Wow, just stumbled upon this repost of my video... This was an old VHS tape I found sitting in a box in my basement since the 80's. I set my vcr to record and actually went down to the airport to photograph the arrival. I used to take photos for the local paper and i was able to meet the pilot and crew. Also had a tour of the plane and cockpit. What an amazing plane! The vcr stopped recording so I missed the news coverage of the plane departing....

OMG, I've just come across this, and now watched in 2023. This is how our Concorde was perceived in Rhode Island back in 1988. Yes, a one-off visit, but I'm overwhelmed how special she was thought of, the news coverage of it all. The only thing to put right is the she was NO seagull!

I can't believe it's been almost 20 years since the last one flew. I remember my first sight of G-BOAG in Oshkosh in '85 when I was 10. Fortunate enough to meet Captain Cook. It was the biggest crowd I remember in my 44 years. EAA was cancelled this year which would've been my 45th. (The only crowds that may have come close were the years when the SR-71 and F-117 showed up.) Flightline security had a hard time keeping everyone behind the line as everyone wanted a photo of the approach. (Which for a ten year old seemed to take forever, especially as they had the tower comms over the PA system and Captain Cook kept teasing "Oshkosh, I can see you, can you see me?) Then finally the landing lights were visible! The big plaza that exists at KOSH now wasn't around back then (and the runway was a lot shorter than it is now) so Concorde was parked in the Warbirds area on RW4. I remember the depressions it left in the asphalt surface when it was moved over to the paved apron by Wittman terminal for the four passenger flights to Canada and back.
I also appreciate the Tu-144. The Russians did their own thing and the retractable canards were a neat trick but it just doesn't have the beauty of Concorde.

In my school days(1969) I saw a picture of Concorde in a magazine, Reader's Digest&thrilled at the the shape of its wings bcz I never saw such (Delta wings?!) wings. So I was very enthusiastic about it&made a "model" out of trash-mostly paper materials, giving more importance to its wings!
Then I put some wheels(under carriage). So, my Concorde "took off"! Yes, it took off to our schools' annual Science Fair where I displayed it. Believe me I got a 1st prize(best craftsman)for my school!
Since then, I became a great lover&admirer of not only Concorde but everything that goes fast!Sure Concorde will inspire generations to come.
    ❤️🌹Happy Retirement Life to Concorde🌹❤️

I was lucky to fly her twice (1 supersonic and 1 subsonic flight). And watching this vid, there's no doubt that Concorde had her US fan club. It was idiotic US politicians that had sour grapes. The FAA tried to ban her. Tree hugging groups kept crying because she was 'too loud'. She actually had less noise complaints than the 747 because of special departure procedures that were developed.
The amount of people who went to see her that day just shows how much the majority of the US public liked her.
It's not unlike her last departure from Kennedy....she practically brought the airport to a standstill. Other aircraft wanted to hold where they were so they could see her take-off. The ATC recordings are heart rendering with all the crews wanting to say farewell to her. And you can hear the emotion on their voices.
There were more that loved her, than hated her. The ones that hated her had no one else to hate because she was one of a kind.

Airport runways at Green are 6,081 ft and 8,700ft.
Concorde Runway requirement (with maximum load): 3,600 m (11,800 ft)
So it could land full of passengers with empty tanks, but it wouldn’t be able to take off full of passengers with full tanks.

All that enthusiasm for this wonderful airliners from the masses of people in the ground, all the while the American aviation industry was colluding with its government to thwart any chance that it had of commercial success. It’s a fitting “karma” that Concordes builder went on to become Airbus which, as of early 2020 is in much better health than Boeing. What goes around , comes around.

Any air crash causes a decline in business for the aviation industry and Concorde with its high operating costs was especially vulnerable. It took a while for AF and BA to make the necessary modifications to their Concordes but then 9/11 happened and that was the final nail in the coffin. Budget travel was where the big growth in aviation was during the 00s, something far removed from the luxurious Concorde.
