@@perennial-garden It is lovely. I am from United States not sure they ship here? Probably for the best I have more plants than I need currently and more coming in spring lol. Still very pretty plant and I always love learning about new plants.

Sometimes... but it never lasts more than a day or two here on the coast. Just a few towns inland it's much heavier. We have mostly heavy frost here in our little coastal town.

I just sowed mine fot the first time so I was wondering how they would look and when they started to sprout :)

I say ''Brændende Kærlighed'' which translates in English to 'Burning Love' :) It's Lychnis chalcedonica -- gorgeous red flowers in the summer. For Phlomis, we say 'løvehale' (lion's tail) in Danish :).

The Phlomis is gorgeous tho! We have it in yellow in our garden and in purple at the cemetery garden where I work.

Yes! But worth it.

Here in Fredericia, Denmark (zone 8a), winter temperatures on the coast generally range between 25°F to 35°F (-4°C to 2°C), though we occasionally experience dips a bit lower, especially during cold snaps. It’s much milder compared to Maine, where I imagine your winters are quite a bit harsher! For your unheated greenhouse, winter sowing could still work, but it’s important to use cold-hardy seeds and perennials that work well in your area. As a general rule, seeds that naturally reseed themselves in your area are perfect for winter sowing. These seeds are adapted to germinate after experiencing cold conditions.

Sure! Ours is called Planting Sack Soil. (I’ll put a link to it below so you can see what it is). Basically it’s the sacks of soil that you find to grow tomatoes and things in. www.silvan.dk/produkt/plantesaek-40-l-7280-9719203 It’s everywhere here and really cheap - we get it from whatever shop has it on sale 😅. Maybe you have something similar in Slovakia? We can find this in gardening shops of course, but also in hardware stores and sometimes even supermarkets when they sell spring flowers.

Yes, Agastache 'Blue Fortune' is an excellent choice for your full-sun perennial bed! It’s a stunning, pollinator-friendly plant that can reach up to 3 feet (90 cm) tall and about 2 feet (60 cm) wide, making it a great option for the back of your border. :)

Same here - fortunately they self seed and you can easily dig up and move the small ones.

It’s always exciting to embrace the start of spring, even if it’s just sowing seeds. 😊 As for your question, there are definitely some plants that are harder to grow here in Denmark compared to the US, mostly due to our climate on the east coast, which is **zone 8a**. While our winters are relatively mild, the shorter growing season, cooler summers, and higher humidity can make certain plants challenging. Heat-loving crops like okra, melons, and some long-season tomatoes often struggle without a greenhouse, and southern perennials like gardenias or crepe myrtles don’t enjoy our cooler, wetter conditions. Tender bulbs like cannas or caladiums also need extra protection here. Drought-tolerant plants, such as agave or yucca, sometimes don’t thrive due to our higher rainfall. Even heat-loving annuals like zinnias or cosmos need a head start indoors to reach their full potential. That said, we can grow so many plants in common, like echinacea, rudbeckia, lavender, peonies, and hardy vegetables like kale and carrots, which love the cooler climate. 😊

@@perennial-garden hi...yes I believe so,but generally it's an ongoing problem when the river rises. Idyllic in the hotter weather,with outdoor garden furniture and wildlife swimming past.In my lifetime nothing has been done to address it. So buyers beware 💞

Even neighbors have given us meat trays over the years 😂 And we use them year after year.

You’re right, for winter sowing we sow a lot at once - and then they sprout when they’re ready. So we don’t really pay attention to the months - we do them all now when we have time. And then annuals in the spring (some in summer if they’re late flowering).

😂 I’ll tell Allen to call me that too. Haha But yes, we sow everything now. Biennials we sowed in autumn or late summer so they have a better chance of flowering this year. But otherwise… Jan is best for us.
