    OMG!!!!! They have sure gone up in price bigtime. We bought our first popup for 3,300.00 dollars and we had a toilet in and out kitchen with the heater and hot water. I don't know about you guys but almost 30,000.00 for a popup is insane but they will sell them and they will go up in price for sure. Good job bringing out the features guys.

      For sure the prices are crazy! Our first popup was a 72 Starcraft, it was humongous, we named it "The Titanic". This was in 1978, it cost us $1200.00 back then. I can't see 30 grand for a popup!

      Uh, that was 1978. I never thought I'd see the day when a new truck was upwards of $75k, or a modest home would cost $300k. I rememeber when Taco Bell had the 39 cent menu. Not any more. @@jaya.0069

    I’ve moved to a full size travel trailer now but I’ve owned two popups, one being the Flagstaff 228BHSE. They were so easy to store in the garage and I didn’t have to worry about storage fees. We’ve camped from 25° to 102° and never felt uncomfortable. Sometimes less is best.

      There are so many advantages to a Popup camper. So glad you shared yours. My (Susan) first camper was a Popup and I loved it but it was a lot of work for me as a single mom. Many people think it's not climate controlled but you definitely make it a 3 season RV. Thank you SaltyDog69!

    We had a pop up tent many years ago, but my hubby decided it was too heavy for our Jeep Liberty, so he gave it to his daughter. I sure loved that pop up, tho. It felt like a safer version of a regular tent. The new pop ups are nice, but so expensive!!

    My wife and I have a Rockwood 2280BHESP, which is Rockwood's version of the Flagstaff 228SE that you reviewed. It is our retirement camper. We've been popup camping since 1988 and have stayed with popups. It's easy to explain why we prefer popups but RVers who don't like them would never understand. Thank you for reviewing popups! Thanks Susan and Mike, great video. I like pop up trailers, reminds me of my younger days and these were a small step up from just a tent. They're great for weekend warriors and short trips but I wouldn't want to do longer stays. I have camped in one with a toilet, but you better be with someone you know really well. Yes, it's a really, really, really, nice tent...on wheels no less. Buy used save thousands. They usually have a outdoor shower too. The cassette toilet......that would probably NEVER be used. Remember it's camping, you spend way more time outside than inside. Thinking a few of you have never spent the night outside on a cot by the fire. Life changing...if you survive.

    Instead of the bench seats, I wish they would make modular storage bins or mini cabinets that can be set on top of a long counter and stored down on the floor for travel. You really only need the two pull out beds and the dinettes for sleeping. I guess those modifications can be made after purchase. As for the stove, we always prefer to cook outside and would rarely use the stove inside the camper. 2 burner stove is plenty. I'd only boil eggs, cook oatmeal, or other low-odor food item inside the camper. Inside potty is a must-have! Shower is a bonus for just a quick clean up or rinse off. For full hot showers, we usually use the bath houses. We are a small family - 3. A pop up would be perfect. I like the Rockwood HW296 kitchen layout but don't need a pull out dinette.

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  5 місяців тому

      These are all great points. We also try to do our cooking outside, leaving inside cooking for less odor and messy foods. Forest River probably has a floor plan similar to the HW296 without the slide out dinette. I (Susan) loved my Popup when my kids were little. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting.

    I owned a pop up and I loved it. The first one you showed with a bathroom is the best, I don’t cook or bake in my camper. But one thing did any of them come with an awning? How did you get rid of the waste from the bathroom?

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  4 місяці тому +1

      I (Susan) also loved my Pop Up camper. These campers do come with an awning. I know manufacturer consider these as optional but all dealerships order RVs with awnings these days. The shower water will go in to the same grey tank as the kitchen sink. The toilet is a cassette toilet. There is an opening on the outside of the camper where you slide out the cassette and dump it at the campground toilet, at your sewer on your campsite or a dump station at the campground. Hope that helped answer your question. Thank you...we appreciate you watching our RV tour video and commenting!

    The part I hate about most of these campers is they worry too much about how many they fit. If you got kids then have them fend for themselves in a tent. I hate the bench seat on the table that converts into another bed. I would only have the bed on one end, give the kids a tent, and put the table and chairs outside under the awning. You could even have the back be lower and fold out a toilet/shower like at 18 minutes. This would give you FAR more room and make it much more comfortable and even allow a bigger refrigerator and a small stove with an oven. This would allow you many amenities that normally you could not fit in a smaller pop-up camper. Put some solar panels and StarLink on top and mount some E-bikes on the back.

    There's a new one out now called " Off The Ground" (OTG). I'm not sure if Flagstaff is the parent company, or someone else.
    They have one model that's just a pop up roof, no slide outs. Have you seen this one? It's exactly what I'm looking g for, but not much info out there yet.

    If it rains really hard, don’t you get wet in these campers?

    • @RVBlogger
      @RVBlogger  4 місяці тому

      No. The canvas sides are waterproof but if you have a tear in the fabric or opening somewhere within the walls you will get a leak. And you should never close your Pop Up camper while it is wet. I (Susan) owned one years ago. If our canvas was wet at the end of the camping trip we would open it the next sunny day to dry it so it didn't get moldy. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting. WAY too expensive for a pop up... Just get a regular RV (size of your choice) with much better features (actual frig/freezer, actual bathroom that's NOT a wet bath and actual cabinets) for a heck of a lot less in price

      I don't think Pop Ups are created to be "cheaper" alternatives to travel trailers. Granted they appear less of a camper but they offer cool features that Pop Up owners love. My (Susan) first camper was a Pop Up. My kids loved sleeping in the tent beds and watching the adults around the campfire. Plus they are so compact they can be stored in a garage. But I understand your point, they aren't for everyone. Thank you for watching our RV tour video and commenting. We appreciate your support!
