    I have a 2008 e60 530i. Best car I will ever own. Still as good as new. All aluminium front end, television, 0-100 km/hour in 6.5 seconds. New it cost $124,000 in Australia. Six years old, I paid $35,000 for it. Now, I would be lucky to get $17,000 for it. But it still looks and feels like a million dollars every time you drive it.

    I've always wanted a 5 series had a look at the 2004v8 but my mechanic who races BMW's said the 6 cylinder is the better and more reliable engine.

    • @VehicleVirgins
      @VehicleVirgins  10 років тому

      It might be more reliable, but definitely doesn't sound as good or feel as fast as the v8!

      Vehicle Virgins I drove one with 130k on it with the 6cyl, it was fine and looks the same as all the other 5 series. I wouldn't complain especially for the price. people want the 8cyl of any car because people told them that is what they want. 6cyl is the way to go on this car it works fine. Also I am assuming that the 8cyl is a 545i not a 530 anyways.

    Sprint booster will improve the throttle. These are great cars and if you can find a well maintained one that's had the suspension parts changed at the correct time with proper OEM parts along with the plastic cooling pipes being replaced they will be pretty easy on the wallet for maintenance.

    • @IKhanNot
      @IKhanNot 9 років тому

      ***** You should be fine. I have a $2000 "just in case" fund on the side for my MB and whenever I use it I just top it back up. $1200 per year will do you fine and will even include maintenance. Just keep on top of things. Again if you find a good one make sure the suspension components have been changed and the cooling system inspected. Those are the finicky areas of a BMW. The M52 motors are pretty solid in the older 530i cars and should run nothing short of silky smooth.

  • @lewis72
    @lewis72 10 років тому +6

    The 2004 E60 530i has *exactly* the same engine as the E39 530i.
    The interior quality is dreadful, especially compared to the E39.
    I know, I have one. I've also owned an E39 528i and still own an E39 M5.
    iDrive is bloody awful. It is SO bad. It requires too much attention and too many clciks for simple operations.
    Temp gauge ommision is a bloody joke. It also looses the interior boot release and glovebox torch. The E39 has all of those.
    Auto door lock can be switched off. It's there to stop people getting in, not out.
    Centre console loses out space to put a mobile phone. Gap below CD player is useless as when you accelerate everything in it falls out.

      Not sure about the F10, I really don't know much about it.
      IMO, it seems as though the E60 had many features designed by people who never drive.
      The E60 is my daily driver and I get used to it, then, occasionally, I treat myself to a weekend drive in my E39 M5 and, power aside, the car just makes the E60 seem cheap and nasty.
      The only thing the E60 improves on over the E39 is wind noise.

I don't understand the fuss about this version of the 5 series. 8 to 12 grand for a great sedan if you ask me is nice. How reliable are the AWD VERSION?

      They are certainly no electrical nightmare of the 7 series nor the small 3 series burin going to give you advice try your best to get a 2006 or newer one with the manual it will save you tons of cash in the long run and for regular maintenance replace the tranny fluid every 25k to 50k get rid of the CDV make to always inspect the clutch when changing fluid run full synthetic preferably high mileage as the additives are good for the engine and especially the seals and gaskets run 93 octane run injector cleaner every 3k miles or in between oil changes now for the high dollar stuff get a full metal water pump it will save you tons of money since the oem ones are plastic and go bad every 50k miles usually timing belt change take it to a import repair shop not bmw it will also save loads don't buy the run flat tires they're pointless just get the slime stuff and a air compressor or fix a flat and most importantly if you can do it on your own DO IT! and save money not dealing with a dealer

    Aside from the exterior looks, this car is better than the e39 in every way. Interior is MUCH better looking, and functional. know the e39 is THE Iconic 5 - Series, but, if it weren't for Chris Bangle's LSD-affected styling, this E90 would have been as well-regarded as the e39. And this is coming from a 2003 e39 owner.

    Reliable? I completely disagree, because the BMW 5 series and especially the 2004 version was very unreliable. My uncle bought a 2004 BMW 530i and had to go back to the dealer after three months due to the check engine sign. The dealer said there was nothing to worry about, so they decided to erase the code. Then it happened again after two weeks, and BMW finally admitted there was a faulty chip in this model year. So BMW dealership had to replace the faulty chip which it was covered under warranty.

    Good informative review. Just a shame about the car...exterior sucks in every single way, and the interior is pretty dreadful as well.

      +Paolo Panetta I disagree on the exterior look. I think it actually looks better than the current model in some ways, but that's probably a personal preference. To me it has a more classic BMW look than even the newer models, especially from the rear. The front of the car is very similar to the 2015 model.
