I always learn so much from your channel. Just ordered seeds from a suggested plant and the brown coffee filters for seed saving too. Genius. I am growing many of my perennials from seed and cuttings now so I really like all the knowledge you so freely share.
Really glad you can use some of our sharing 🤩. And we’re excited that you’re growing a lot from seeds and cuttings - we just took sedum, crocosmia, butterfly bush and hydrangea cuttings today - going to have a lot more plants next year 😅
Wow! i didnt know pollination can cause different color leaves too, wow! but it makes sense with hybrid plants that the leaves can be a different color too, thank you for showing, plants are just so amazing. and somewhat like people lol when the mother plant needs room to breathe and it will be happier
Great video as always! Would love a video on all your autumn sowings: which seeds you sow in autumn and when (info on stratification time some of the seeds need) 💚
Your videos are always a joy to watch. And inspiring... though it is 35° today and I came inside at noon and will hibernate making reen tomato chutney, something I've never made before 😊 Thank you for reminding me to seed the hollyhocks seeds someone sent me. We sow them directly in the soil in autumn and the harsh winter cold takes care of the stratification 😉
Your chutney sounds delicious! We tried once with grapes… it sounded good in my head😂 but wasn’t. Now we stick to jam. And thank you for always being so supportive of our little garden-sharing journey ☺️
My green tomato chutney is made and canned and it's absolutely delicious! Phew lol We vacuum-pack and freeze some grapes, in small quantities, to put in festive punch or sparkling wine. This tip came from my 30something daughter. Have you made focaccia with grapes? Also quite yummy. I use the recipe from Bon Appétit for the focaccia, no-knead. Easy and delicious. You're welcome, I'm learning a lot. One is never too old to learn 😊🌸🌿
@@leadoucet1432 Congrats on the chutney completion! 🏆 We've heard about freezing grapes... a friend of mine at work does that and loves it! So now it's 2 people saying it's worth it. I just might have to try 🥰
Thanks for watching! And let us know if you divide any of your plants... always a great (and free) to get even more plants. Especially here as autumn sets in.
@@perennial-garden We definitely will, you inspired us to divide so many more things I hadn't thought of. I'm excited to try it especially since we want to move in a few years, it can help fill in some of our young gardens while also saving money!
@@TrowelandError totally can. Probably 90% of our garden is from cuttings and seeds that we’ve collected from friends, neighbors and even public parks 😅. Takes more time than a finished pot from the nursery… but saves a ton of money.
I am you’re number one fan today the first one to leave a comment on the video. Thanks for sharing your beautiful greenhouse Today. How hard is it to grow in Denmark since you have so much long Winter time with hardly any light
That's a great question! We focus on a lot of perennials that are native to Denmark... so that helps a lot. Our summers are really short, but we make the most of it by starting seeds early and growing as much as we can in the greenhouse (for example).
Thank you both. Your videos are so inspiring. I live in Zone 6 where we can get down to -10 at night in winter. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on how to heat a greenhouse such as yours?
@@lauraaustin6938 We don’t heat ours. But we have seen people put a candle in a clay pot (like a terracotta flower pot) on nights when the temps drop too low. We’ve never tried it - although we’ve wanted to (and might this year). How do you keep yours heated?
What a wonderful and informative video. Thank you for sharing and thank you for taking the time to explain your steps, thoughts background or your tried and true success growing strategies. I just subscribed and can’t wait to watch your other videos.
Thanks so much for watching! We can get quite carried away in the greenhouse, so we're glad there's still plenty of inspiration to be found in the video 🥰. And thanks SO much for subscribing! Huge greetings from Denmark to you!
Totally! We set up at local markets all the time with our plants and things. And starting with cuttings and self-collected seeds, it's really not a big invesetment to get started.
Hi I'm overwhelmed by all the work this takes. The grapes are plentiful. Do you ever leave the bunches on the vine to dry? And would they be edible as raisins (not necessarily dried)😮👏💯🥂
We don't... but we should make one for sure! We're in zone 8a (Denmark)... so our list might not be possible for everywhere, but we should make a video like that.
Wanted to make sure you've seen what all we have growing in the greenhouse these days! ua-cam.com/video/lL1PN8iHj4M/v-deo.html We're blessed with A LOT of little seedlings :)
Thank you, that was so inspirational. Can I just ask why you use coffee filters to store the seeds? Meat trays for seed sowing is a really good idea. Oh, and thanks too for putting the names of the plants on the screen! Decorating the interior of the shed is going to be a lovely project (hope you show us too!) Take care guys - I really love these videos.
Thanks so much for watching! 🥰 And thanks for asking about the coffee filters. We use coffee filters because they keep the seeds dry until we’re ready to sow them. They’re also very affordable - we can buy 100 in a pack for around $1.50 (7 Danish crowns). To us, it’s just the easiest way to keep everything organized (and cheap) 🤓
Did you know that sedum flowers can be dried like hydrangea blooms? I didn't! I'm trying it out now and will see how it goes. If it works well I'll use them for my Christmas garlands 😊 And, yes, they are so easy to grow.
Really?! We must try that, too. Do you need to hang them upside down or anything? Try it all and let us know 🥰🤓. I can picture them in our Christmas table decoration already.
Ok. It's Common Flower Farm and type in "making an arrangement to dry in the vase". All her other videos on dried flowers, the types, her wreaths and garlands will pop up. It's quite the flower rabbit hole 😁 I've made a similar fall arrangement to see how it pans out. I will also cut some to hang up. I hope you enjoy the videos, not everything is to everyone else's taste 😊🌸🌿
For these seedlings, we move them to a bigger pot when they get the 2nd set of leaves. For other plants (like house plants or even potted perennials) it depends on how big the roots get... they can outgrow their pots and need either big ones or move them to the garden.
