All the work you had to put to explain veterancy really shows how appreciative we should be for games like Deserts of Kharak, where each unit has a tab explaining exactly what each echelon of veterancy does, and how far from the next one said unit is... ... And then to see it get focus fired and blown before you could even select it...
I played Hw2 a lot so i didn't even know you could have 13 star spartan tanks. The highest for wars 2 is 6. I'm interested to see your explanation on why the units you said are the only ones that matter with stars. Great video!
Why don’t you yknow, play the first game? I don’t get it, these questions would be answered if you just played the game yourself and made up your mind about it…yourself.
If you download the non-steam version of Halo Wars you can play with the Xbox community. Most of them are toxic assholes fyi. I downloaded the steam version a long time ago and could never find a game.
I play wars for an hour or so nearly every single day with my friend and have done for years. We think about veterancy all the time and exactly how it works. Amazing to see a video like this pop up!
I think the reason on some maps you gain veterancy faster with rebel bases is due the the veterancy of the units on those bases and the amount of units on those bases. Some maps have more units per rebel base than others and they have higher veterancy.
That's definitely a factor for some like Beaselys and Fort Deen. But Frozen Valley and Fort Deen have the same amount of Rebels per base (however Frozen valley does have more base locations). Good point
Was playing a game against AI and had 3 Cobras that were shield (13) along with 2 other Cobras that were 3 star and it was hilarious watching a scarab pop up on my screen and almost as quickly disappear after being nuked by super units
This is very informative and helpful for improving one's gameplay in Halo Wars, I always knew the stars/veterancy did something but wasn't sure how much. So good to know the differences and best units for it and such
I always loved getting a 3 star chieftain and walking around with a flock of engineers. Also, I always went for enemy rebel bases and then came back to do the ones on my side after.
Pretty Good explanation for any new players coming into this. Especially since there's so many units, varierty in buildings and how games are normally played its hard to consider veterancy as a important aspect at times!!!
I knew about the Stars back in the day on the 360 when the game first came out but not about the shield. I wish more people played the game though. I have the 360 copy still and I have the Steam version on PC as well. Definitely an underrated game
For some reason I remember trying to get veterancy on unupgraded units was quicker than after the first upgrade. Especially for cov leaders, Spartans, etc.
@@nickthompson1812 its faster having the unupgraded unit get stars simply because your jumping straight into the action. As opposed to just waiting for the unit to upgrade Upgrades don’t affect the rate of stars like I thought in the past

Awesome video! In my experience, my Covie leader (after I buy the first upgrade, i.e inheritance) gets stars with a lesser amount of rebel units/bases killed, than without the upgrade. Not sure why.
A little tip. Make sure that sound effects like clicking or "ultrakill" is about the same level as your voice and preferably lower cause you are the main attraction

Not gonna lie, I actually forgot Halo Wars has alternative game modes. All my and my buddy do is play standard over and over and over. Maybe I should see if he'd give those a swing one day.
The reason nobody talked about Veterancy is because the game itself told you about what it does on the main menu. But leaves it at "increases HP and damage output". And doesn't tell you that upgrading units counts as a hidden veterancy upgrade nor the faster HP regen.
Bases can get stars? I never knew that... I can see why they can't even if they could. Would've been funny to see 3 star turrets. enjoyed the funny moments, I can't wait to see part 2. Im curious to see why you think the units you chose are the best with full stars
I asked myself this for a long time, turns out (pointed out in the comments) a UA-camr during the 360 Halo Wars days made a guide about Veterancy but it no longer exists
Wait Arby gets full vet while in rage mode now? I thought he got way more unraged. Is this definitive only or both versions of hw1? Awesome video btw gonna watch part 2 now.
Glad you enjoyed the video! I shoulda brought it up, the information was founded by a person named "Abaddon" on steam; accessed the game files and stated "Having a Spartan inside the vehicle adds an extra 1.15x damage and 0.86% damage multiplier on top of pre-existing veterancy." So plugging in the values and doing a little bit of math a 13 star power turret scorpion tank has -23061hp -661.5dps -0.64% damage multiplier on taken damage. (damage resistance) The effects of these numbers are shown in part 2
really good video, is there any info on how covenant leaders gain veterency? such as how many points they need for each star, i did try using the link in the description on the wayback machine but its not working for me
you answered your question in a way. You need 3 Star Spartans. (Spartan Laser aka fully upgraded Spartans) 3 Star Spartans + 3 Star Tanks = 13 Star Spartan Tanks.(3 Star tanks must be power turret) This is ignoring super units like Grizzlies and Hawks (14 Stars)
@@protonjones54 spartans provide an additional set of stars when getting into a unit. for example a spartan with no upgrades gets into a vehicle with no upgrades it gives an automatic 2 stars. He's saying if you had fully upgraded spartans but not a fully upgraded vehicle you will not have 13 stars. Upgrades count as stars like what Anti Wave said in the first chapter

Because there's no units to bank on stars with beforehand the ONLY WAY to earn Veterancy is through simply killing the opponents units over and over again while keeping yours alive which already a challenge giving the unit variety Thus games are significantly faster with no effort getting expansion bases (aside from enemy players taking it from you) While many games in HWDE end without killing rebel bases the fact it's there adds a layer and another factor of something in the way
