- “Mind-Training” Series 4 : The Importance of the Balance of Mind - by Dudjom Buddhist Association International
This is the fourth in a series of seven episodes on the Dharma practice of “Mind-Training”. In order for one to develop the true and proper criteria and standards for one’s practice of “Mind-Training”, one must have to meet three basic requirements, so what are they?
In this regard, as a Buddhist Dharma practitioner, one will need to develop one’s own wisdom in order to lay a firm foundation for one’s own “Mind-Training” practice, in order to be able to distinguish between what is “right” and what is “wrong”. Neither “Utilitarianism” on the one hand, nor “Absolutism” on the other hand, of one’s worldly life experiences will be helpful in this regard.
When we factor in the Buddhist Holy Dharma to become part of one’s own wisdom, such elements as the Principle of “Causes and Effects”, “Karmic Retributions”, the “Enlightened Mind” with Compassion (“Bodhicitta”), one’s “Awareness”, the inclinations on the “Nature of One’s Mind”, as well as the importance of “Keeping One’s own Precepts and Silas”, and so on will all interplay together in becoming the important criteria and standards to form one’s own judgements when dealing with matters. In elevating one’s own Nature of Mind is the right way, while the descending of one’s own Nature of Mind is the wrong way. Hence, in upgrading one’s own spiritual wisdom is, indeed, the only way to integrate both the “Relative (this-worldly) Truth” and the “Absolute (other-worldly) Truth”.
