    Just to clarify - My intro is a gag, a joke. My channel is not monetised and far from commercial costs me personally to make. I could not reply to the previous comment and it got deleted trying. However I do not consider my intro as commercial infringement of Dreamworks copyright. It's a joke that I thought any person would understand. Chill out buddy! :o)

      it is a parody of dreamworks and therefore protected under the fair use doctrine. Just to straighten that out so people can pay attention to the video

      Update - my channel is now monetized to help me keep it running and Dreamworks folks have been in touch and they love this intro too. So although I've since made another, this one may be making future appearances. :

    I have bought a few of these through TradeTang. The first two came in really decent shape. Mahogany bodies were structurally sound. Necks were straight, frets not perfect, but acceptable. I build and work on guitars as a hobby, so not too much for me to get them set up for really good playability and tone. The tuners were crap so those went. Replaced the nut, the bridge, and tail piece. Dropped in a set of WCR American Steele pups in one and WCR Godwoods in the other, along with upgraded pots and caps. Did an overall setup, added new strings too. As a dealer, I buy at wholesale prices, so after all is said and done, I have guitars that sound as good as my original Standard and Custom Les Pauls for about $500 each. Now the third guitar that came in was a piece of poo. Fortunately, trading through TradeTang, I was able to recoup all but $50 and keep the product. Cheaper than paying $100 to send it back. The guitar came with a nice clone Gibson case so +1 there, and I was able to mock up the guitar and sell it as a wall display to one of the clubs here in Austin for $300. Two out of three not too bad. Buying Chinese can work out OK, but if you don't have knowledge about or experience in setting up, adjusting, or repairing guitars, it may cost you more than you will like.

    I just got my first Chibson LP delivered today from GM. I was surprised it was Perfect no dings or scratches/cracks etc. It was ordered Nov 6th and today is Nov 27th not bad. Like you said these are replica guitars and you have to be prepared to play with them setup wise and mods etc. I think a 50's "Chele" will be my next purchase it's fun. All the Best to you and your family...Merry Christmas!!!!!!!

    Just bought the "Steve Jones" model from China.
    They are getting better and better.
    Flawless finish, absolutely beautiful, wax potted pickups, lovely nut, perfect binding.
    Sounds amazing.
    Can't fault it.
    Gary Moore model next!!

    Good Les pauls are different from other guitar builds because they have a shorter scale length, (nut to bridge string length) makes strings easier to bend because they dont have to be wound as tight to acheive tuning.. They also have a more extreme angle from nut to tuner and saddle to bridge end which forces the string pressure downward into the body of the guitar instead of drawing the string tight between almost level points between the tuner and bridge end which makes them sustain much longer. This can make any player acheive better results. Les pauls are addictive.

    I got to touch Gary's Les Paul in 85. We opened for Robin Trower in Hesperia CA. Gary was playing in LA and met Robin for pints there. Needless to say I was shittin kittens. I got to see and yes hold the beast. I also got to borrow one of Robin's white Marshall tops to add to my rig. He was plenty loud and I needed some grown up help for my JCM 800. I smelled like a bar and felt like it weighed a ton. I have never washed my left hand since... HA...

    Hey sceptic, Are you using the same cable that came with the guitar ? I have one of these chibsons and I am playing on a Marshall MG15CFR amp. The level of noise when I go to the overdrive channel sucks. I am currently think of bringing down a monster cable to solve the issue and at the same times replace the strings and the pickups with dunlop and EMGs respectively. Would that solve my problem ?

    Hi. First of all, congratulations and thank you for your videos :) I'm looking to buy some chinese guitars for my own experiments. Is the nut on this one glued in the wrong place (I've just seen photos in the end of the video, and it seemed to me it is), or it's also because of the break between the neck itself and the fingerboard?
    P.S. Outtakes in the end are awesome :)

Seen many of your tests so i am surprised you are (in this vid) so impressed, yes it is nice but there are so many out there, How is it now ? do you still have it and is it still playable or dd the neck go?

    Well, I have to say that thanks to your vids about Chinese knock offs, I certainly took my time and became much better informed than I was, especially regarding things like microphonic pickups and crummy pots.... I reckoned they might be dodgy...
    Anyways, I ended up ordering a '59 LP Standard and used some of your critiques and suggestions when dealing with the seller.. bottom line was that I received a pretty good guitar, one piece neck, one piece body, it's bloody heavy, whatever it is...) and potted pickups... Action was low and very light, too light for me, so will fix that, but intonation and neck were good and sounds fine, even out of the box with those strings... ugh... Another tip I got was to lemon oil the dickens out of the rosewood neck, and clean and clean again, it really helps the playability..
    Can I ask which of the guitars you ordered is your preferred one? You were quite glowing on a PRS you had ordered..
    Cheers, mate!

    When the bell is removed, does it need an allen key or actual nut wrench? Chinese copies seldom use the Gibson truss rods, and it's usually a sure 'tell', but they are getting closer all the time.

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  10 років тому +1

      Allen Key - All Chibsons do mate. I have it direct from them that they cannot yet get the Nut wrench truss parts. Not economic for them to do it just for one brand of guitar.

    I'll have to agree. I never had much of an interest in PRS until a friend of mine sold me a SE model for 200. It simply never goes out of tune and the stock pickups are surprisingly great. It's become one of my go to guitars and I don't have to worry about it getting nicked up or banged around.It's just a solid gigging guitar. I enjoy your videos even though I really am not much of a fan of the china fakes. I did do some builds out of the china kits and they are coming out quite nice

    Hey man, very interesting stuff.
    Say, I'm actually considering ordering one myself, but I'm hearing some stuff about it that's kinda keeping me away from getting me one of these... so I was wondering if you could answer some questions, you don't mind...
    1. Is the hardware so imperfect that it can't really reach 'perfection'? That was actually a terrible way to word it... What I wanna know is, after some thorough set-ups, can the intonations be perfect, no howling/feedback/static/etc, and whatnot
    2. I've been hearing from a few people that, upon opening the box, the guitar smells of some pungent chemical that was used for the finish, and it does not go away. Is that true to any extent?
    Cheers

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  10 років тому

      Hey bud,
      1. No most of the hardware can be set up but it is poor quality and doubt it will last many years.
      2. None of mine have but I have heard the same about those with cases. It may be that they are using cow gum to stick the lining in on some?

    Yes and yes buddy - It's already growing on me. Looks beautiful but I need to work out if that split is fatal or not. The body shape is actually spot on the top radius overlaid on the real thing is perfect and no longer has that straight section. mighty impressed with this one. Just need to see how the seller responds to the damaged goods report. Take care buddy :o)

      Much better choice than any Chinese copy mate - couldn't agree more. Please remember I am just experimenting and reporting on these. They are fine little projects to work on but that's it :o) Never buy instead of but perhaps as a gigging backup to that collectors you would never gig.

    It would be nice if you checked the neck joint under the neck pickup, and also a good close up photo of the control cavity. This is where they succeed or fail in quality.

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  5 років тому +1

      Hey friend I have done just that in other videos. I wish I could remember which for you but it's such a long time ago. You are totally correct though and as I recall the cavities and neck joint are almost always poor sometimes too the point of failure. I've had many horror stories of necks separating!

      @@Chinaguitarsceptic Its too bad. I've seen some Chinese guitars on UA-cam that were surprisingly very close to real Gibsons, they ARE capable of making stellar guitars. Have you ever tried having one of their factories actually MAKE a guitar to your specifications? You could specify long tenon neck joint, no graphite black paint slathered in the control cavity, no plastic wiring. I have a Chinese archtop from about ten years ago that is completely faultless quality, as good as any of the Epiphone Korean archtops were.

    WOW that's a lot a questions @o) LOL
    So I use Jammer Pro 9 to turn chord progressions into backing tracks. I use internet software to convert those into WAV files with nice sound canvas. This track was then 2 clean guitars for rythmn tracks panned hard left and right then two lead guitars panned 75% L & R. All guitar parts were recorded with Maggie the blue PRless and used TH2 plugins in cubase LE [which came free with my Zoom R16]. All mixed using the zoom as a control surface....

    Hi there. First of I love the videos and the guitars. Im gonna be buying a les paul project guitar and wanted to ask if you ever had any trouble with customs? I was talking to the seller and they said it would be declared gift and value at $60. Really dont know what to make of it could you shed some light on it for me? Im in the uk, Belfast to be more precise. Thank you for your time. Robin

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic
      @Chinaguitarsceptic  10 років тому

      They always put gift or low value on the package but customs ignore that and go on the weight and postage cost from China to work out value and hence VAT. My VAT charges have always worked out higher than 20% VAT but it has not been worth following up. :o)

    The part I'm most looking forward to when receiving my chibson '59 is the brown case... which is pretty sad really if you think about it. let's hope it arrives in one piece and I can make it sound good with the very limited skills I have in guitar modification.

    Hi,
    Watching your video I was surprised to hear you mention your Carlsbro GLX85 amp. You don't hear Carlsbro mentioned much- never in the USA. I had a GLX30 imported to me in the USA back in 1999. I still have it!. Bill Nelson-BeBop Delouxe got me into Carlsbro. I found a real old (early 70s vintage) 100TC tube head laying around in a local repair shop back in 1977 and still have that one too. It's a great amp! I also have a Chibson LP and am waiting on a Chibson ES-355 to be finished; I have a few vids on my Chibson on UA-cam (Geryhatrix, Chibson, Fibson keywords).

    • @Chinaguitarsceptic

      I just did a rough video of a new Chibson ES-355 style guitar and used the old Carlsbro 100CT head and a 2x12 Hiwatt style custom made cabinet. No effects. Just guitar anmd amp. It's not on YT yet. maybe later today.

    Can you make a video response to this? Does it need to have an expensive guitar if your just a regular guitar player or even with an amateur band that only play cover.
