    A few years back I bought a Jimmy Page model off AliExpress. After replacing all the hardware, levelling and dressing the frets, I had a great playing and sounding guitar that didn’t break the bank.
    The quality looks like it’s improved.

      Definitely. Coincidentally ever since the Epiphone factory moved its production to China, that it’s seemed like the Chibson’s have really stepped up in quality. I’m not one for spreading rumors but the quality jump since the company moved to China, the Chibsons are noticeably different. Seems like today they actually use real maple caps with thin veneers overs the top, real mahogany neck and on some standard and most custom models, you actually have a chance you might find one with an actual ebony board. Also recently found out they do indeed use real mother of pearl inlays, just not near as nice as Gibson’s. But still that’s a lot in a guitar for the money.

      I did the exact same thing! Only I did pay an extra $300 for a “ real” flame maple top and another $100 for it to be a 1 piece mahogany body! Pretty much after all the hardware and real PAFs I put into it , yeah! I could’ve just bought a real les Paul lol. But man this guitar is the 2nd best guitar I have ! My PRS CE custom being the best, but it was worth it .

    I work for a furniture store years ago when I was in my early twenties where they manufactured furniture and a lot of it had to look like antique furniture. so we had to smack everything up with a big Ring full of keys and different ways of dinging the surface to make it look like it's old and then painting it to look like a real antique and you couldn't tell the difference, but they were obviously less expensive than the real antiques. It was a very interesting job and I learned a lot they had some really cool stuff to repair broken furniture and you couldn't tell where the thing was ever broken I was good at that stuff😎

    I bought a Telecaster, Stratocaster, Les Paul,, Gibson style hollowbody, & a 6 string bass, all China made, each month I expected to get ripped off, to my amazement they all proved to be very well built, usual same woods, electronics and hardware was amazingly high quality.
    Grabbed them cheaper early this year now the prizes are climbing. So I had a feeling the 90.$ Tele, the $150 Les Paul were going to increase in price, all sellers did, Thanks for your guitar tips brother.

    i bought one of these also. I had to adjust the truss rod as it would not play around the 7 fret.. got it dialed in. I also bought the real deal for 3100 bucks.. I have to say, I like the Chibson better.. there are so many issues with the real deal it's unreal.. I had to sand the neck to a reasonable size. It had bulbous sides and a lump under the wood near the neck/body connection. The nut sucks and sticks, the strings plink out. One knob was broken when it got here.. I almost returned it. I'm still working on it. Personally it's really hard to tell the dif in pickup sound.. my Chibson also has the dime sized Pots.. will put new electronics in it. Can't wait to see how you upgrade yours. This is not my first Chibson.. I have many, one already upgraded and that one sounds really different from my others.. so I was surprised that this Greeny sounded so good comparatively speaking. Have fun.

    It looks and sounds great! I bought two Chibsons (LP and ES-345) and a Chickenbacker 325 within the last two years and with minimal setup time by myself, they sound and look great. And as several commenters have said, why take the chance at a gig of having your "legit" guitars stolen or puked on? As long as you don't sell them as OEM guitars I don't see a problem with it at all. Plus, replacement parts sales for electronics and hardware on these copies drives a lot of $$$ back into the pockets of the companies we "cheated" on.

      A guitar shop I used to hang out at had a guitar someone had bought in person in the orient. It was a GIvson. The guy who bought it was friends with the shop owner and gave it to him. He had to do a lot of work to make it playable.
      It was cool. Imagine something like a Florentine cut Brydland but with no pickups or pots. It was super light, felt like it was made of paper.

  • @bluesman5049
    @bluesman5049 8 місяців тому

    I think they make good copies of Greenies, what I do is to flip the magnet180% in Neck pickup, so that in the middle position it has an out phase - a real greenie tone.
    And one more important detail, I take out the metal bushings on the bridge, and place the screws that hold the bridge directly in the wood, this has a favorable effect on the transmission of resonance, like with old LPs.
    I notice that the wiring is typical Chinese-serial, the capacitors seem to be soldered to the pin of the ton pot and the other end to ground.
    It is better when one end of the capacitor goes from one of the pins of the volume pot (vintage/modern), and the other to one of the pins of the tone pot, certainly one of the other two pins of the tone pot is grounded.
    Anyway, it looks and sounds good.

      After all that replacing you are getting into the higher quality Epiphone bracket but would anyone know, i doubt it, if it looks pretty decent and it plays with the minimum amount of effort to set it up play it. All parts can be replaced as and when it suits or when its affordable, In my opinion these guitars are aimed mostly to the people who would like a Gibson Les Paul but cannot afford the stupidly high prices that they ask. who wants to pay $20,000 for a guitar that probably would only be put into storage some where. I have a 2002 Les Paul that i bought new and a cheap "Vintage make" V99 that i bought for a stupidly low price in a auction both play very similar and i would not replace anything. Both have faults but the £1600 GBP that i paid for the 2002 LP then is not justified now. I know people in the US will be saying that you should buy American made but if they cannot make something more affordable then go elsewhere, buy something that you can afford and play with the possibility that one day you can buy your dream guitar and these seem to fit the bill.

Sounded pretty good as far as tone goes. Can't wait to see part 2 with your upgrades and changes. I thought about getting a China flying V, heard so many bad things. People saying that the Floyd Rose that it comes with and locking nut have to be upgraded. For the cheap price a person can get that look, just do the upgrades then? Imagine gigging with that after you upgrade it. People in the audience that haven't seen this video will think that your playing with a $50,000.00 guitar. 😁 killer video man.
