Marty, nice Review,,for under $ 610.00 I bought a Telecaster, Stratocaster, Les Paul,, Gibson style hollowbody, & a 6 string bass, all China made, each month I expected to get ripped off, to my amazement they all proved to be very well built, usual same woods, electronics and hardware was amazingly high quality. i bought one of these also. I had to adjust the truss rod as it would not play around the 7 fret.. got it dialed in. I also bought the real deal for 3100 bucks.. I have to say, I like the Chibson better.. there are so many issues with the real deal it's unreal.. I had to sand the neck to a reasonable size. It had bulbous sides and a lump under the wood near the neck/body connection. The nut sucks and sticks, the strings plink out. One knob was broken when it got here.. I almost returned it. I'm still working on it. Personally it's really hard to tell the dif in pickup sound.. my Chibson also has the dime sized Pots.. will put new electronics in it. Can't wait to see how you upgrade yours. This is not my first Chibson.. I have many, one already upgraded and that one sounds really different from my others.. so I was surprised that this Greeny sounded so good comparatively speaking. Have fun.
Ok, yeah that sounds really good! With minimal work so far, really liking the tones. Can't wait to see what else you do to it. Might have to get one myself but I know it can be a crap shoot when it comes to knock offs. Thank you for the video. Subscribed!
It looks and sounds great! I bought two Chibsons (LP and ES-345) and a Chickenbacker 325 within the last two years and with minimal setup time by myself, they sound and look great. And as several commenters have said, why take the chance at a gig of having your "legit" guitars stolen or puked on? As long as you don't sell them as OEM guitars I don't see a problem with it at all. Plus, replacement parts sales for electronics and hardware on these copies drives a lot of $$$ back into the pockets of the companies we "cheated" on.
@@davidmarks5400 Indeed it was. A bar patron stumbled up to us during a break and asked if we could play Freebird. Then projectile vomited on my 1970 Les Paul Custom. Luckily, it washed off easily. But that was it for taking an expensive guitar out in public.
@@ishatype2764 Yeah, I've seen and heard just about everything out there-never seen or had one puked on though. Never had one stolen either during breaks or loading-unloading,one of us was always watching like a hawk.

Sounds great in your hands Marty! I've always been in the camp that looks at these things as counterfeit Gibsons and honestly wouldn't have a problem with it if it didn't say Gibson on the headstock. Now if it said...Gibsin... that would be cool and I'd be all for it! Long live Rock n' Roll !!! 😂🤘🎸
A guitar shop I used to hang out at had a guitar someone had bought in person in the orient. It was a GIvson. The guy who bought it was friends with the shop owner and gave it to him. He had to do a lot of work to make it playable. It was cool. Imagine something like a Florentine cut Brydland but with no pickups or pots. It was super light, felt like it was made of paper.
I think they make good copies of Greenies, what I do is to flip the magnet180% in Neck pickup, so that in the middle position it has an out phase - a real greenie tone. And one more important detail, I take out the metal bushings on the bridge, and place the screws that hold the bridge directly in the wood, this has a favorable effect on the transmission of resonance, like with old LPs. I notice that the wiring is typical Chinese-serial, the capacitors seem to be soldered to the pin of the ton pot and the other end to ground. It is better when one end of the capacitor goes from one of the pins of the volume pot (vintage/modern), and the other to one of the pins of the tone pot, certainly one of the other two pins of the tone pot is grounded. Anyway, it looks and sounds good.
Bought a Chinese guitar some years ago. Awesome stuff for under £200. After I changed the strings. One thing I can’t get my head around is relicing. Would you go to a Ferrari dealer and say I will buy your best new motor but I want you to curb it a few times , scuff up the interior trim and sand blast the bonnet ? Yes I’m old !
I've bought a few of these Chibsons and had a couple that were ok and 1 that was horrible. If buying one. You should be willing to replace bridge, wiring, pots ,caps, tuners and pups at a minimum. I would also replace nut and tailpiece.
After all that replacing you are getting into the higher quality Epiphone bracket but would anyone know, i doubt it, if it looks pretty decent and it plays with the minimum amount of effort to set it up play it. All parts can be replaced as and when it suits or when its affordable, In my opinion these guitars are aimed mostly to the people who would like a Gibson Les Paul but cannot afford the stupidly high prices that they ask. who wants to pay $20,000 for a guitar that probably would only be put into storage some where. I have a 2002 Les Paul that i bought new and a cheap "Vintage make" V99 that i bought for a stupidly low price in a auction both play very similar and i would not replace anything. Both have faults but the £1600 GBP that i paid for the 2002 LP then is not justified now. I know people in the US will be saying that you should buy American made but if they cannot make something more affordable then go elsewhere, buy something that you can afford and play with the possibility that one day you can buy your dream guitar and these seem to fit the bill.
I got one of these from China but mines got fret nibs I've changed everything its got Gibson reissue 57 humbuckers, Gibson pot's, vintage capacitors, Schaller turners, Gibson 3 way switch , frets leaved and polished ,relic hardware and like you say the neck and I put an artificial split in headstock like on the real greeny all in all it turned out to be a really nice guitar I still looking for a monty's bethnal green pad humbucker for the right price for the neck Good luck with yours
From a distance, if you said you got a Gibson Greeny, I would totally have believed it! Like you said, even as wall art, it would be great! Neck pickup sounds better than the bridge pickup. Can't wait for part 2. Even though i think putting expensive parts in this makes no sense!
Agree! Do Not expense this out! Didn’t get to the “warm” finger picking mood riffs but hey we’re talking electronics and fretboard strings, right? Adjusted or not, this is a $4k guitar.
Wow I’m pretty impressed! I never thought I would be blown away by a Chibson but yeah I’m really surprised! Your chops were crushing as well! I really wann see what it sounds like with your upgrades!
I'm blown away not gonna lie, I build guitars so I know what goes into a build like that, how are they doing that for under $400 even with cheap parts and CNC machines? If you don't know what you are looking at you would be hard pressed to tell the difference between this guitar and an actual Gibson, crazy!
I am not a guitar builder but I would guess they price is low due to the hardware, cheap electronics, multiple piece mahogany like/relative body, less good quality (possibly soft instead of hard) maple with veneer, cheaper workforce, probably 0 or very minimal marketing expenses etc

Well Gibson has kind of got me backed into corner,as much as quality has improved in past few years the price has gotten just crazy,im a normal working guy and if i spent 3 to 5 grand on a les paul, im certainly not going to gigg with it or beat it up,so i can get copy for next to nothing, upgrade it and have a decent player grade guitar, now i would never try to sell one as a Gibson, most guitar people could tell what it is as soon as they glance at a few things and you can always just order one with no brand name, the moral of the story is Gibson needs to find some soultion other that some guys getting rich off of the Gibson name,i love Gibsons, there history there innovation in guitar building, but 20 for a guitar is absolutely insane for the majority of working people who just dont have that kind of money, rant over.
Looks Great.. I agree about the neck... I bet it will be Awesome with new pots & pickups.. Most of the Chinese Guitars my wife & I get are actually in cardboard not foam.. You could use the foam for a wooden Case if you make it...

I think it sounds better then any Gibson, and quality is better too. I ordered this and prefer it over my R9 any time. Actually I sold my R9 and spent all money on girls and booze cause I don't need expensive useless Gibson anymore. Well done, Chibson!
Yours is a lot better than mine! The build wasn't too bad, and it did have a 1 peace neck. But it looked nothing like Greene! I changed everything alnico 2s, lockingtuners, roller bridge, pots! Including refinishing! But the mid rounded neck shape! its now one of my favorites! Thanks Marty 😊 my had long neck tenning ps now mine looks nothing like greene!😅
They are using mahogany and maple tops and putting gibson on headstock but no where on mine is a serial number. I wanted a cheap copy and I am satisfied with what I got for 300.00. Got me practicing again which was the point, the vintage stuff stays locked up and this one stays by the couch.
Just sold my last 2 Chibsons this past week. No major flaws in any of the ones I bought; in fact I had better luck with them quality wise than Firefly. Just too many impulse buys over the last couple of years so thinning the herd. One of the main disadvantages is you will take a bath when you try to sell them on the used market since they are, well, counterfeits. Great playing!
how do you list them without getting pulled? i’m in the same boat , a gold es 275 .. only upgrade a retro whammy bar on the bigsby.. too many to ever use 😂
I did the same about a month ago. I was surprised on frets and set up. It wasn’t bad. It felt good to play and didn’t sound bad. My top was really flamey but lighter shade with a very light coat of finish. As yours knobs and poker chip were terrible hardware on mine wasn’t reliced and had kluson tulip copies that look like pea soup. I thought the finish sanding could of been better. All in all I’m not disappointed. I’m doing the same as you and hope to have something looks cool plays well and I don’t have to worry about. Can’t wait to see more on yours
Marty you did really good on that one. I’ve been thinking about buying one too. I tried to relic one myself, but you were so right, it is hard to relic a laminate/veneer. I sanded through it. Turned it into a gold top. Looks pretty good. The back and sides look like the the real one. You can use a nail to scratch the head stick break and it will look fantastic. It will feel great when you sand down the neck. Enjoy!! Jessie from Tennessee
Nice suggestions man! I am gonna do some more relic work on the neck and sides while I wait for the pickups to arrive. Then I'll reveal the final product. And demo both sets of pickups. On thing... the bridge kinda sucks. I may try to find an Epiphone or chibson bridge to replace this fake ABR. It's set ok now but now easily adjustable for future use.
Do these Chibson guitars typically have an authentic looking set of logos on the headstock? The photos in the listings never have pics of the headstock so that’s always been a mystery. Thanks.
Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar, Looks and Sounds amazing. I have tried ordering a couple of guitars from China to Australia, but for some reason our Customs has canned the deal. Got money back but still disappointing. I suppose it has something to do with 'Counterfeit' as I have ordered Rickenbacker copies. Would love one of these, but have just ordered from an Australian Company 'Artist Guitars' a LP 'Apricot Burst' which is Identical to the Slash "Apetite Burst" LP so will be my 'Greeny' Guitar too, lol, With Hard Case $400- so a good price for Australian Prices, and Artist Guitars make Quality Guitars with awesome finishes and amazing Playability. They are available now in USA market, apparently and well worth checking out if into quality 'Budget' Guitars. Cheers
I’m in The U.K. and have the Artist LP59, great guitar with amazing tones from their “Bullbucker” pickups which I believe are based on the Seymour Duncan JB Jazz set! Although ok, the bridge and locking tuners could benefit from being upgraded and I plan to when I have the time. So far I have modified the headstock to look more like the Gibson “open book”, put on a more authentic looking trussrod cover, and added strap locks and a pick guard as I personally think Les! Pauls look naked without one
The pickups are supposed to be opposite of each other. Thats what made it a “greeny” the reverse polarity of the pickups is what gave it the signature sound.
The neck pickup for greeny was fixed and magnets put in wrong, making it out of phase. Putting pickups in backwards won't actually change the sound. It's the magnets.
A lot of times, they look much better than they play. With that said, I owned one that was pretty comparable to a nicer Epiphone. Of course, this was after spending $400 to get it into a playable condition. In total, it cost around $800. Not worth the gamble. Everyone is always "impressed" right out of the box because they are practically "eye candy." Give it a week, and you realize they are not players right out of the box.

My two Chibsons I've had now for almost 5 years are still going strong and very solid. All those haters saying the neck will warp this that and the other full of crap they are ! Hey even the strings are reliced
Every one of these relics I have bought with and without solid tops set up adjusted sound absolutely beautiful. I know what real PAF's sound like because i have been peddling guitars since 72 in stores. That has a very PAF sound especially when you are undistorted.. There is no magic in copying a pickup.
If you dont mind , who is the seller ? I got one several years ago to relic and was not playable . the frets spacing was off and had an oversized pickup cavity and seller would not communicate . Thanks

Mine's supposed to be a relic'ed '59 in dark sunburst, I turned it into a little Slash project and turned out great. Electronics and hardware aside, it's pretty well made and it even came with a well cut bone nut!
I got the non reliced version. Same price. It’s also Matt finished. They wrapped the strings around the tail piece. The biggest tell it the headstock angle. Needs a fret levelling as well.
@@MCL502 how would I know? I wasn't a fan of the matt finish and just sanded and polished it. Looks better now. The headstalk is a bit weak as far as the finish goes. Have fun.

Crap shoot. I've spent more in a casino with nothing to show for it.
I can just imagine somebody coming up and puking on your guitar in a club. That would be bad, it happens all the time.
@@davidmarks5400 Indeed it was. A bar patron stumbled up to us during a break and asked if we could play Freebird. Then projectile vomited on my 1970 Les Paul Custom. Luckily, it washed off easily. But that was it for taking an expensive guitar out in public.

I ordered one too yesterday. Will be here next week if everything works. Well, if it's not as good as yours, it'll serve as a very cool wall decoration.
Check it out at 3.04...I think it says Gibsun 🧐😉😁
It does say Gibsun. Very nice
I love seeing that yellow taped box turn up at my door.
I understand. Totally! Relics feel great however. 🤷☮️
I've bought a few of these Chibsons and had a couple that were ok and 1 that was horrible. If buying one. You should be willing to replace bridge, wiring, pots ,caps, tuners and pups at a minimum. I would also replace nut and tailpiece.
Yeh, the bridge is a little sketch... but overall a killer piece. It's really quite impressive. Got lucky with this one. 😎🤟🏻
@@paulyates5092 Who is paying $20,000 for a Les Paul? Virtually no one. But yeah, Gibson Les Paul's are expensive.

How do they make these at such a low sale price?
Either slave labor, or with subsidies from the CCP or both.

Not sure. But definitely not a real flame. A veneer for sure.
Looks Great.. I agree about the neck... I bet it will be Awesome with new pots & pickups.. Most of the Chinese Guitars my wife & I get are actually in cardboard not foam.. You could use the foam for a wooden Case if you make it...

I did the same about a month ago. I was surprised on frets and set up. It wasn’t bad. It felt good to play and didn’t sound bad. Nice suggestions man! I am gonna do some more relic work on the neck and sides while I wait for the pickups to arrive. Then I'll reveal the final product. And demo both sets of pickups. Very Cool, Thankyou. Stunning Guitar, Looks and Sounds amazing. I have tried ordering a couple of guitars from China to Australia, but for some reason our Customs has canned the deal.
Very cool.
It seems Chibsons are either really cool or deformed money pits that can not be made right.

A lot of times, they look much better than they play. With that said, I owned one that was pretty comparable to a nicer Epiphone. Of course, this was after spending $400 to get it into a playable condition. In total, it cost around $800. Not worth the gamble.
