I operated gantry cranes for about 29yrs. Loved it so much. The only issue is our work scheduling are all dependent on vessel arrivals. Very inconsistent hours.
I all so noticed a worker to your left on board ship as you were lifting he must be not too bright to be doing that. Great video Joris haven't seen that lifting of the hatches before. Superviser came along real fast and moved the tractor trail to heck out of there. I knew why you stopped and just sat there waiting.
+canvids1 Yes, well noticed! I also didn't like that situation, I told him when it was break-time. Haha yes, that was the reason why I stopped..! Thanks for watching and your feedback.
similar to what i do only i take off the railway line and have to turn the spreader 90 degrees and put on a tilter machine on a recycling plant. the hard part is controlling the swing when you turn the spreader 90 degrees as there is a stop at 90. excellent video for people who are interested in employment to learn crane driving well done Joris
Great video and I have few questions. What is the purpose of those colored buttons on both joysticks? What sort of key/switch have you turned near the joysticks? thanks!
Yes there are! The new generation GC are remote controlled! Crane operator is inside sitting on standing on a desk with joysticks, radio communication and multiple screens where he can see the crane spreader and surroundings! Check my other videos to see this operators in action!
No hatch cover alarms on your cranes? We have sirens to warn UTR drivers and dock men that a hatch cover is coming off the ship to the dock. I can get in trouble for not using the alarm.
how does the crane clamp on to the containers? I'm wanting to build some of these out of lego and would like to get them as accurate as possible. any help would be appreciated
The day I get up there in the crane, they gonna say "how you know the techniques? how you know about this and that?" I ma say "I learned watching Joris Cleiren videos." hahaa. 😄
+NICKTHEGAMER_ yes it is! On IMT you can put 7 containers side by side between the 2 rails. On AET you can put 11 containers side by side! (7,5meter extra!)
+nicolò valeri Thanks for watching. The left joystick forward/backward is to move the trolley and left right is to move the entire crane left/right. The right joystick forward/backward is the hoist control and left/right is to lock/unlock the spreader. I have more videos with this camera setup u might enjoy!
Muy nítido el vídeo buenas maniobras espero en Dios poder ser uno más de los grandes de las alturas no todos tienen ese talento y destrezas gracias a Dios a mi me la dió
+NICKTHEGAMER_ Yeah 1.000 is Not impressive on UA-cam I know, but it is Not easy to reach harbour intrested people. But they are finding their way slowly.

I bet you made alot of money.
Yes vessel times are all over the place. Why do they cover those containers up??
Do you not get pain from the neck because of the down looking?
a ship has been traveling for 3-4 weeks. why cant it wait a few more hours for a shift to start?
What’s more impressive than the crane is the 2 camera editing this guys done, awesome work.
I all so noticed a worker to your left on board ship as you were lifting he must be not too bright to be doing that.

+deane9050 Thanks! Do you make videos? I'm interested to see your job!
Very interesting. Where i work, hatch covers are always stacked behind the quay crane
I like shipping containers and i like watching gantry cranes taking the hatch covers off a container ship :D
+Brandon Priest glad you enjoyed it!! I have more videos like this, hope you will enjoy them all!
Great video and I have few questions. What is the purpose of those colored buttons on both joysticks? What sort of key/switch have you turned near the joysticks? thanks!
I'd love a job driving the reach stacker or terminal tractors instead. Can already drive a truck, butvwoukd love to drive a terberg lol
Do operators have to be always looking down? There isn't any crane with camera or some sort of mirror?
Yes there are! The new generation GC are remote controlled! Crane operator is inside sitting on standing on a desk with joysticks, radio communication and multiple screens where he can see the crane spreader and surroundings! Check my other videos to see this operators in action!
So they can kill more jobs

later part of the video the alarm is on.
u should release that 1K video Saturday... im always open saturay... or tommorow anytime after 19:00
NICKTHEGAMER_ I'll do my best, I'm still working on it!
When do you take breaks. What about bathrom breaks?
how does the crane clamp on to the containers? I'm wanting to build some of these out of lego and would like to get them as accurate as possible. any help would be appreciated
Twistlocks
The day I get up there in the crane, they gonna say "how you know the techniques? how you know about this and that?" I ma say "I learned watching Joris Cleiren videos." hahaa. 😄
+RoddyRod0079 haha, awesome!!!
oh... you do lane 5 drop for hatches, or is it because there are things behind the crane???
+NICKTHEGAMER_ It depends on the situation. Sometimes we put them behind the crane yes.
Awesome video! Where is this port?
RoddyRod0079 This is at the Port of Antwerp, Belgium, Europe.
how many working hours do the gantry cranes and 550s have, maybe 1-200 hours
+NICKTHEGAMER_ LHM 3000-4000 hours (delivered march 2015)
I want to try.
im guessing there is alot more space under these cranes than the IMT cranes
+NICKTHEGAMER_ yes it is! On IMT you can put 7 containers side by side between the 2 rails. On AET you can put 11 containers side by side! (7,5meter extra!)
Why they cover those containers up??
There's a game called quay crane commander.
do the 550s have the duallift system?(sycatronic)
+NICKTHEGAMER_ How do you know the system? Yes they installed sycratronic recently. We already did 3 lifts with it, I'm gonna make a video about it ;)
Wat do u call the person working below u? Supervisor?
+Biggie Zul He is the ''Foreman'' he is the Boss of our team around this crane, he is also talking to me trough the radio.
+Joris Cleiren it's whisky here since the acronym is WOS. The foreman is the one who send the whisky to their respective cranes
Where I work we call them mortals.
Foreman
What port do you work?
ever do 30s on a IMT gantry crane, and how often on AET cranes
+NICKTHEGAMER_ IMT has been a year I think, AET has 1-2 ships every week with 30"
+NICKTHEGAMER_ IMT has been a year I think, AET has 1-2 ships every week with 30"
+NICKTHEGAMER_ IMT has been a year I think, AET has 1-2 ships every week with 30"
it seems, slow and steady DOES win the race
Someone know which are the movements you can control with the two joysticks?
+nicolò valeri Thanks for watching. The left joystick forward/backward is to move the trolley and left right is to move the entire crane left/right. The right joystick forward/backward is the hoist control and left/right is to lock/unlock the spreader.
I have more videos with this camera setup u might enjoy!
Many thanks. You confirmed that there isn't the possibility to move left/right only hooks instead the entire crane.
I love this job you can help me
Anything is possible if you want to! I did help a random guy 10.000km away from me to become a crane operator!
I am from Algeria. I love this profession. I am a crane driver and I want to develop my work
You are a crane driver out of the port? That makes it a lot easier to become a port crane operator. I can help you!
Im also want this job :( howni can start to train
do these gantry cranes do alot of 30s
NICKTHEGAMER_ there is only one ship coming to AET with 30". That is the FINNLINES. That one in my first AET movie (Liebherr LHM)
how commonly do u work in 90° rotocab
+NICKTHEGAMER_ It depends where the ship is moored. The gantry crane rails only cover 50% of the quay
I mean how commonly is it used
Hey, I've always wondered what long shormen are making a year.. would be able to tell me?
No
u should do UA-cam streaming sometime
or Facebook stream
+NICKTHEGAMER_ Do all the subscribers gets a message when I start streaming on UA-cam?

Container World yes they do
Muy nítido el vídeo buenas maniobras espero en Dios poder ser uno más de los grandes de las alturas no todos tienen ese talento y destrezas gracias a Dios a mi me la dió

+NICKTHEGAMER_ Yeah 1.000 is Not impressive on UA-cam I know, but it is Not easy to reach harbour intrested people. But they are finding their way slowly.

Hi! Where are you from?
6:15 looks like a collision course
NICKTHEGAMER_ when the other gantry is getting closer?
yeah... driving a bit fast
NICKTHEGAMER_ haha, don't worry. Laser detection stops the cranes automaticly!
hahaha
