find, right in the middle. From what you are saying here, it wouldn't have helped much if The Man in Gray did come.
Steve, watching this again after sharing with someone who helped me here in the Eastern Sierras (Flat tire in the boonies)... anyway, hope you and Lisa are doing well and you guys found a beautiful place to retire to ! Dave (From Ventura)
That’s a great harbor. Your very fortunate to live, work and play there. Man, great story. Can’t wAit to get back there. I used to go fishing out of Oxnard harbor at least once a month when I lived in Simi. Make the run up to San Miguel Island starting at about midnight on a Friday. Miss it bad dude. Beautiful water.

What I don’t get is that you said the sea lion was trying to escape onto your step and you didn’t help him? I have seen many people save seals and penguins and sea otters. I would feel terrible to just sit and watch him get eaten up poor guy. 🥲
@Maniac 5000 I totally get that although I have had several sea otters, a penguin, and a seal survive by getting on the boat out of danger. I feel being there at the right time to help. Never touched any of them. It’s like the baby seal on the little glacier all alone with the orcas surrounding it. If I could I would rescue it. I know that’s life and part of how they all survive. I've also heard that the Channel Islands also are a favorite hang out and feeding area for really large Mako sharks (the 'granders' IE: 1000+ pounds); a 10-13 foot Mako almost looks like a Great White and, truth be told, there are very few things a grander Mako can't handle. Apparently they are also quite fond of sea lions and the deep drop off makes it a great place to hunt.
Yes, I don't go out very often, and I've seen several Makos out there. My dad (the diver in the video) sees them all the time. So much variety of sea life out at the islands : )

It's really sad that the shark makes the sea lion suffer like that for so long, i can only imagine how painful that must be, agonizing. And it must've been so sad that it tried to save itself with this human made object and the human pulled away. So sad. Did you have to do that to not intervene for legal reasons? Or did you want the shark to have his meal? Or did you think the sea lion would suffer too much if it had to die naturally with you?
Omg, the sea lion was trying to escape by climbing onto their boat, and so they drove away! Brutal! I’m traumatized by this video and clicking away now 😅 RIP sea lion

I believe they were observing prey that was already badly injured anyway, were they supposed to haul it on deck and have a helicopter fly it to a veterinarian or something? You can't magically snap your fingers and turn them all into vegetarians. This applies to dogs and cats too ya know; other creatures must die to provide the nutrients they need to be healthy. This is why I quit spearfishing.....was suiting up at Topanga bubbles....and yea an 18fter came to my boat lit up........yea...3 more min?...AND IDA BEEN IN THE WATTER.......IM DONE
Yes that is exactly what is going on here on Cape Cod. We haven't had whites like we do now for many many yrs. The seal population is crazy. Sometimes beaches close for an hr or 2 everytime a shark is seen close by and that is sometimes 2 to 3 times a day. There are predations sometimes in 3 ft maybe less of water and the whites are 16 -19 footers.
There's something sick about sitting around for half an hour watching a panicked, injured animal waiting to be devoured. Then deny it access to your boat, insuring it will be eaten. Then once again sit around for another half hour to see it happen to yet another animal. Yeah, it's nature but taking a dump is nature, too, and no one wants to see that. How you can relay this story with a smile on your face is disturbing. Most people have compassion for an injured, doomed animal. You seem to be lacking in that area. I'm glad I don't know you in real life. You better hope karma isn't real, or you'll find yourself helpless and rejected from someone who could have easily saved you.
Death is the best thing that could’ve happened to that sea lion. Thr suffering that animal would have had to endure if it survived the attack with the injuries it had already sustained would be unbearable. What would you do, take it to a vet?

Karma and shark's I don't think it works that way, they will eat each other in certain circumstances! Mothers eat their own, that's how the animal world works!
Yea I think u might be right and that probably is the reason them 2 sharks were moving pretty quickly in circles. As I was watching I was wondering only due to the speed of them sharks they were moving to fast and it felt different then a white. Whites are fast but its not a norm when they circle prey and whites usually don't spend that much time playing with their food.
I'll have to respectfully disagree. They're white 1000% and you can clearly see with the sharks head coming out of the water towards the end of the video

Yes, indeed.
I believe the ban on fishing for them was implemented in ‘94. Match that with their reproductive rate and you get today’s population.

Landscape mode next time. You learned your lesson for the second shark. 👍
That was footage from the Baja Midnight crew. They are fishermen, not filmmakers.

The sharks shown in the video are most certainly makos- not great white sharks, none the less it’s a awesome video!
Look at the dorsal fins. And the second sharks head comes out of the water. 100% Great Whites!
I'll have to respectfully disagree. They're white 1000% and you can clearly see with the sharks head coming out of the water towards the end of the video
If your karma take is accurate I dont think you should be worried about sharks rather swordfish and sailfish 😁 fish that can "SPEAR YA" back
Nature is so beautiful & cruel in the same breath...I hope if our souls are reincarnated I come back as a shark & not a sea lion😬🦈😉
Haha yeah, 1/10 experience do not recommend 😂
Wish I'd been watching you being circled for 25 minutes, then eventually eaten.Would have definitely enjoyed that show.🏴👍🇬🇧
Forget being an organ donor. Let's all donate our bodies to sharks!
