I was born in 1959. The tax rate for the filthy rich was 90% in the 50's. I believe in the 60's, it was 80%, & in the 70's it was 70%. Kids who graduated with me around 1977 could get a blue-collar job making more than a lot of college graduates. You could also, as I did, go to junior colleges & pay only $25 per class, so it only cost $100 a quarter to go to school full-time, which was four classes. Healthcare wasn't too expensive, either; this was before the HMO's came in & ruined our healthcare system, thanks to Reagan.

After more than 50 years of watching the "dog and pony show" on Capitol Hill I can only conclude that it is tantamount to a well-choreographed stage play. At times it devolves to the histrionic levels of Big Time Wrestling but over-all it is "scripted". Some senior players get center stage, some get bit parts, and some wait in the wings for their cues. But the bottom line is that this stage play is only a facsimile, a representation of the real lives that the audience lives outside of the "theater".
