I love when women claim men are "intimidated" by their education. In real life, not many men would reject a woman because she is, say, a heart surgeon, in fact, most of us would be impressed rather than "intimidated". A woman with a degree in, say, Gender Studies, on the other hand is likely to have the looks and personality of Jabba the Hutt, and so is simply unattractive rather than intimidating.
Actually men would not be impressed by a woman being CEO or anything because first of all she would not be interested in you if you are not equal or higher than her in income/skills! I've said for years that most people, men or women, can list off at least a dozen expectations for what a man should do/have/be/etc. but have a hard time telling even *one thing* that a woman should do/have/be/etc. The expectations for men have remained the same for centuries, in fact they have expanded in the last hundred years. Meanwhile, the expectations for women have completely evaporated in the last century.
In regards to the woman that complained her man was "too passive," I can explain what's happened here: He led, at first, in the relationship. Then after years and years of her nagging, he basically said "Here, YOU do it then!" When she can no longer complain about his actions, she then complains about him!
Bottomline is this, unless you, as a woman, desire to handle, control and pay for 60% - 90% of the bills that pertains to our household, what good is your finances? I was taught to keep a good amount of money to myself just in case my husband walked out on me for some reason or died. Which I understand but it was never a concern until I started talking about marriage to my family and friends.

Education is a signifier for financial success, same for having a career. Men need careers to get a ‘good woman’. They actually made it a criminal offence in the UK. My mother went back to working once me and my sister were of school age and needed less constant supervision. Before that my father the one was bringing home the money and my mother was the one taking care of us kids. My grandparents had it right. My grandfather went to work making good money as an engineer designing ship engines for Matson. He came home, handed the money to my grandmother, and she budgeted, shopped for the family, and saved. While he was working, she took care of the family. She cooked every meal and cleaned the house. No complaints from her. My mother, a *strong* woman, couldn't be bothered to even learn how to cook more than the most simple "bachelor" meals. Couldn't be bothered to make breakfast. The lady, who had every meal made for her, told her kids to do it themselves.

If you marry a woman and she was a stay-at-home mom, she gained no additional job experience, no education, etc. and then the two of you suddenly decide to divorce, then I can understand financially helping her after the divorce, to a certain extent. However, if she has the ability to survive on her own, then there is absolutely no reason for her to be able to get alimony or any kind of spousal support. If you _can_ feed yourself, then you _should_ feed yourself. The same is expected of men. Not a single ounce of sympathy is given to men when they're required to pay alimony, child support, spousal support, etc. and end up going bankrupt and sent into prison as a result. If we're going to be that merciless to men, then the same needs to be done with women.
Well good news,that is what Alimony is for. It is incredibly rare in the modern world (accounting for less than 3% of divorce settlements) it is reserved for women that was out of the workforce for an extended period of time and cannot make up for the time lost financially

Why anybody should think it is fair for the male ex to live on $100,000 and the female ex to live on $20,800 entirely escapes me. That was a fairly extreme hypothetical, but adding a lot of shades of gray doesn't alter the general principle. It only lowers the size of the spousal support obligation. Bad behavior can and does serve as a factor in determining the amount of support ordered by the court.

If a woman has higher income and education then a man she is with, the likelihood that she will leave him is nearly 100%. 60% of college degrees in the Us are going to women and that rate is climbing higher. That's not really the point she was making though. Marriages end two ways death and divorce. If it ends in divorce her earning potential is a huge factor in how badly you get financially eviscerated. What happens during the marriage to your money has everything to do with you not standing up for yourself, not her earning potential. I was married to a woman that made $25000 a year more than I did. All the money was pooled together, bills were paid, savings was increased, and what was left was split evenly between us.

She voluntarily slept on the couch and moved all of her bathroom stuff to the spare bathroom, and treated me like a roommate that she could barely stand. It was her idea that I get out of the military and go on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and NOT get a job, so I could focus entirely on finishing my degree. The moment I was unemployed, I apparently lost all sex appeal. After a year of trying to get her to go to therapy with me, I basically told her to "fix it or get out." She said it was nothing I had done but she couldn't be intimate with me anymore. And that I was welcome to wait around and see if she changes her mind again. So I ended it. One thing to note, is I still made enough on the GI Bill to live by myself and cover the mortgage, car payment, and live pretty comfortably. So money wasn't the issue.

My wife has a degree in accounting. She used it for about 5 years before she became a stay at home wife/mother by her choice. She has a useful degree. Not why I married her. Her home is her career. I couldn't be happier.
I've seen it first hand, money was the main reason my parents got a divorce when I was 14yo. My dad was a furniture salesman, at that time IKEA was sweeping the whole business, so he was having a really hard time selling; my mom on the other hand had a very stable job as secretary in a big corporation and was making more money than him at that point. Well, my father noticed she was "hiding" money for herself while he was struggling to keep up with everything else; needless to say she played the victim deeming it unfair that she couldn't save for herself eventho' my father never did such thing and always sacrificed all his earnings back into our family. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but I don't think I could ever forgive her for such a selfish duck move that brought years of struggle for me, my brother and my father.

I've said for years that most people, men or women, can list off at least a dozen expectations for what a man should do/have/be/etc. but have a hard time telling even *one thing* that a woman should do/have/be/etc. The expectations for men have remained the same for centuries, in fact they have expanded in the last hundred years. If you marry a woman and she was a stay-at-home mom, she gained no additional job experience, no education, etc. and then the two of you suddenly decide to divorce, then I can understand financially helping her after the divorce, to a certain extent. However, if she has the ability to survive on her own, then there is absolutely no reason for her to be able to get alimony or any kind of spousal support. If you _can_ feed yourself, then you _should_ feed yourself. The same is expected of men. Not a single ounce of sympathy is given to men when they're required to pay alimony, child support, spousal support, etc. and end up going bankrupt and sent into prison as a result. If we're going to be that merciless to men, then the same needs to be done with women.

That was a fairly extreme hypothetical, but adding a lot of shades of gray doesn't alter the general principle. It only lowers the size of the spousal support obligation. Bad behavior can and does serve as a factor in determining the amount of support ordered by the court.

I was married to a woman that made $25000 a year more than I did. All the money was pooled together, bills were paid, savings was increased, and what was left was split evenly between us.

@@billh.1940 We got divorced after she didn't touch me for a year. She voluntarily slept on the couch and moved all of her bathroom stuff to the spare bathroom, and treated me like a roommate that she could barely stand.
It was her idea that I get out of the military and go on the Post 9/11 GI Bill, and NOT get a job, so I could focus entirely on finishing my degree. The moment I was unemployed, I apparently lost all sex appeal. After a year of trying to get her to go to therapy with me, I basically told her to "fix it or get out." She said it was nothing I had done but she couldn't be intimate with me anymore. And that I was welcome to wait around and see if she changes her mind again. So I ended it.
One thing to note, is I still made enough on the GI Bill to live by myself and cover the mortgage, car payment, and live pretty comfortably. So money wasn't the issue.

I've seen it first hand, money was the main reason my parents got a divorce when I was 14yo. My dad was a furniture salesman, at that time IKEA was sweeping the whole business, so he was having a really hard time selling; my mom on the other hand had a very stable job as secretary in a big corporation and was making more money than him at that point. Well, my father noticed she was "hiding" money for herself while he was struggling to keep up with everything else; needless to say she played the victim deeming it unfair that she couldn't save for herself eventho' my father never did such thing and always sacrificed all his earnings back into our family. Don't get me wrong, I love my mother, but I don't think I could ever forgive her for such a selfish duck move that brought years of struggle for me, my brother and my father.
