Marty Music can you please demo more pedals please for gear Thursday if you still do that? It would be really cool if you did but no pressure. You could maybe even get boss or EHX to sponsor you and send you gear to try out🤔. Thanks man
Let's be real; Marty has probably done more for new guitar players for the past 10 years than any other person in the whole internet. I mean, ask anyone who has started playing guitar since 2010. I guarantee 9 out of 10 will tell you one of the first things they learnt was teached to them by Marty! I started in 2012 and the first thing I ever learned was Nothing Else Matters intro which was surprise surprise because of you Marty! You have amazing gift of making everything you teach extremely easy to understand. Even though many of your videos are aimed at beginners, even still I learn something pretty much anytime I watch your videos. Especially the soloing lessons are still after 7 years useful to me, especially since I have never been much of a "flashy soloist" or into lead playing until recently. Thanks Marty!
Man, I remember when I got my start on guitar with Marty’s guidance too. One time a mechanic who was a friend of a relative decided to help me out with my car’s issues at a very generous price. We stopped by at his house once and I got to talking with his young son (probably around 8-10) once I found out he was trying to learn to play. We all had a great conversation and played some stuff on his classical style guitar. When it was time to go, I pulled him aside and gave him an idea of the kind of paths he can take to really gain an understanding of the instrument. I finally snatched a piece of paper and wrote down “Marty Music,” alongside some basic theory ideas to start looking into and tackling. I made sure he understood the possibilities of what he could learn from Marty. Hope he’s challenging himself and having a ball. Got to love the power of the guitar and music, that interaction solidified some of the fulfillment you get from it all. Peace and love to everyone ✌🏼
Jonathan Galindo wow I love that story, how amazing! I’ve tried to get my friends to play but they’re all like nah man it looks too hard. lol 😂 I’m like well learn piano or something I’m trying to start a band alright. lol 😂 Marty’s been so inspiring for me and I’ve learned every single thing I know from. him! It’s been a bad ass journey. It’s helped me discover something I didn’t know I loved and could be good at. Now I play the ukelele and I’ve got and electric guitar on the way! 🤩
There have been so many little tips I've picked up from these videos... I've been playing on and off for a few years and never really learnt much of the basics so it's great that there is a wide range of videos that cover all sorts of techniques, songs, scales and other parts of playing the guitar. Hugely thankful for the work that Marty has done!
for beginners The "E rooted" shape simply means starting on the low E string at the fifth fret which is an "A" note. So you would count low E open string then, F, F#, G, G# and wind up on the fifth fret of the low E string for the A note (The Root). I know it's obvious to most, but I remember the simple struggles I had when I was a beginner. Thanks Marty.
I'm weak on theory....So as I follow this up the neck I"m in the key of A as I start and I'm staying in the key of A as I move up the neck. Is my thinking right? Thanks Marty, your lessons are the best!
I remember back in the day, first time I grabbed a guitar, 2013, first channel I came across when I first started looking for help, it was yours all along marty. You made it all to the end of south america with your talent, your warmness. Now, 7 years after that first video, I can understand at sight you were soloing over an A minor progression, and can play pretty much everything I want to. Over hundreds of hours of practice, a music teacher, two electric guitars, many styles, a tube screamer (cause why not lol) and a few more pedals, the first thing that popped up in my mind is “how is marty doing?” Thanks so much for your videos, your insight, your approach to the guitar which helped me build the solid foundation of theory/practice set of skills I have now. Greetings from Chile!
Years ago Marty, you did one of your lessons and it was just basic chords, but that day I broke that wall and not only did I learn that song but hundreds more because of your lesson. I still struggle with the scales and neck and yet again, this simple lesson feels like I've broken this wall down. Thank you for helping me and so many other aspiring players out there. You sir, are an amazing teacher.
I can't thank you enough for these lessons. I'm only 5 months into this journey and I'm absolutely hooked and you've had a massive part in that. Cheers Marty!!
Marty, this got me out of a two year rut on being stuck in a box. I've been playing for 9 years now, but I am a very slow learner, and never had access to lessons, or anyone else passionate about guitar. Thank you so much for freeing me from one boxed pentatonics 🙏
Sir I really respect you, you are a true teacher I could have give up on guitar a long ago if you weren't there. Learned a lot from you and surely will keep learning. God bless you Sir
man, I've been trying to find a video that explains this concept so concisely and easily for a while. I've watch a LOT of videos on the pentatonic scales and positions and have most of them memorized, but I don't know why I was having such a hard time understanding how to apply it and move it around for different keys...this made it click for me. THANK YOU!!!
Knowing the fretboard from left to right, and vice versa, is the most fundamental way to learning all theory and techniques that are based of the fretboard. Cheers and great work indeed!
Man, went from bass to guitar and your videos explain concepts so simply and to the point. The example of using a six grade minor during a minor scale to relicate on the fretboard is quite amazing.
Marty doesn't just tell you where to put your fingers on the fretboard. He tells you about the possibilities and why/how things work together. I realize that some people need the structure of the former, but the latter is *real* teaching. Like, if you just wanna memorize how to play a song, go watch 365 (no shade intended). If you wanna learn how to play guitar, Marty's the man. I love you, Marty!
Marty, you litteraly do not even know how much your videos have helped me, like you prolly get this all the time, but like I’ve been playin since I was six but I still listen to your videos! Like they are just so helpful and high quality, thank you!!
Hey Marty, Jaron here! I think I have watched this video at least 8 times. I would greatly appreciate your help learning these songs. I’ll repost this same list every time I watch one of your videos. 1. America - Three Roses (Please include outro-solo) 2. Bob Dylan - House Carpenter 3. The Cars - You Might Think 4. Clutch (Anything!) 5. Crash Test Dummies - Afternoons and Coffeespoons 6. The Donnas - Who Invited You 7. Franz Ferdinand - Katherine Kiss Me 8. Jethro Tull - Mother Goose (How can you not love this song?) 9. Jim Croce - I got a name 10. Lou Reed - This Magic Moment 11. NOFX - Linoleum 12. Paul Simon - Gumboots / Paranoia Blues 13. Rev Horton Heat - Baby, I’m Drunk 14. Sublime - What happened? Looking forward to seeing you teach a few of these songs. Much Appreciated!
YOU! My friend...have taught me everything I know so far about playing. I can't thank you enough for posting all this great content! Thanks for the constant inspiration Marty!!
Marty, I think you’re a Strat player. I know you love those big, heavy Gibson Les Pauls and that custom 335, but you are super smooth on that Fender neck. That’s a compliment. Many of the greats have been Strat men. That’s what you are.
Thank you Marty. This is a lesson I watched and saved four years ago and I just came across it again. Thank you for sharing this pattern with us online. Like you said this was an aha moment for you and it was also for me.
I totally agree with Tommy V. I always wanted to learn how to be a better lead guitarist and thanks to Marty's Lead Guitar bundle, i am so far ahead of the curve! Thanks Marty! You are a great teacher!
Holly shit Marty! I cant believe that I been watching your videos for so long that you have gone from a young kid to a mature older man!! Where did time go!
I've been playing guitar for years (with Marty's help), but never went in the direction to learn soloing or lead or anything. Been a meat and potatoes, rhythm and easy melody guy for so long, but this video like broke it open. I was scared of nothing lol shout out Marty, love you're online classes too dude thanks for everything
Marty . . . . I've said it before, but saying it again . . . watching you improve as you teach the rest of us is satisfaction enough! You're the best example of what you teach. Makes me smile!
Seriously, Marty! I've been a "smiling strummer" for years on my acoustic and finally started playing lead-style electric last year. Your work and lessons are amazing. I can't get enough of your lessons, even from just your library of free stuff, alone! If you're even in the D/FW area, hit me up. I owe you a drink for just the amount of free material you've taught me in the past year. Thank you! You've changed the way I think about playing guitar and it's lessons like this that have contributed to that!
I started played 13 years ago. Marty has helped me so much just in the past 10! I always find myself coming back to any and all of Marty's channela and lessons!
Managed to stay in the box decades ago and feared extending the neck. Afraid of realizing how stupid I actually was. Career ending injury gave me an opportunity to pick up the guitar again at 56yrs old. This 5 minute lesson was like you floating down with wings (or flying up, who am I to judge) with harps playing and beams of light !!!! Finally!!! Been searching for this for months. Thank you !!!!
Wow, you never fail to impress, my friend. Been following you for years and always refer you to people I know showing an interest in guitar. I have written your name down so many times to hand off to people who would like to learn to play. THIS video made something click in my mind! I heard it snap. Thank you, brother, for who you are and for what you do so very well.
Never seen him before, but old boy just gave a 30yr professional veteran a few ideas...run it using those roots with a dropped m3 of the root(authentic note) and M7 chords/double stops/hammer the pent harm min is uber bluesy but very modern at the same time...Marty lit a spark, dude!! Genius indeed...
What an explosive way to teach an exercise. You literally made two parts to a belt buckle and clicked them together in such an easy way to understand. Thanks dood 🤘🏻
I watch many guitar videos by many different YT instructors and it can get quite overwhelming on whom to start really following and try to learn from. I think this video has answered that question, so thanks Marty!
The frying pan shape! It’s definitely a great way to move quickly up and down the fretboard. I’ve also heard that lick called the pentatonic superhighway because of that.
Omg I just had a breakthrough. I didn't quite understand how each pentatonic shape correlated with the CAGED system but when you said the E shape rooted on the E string it made it all come together lol.
I’ve learned so much from Marty’s guitar lessons. He plays alot of my favorite songs. Please keep jamming I look forward to future videos and lessons. Great personality also!
I call this the 1-3 1-3 hack. This blew my mind when i was tought by my teacher some months ago. This also helps connecting the in between pentatonic positions. I couldnt find this anywhere on youtube. Thank you!
Holy crap! I was doing that sliding down to the extensions all along and I was just messing around! Always wondered if it was a scale. Thanks a lot! I love your vids!
This video was so great, I’ve been playing guitar for a while but haven’t been learning how to “make stuff up” like pick out notes and solo so this was an amazing video to point me in the right direction
I really like the way you break things down and explain stuff. I admire how much love you show to your mentor, but I must say you’re a great guitar teacher yourself 🤘🏽
Your lessons motivate me. I had a funny thought while watching this lesson. How fun it would be to be at a bar with you and Jack Black. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and skill.
Also that special you did with Rhett was amazing! I actually ended up buying one of those gorgeous 50s Standard Les Pauls that GIbson gave him one of. Amazing instrument btw. Marty Music can you please demo more pedals please for gear Thursday if you still do that? It would be really cool if you did but no pressure. You could maybe even get boss or EHX to sponsor you and send you gear to try out🤔. Thanks man
Seriously, how long have you had that beautiful sounding banged up strat?
Just wanna say man, love you and your videos 💕
Thats an awesome guitar Marty! What model is it?
@@adrianaraiza10 Marty, would love to know as well. Sounds fantastic.

thanks, as im teaching myself how to play guitar, all these little informations are a great help :)
Trial212 Yes throughout all 5 pentatonic box shapes, which repeat in order across the fret board.
Thank you and Thank you Marty!!!
@Kevin O'Rourke
Thanks! I was wondering about that. Little details like that can drive a beginner crazy and impede his progress.
Marty that guitar is beautiful!!!!!
But that man holding it, that man is the real beauty!

Marty! 10 years after, I'd love to change the world. Either acoustic or electric would be epic for a guide!
“Little things repeat all over the place” should be a bumper sticker, I love it.👍
oki being honest i love what he's wearing, he seems like a cool/chill uncle or grandfather
I wish I've been explained this decades ago. A BIG thank you Marty, for helping and inspiring thousands of souls to express their music
Hey Marty, you have Phil McKnight saying you were a "genius" last week at the Larry Mitchell gig. High praise my friend, HIGH PRAISE..
oh wow! that's so very kind of him. I think he's simply amazing in his deep knowledge of gear and instruments!
Marty’s coarse
are the best , great fun bit boring very progressive and custom. Thanks again Marty
I watch many guitar videos by many different YT instructors and it can get quite overwhelming on whom to start really following and try to learn from. I think this video has answered that question, so thanks Marty!
Mate! My eyes have been opened! Thank you so much!
I just love your vintage surf green strat
The frying pan shape! It’s definitely a great way to move quickly up and down the fretboard. I’ve also heard that lick called the pentatonic superhighway because of that.
Marty blows away guitar tricks ,thanks for all your great videos
Loved that. It's like finding that missing piece of a large puzzle. Cheers Marty.

Thanks, Great tips! Nothing like getting a good backing track and exploring the possibilities with a scale.
This week I have learnt Bar Chords, The Circle of fifths, Scales and how to join them all together!! My minds blown!! Thank you Marty 🙌 what a man 🙏
Thanks Marty you make it look so easy. Thumbs up from the Bahamas.
BEST LESSON EVER!!! VERY EASY TO LEARN!!! THANKS YOU SO MUCH!!!

Marty is a GOD among men when it comes to online guitar teachers. The man ascends everything except being a pure music teacher. You're the man Marty
Marty is the man, been with us for so long. Thank you Marty!
I call this the 1-3 1-3 hack. This blew my mind when i was tought by my teacher some months ago. This also helps connecting the in between pentatonic positions. I couldnt find this anywhere on youtube. Thank you!
Marty, your lessons alone have greatly improved my playing. Thank you brutha!
That was better than your free course! I like how you go back and modify your approach to teaching certain concepts

Thank you so much. Enjoying my lockdown with Marty.
Love that 'road worn' baby blue Stratocaster! Probably sounds better than anything new Fender makes today.....
Hey Marty, thanks for the tutorial on the fastest way to move up and down the fretboard. Appreciated!
Marty thank you so much. You have defiantly opened up the joy of learning to play my guitar again.
Also that special you did with Rhett was amazing! I actually ended up buying one of those gorgeous 50s Standard Les Pauls that GIbson gave him one of. Amazing instrument btw. Was amazing to get both of you on the same clip. Keep it up! More feature content with fellow-youtubers would be fantastic (but it's not me asking for something) haha I've basically already found everything I needed here and so much more ... thank you Marty!!
thanks! Love Rhett!
Your color choice in clothing is on point! Love that blue against brown look!
This was precisely my problem. Thank you for this video Marty!
You know how long I've been watching your vids.... Rock on dude
Marty you have the most skilled sausage fingers. Learned to do this from your courses & it is really freeing.
i would guess Marty had mixed feelings about this hehe
Thank you so much Marty. This is the simplest and most effective way for mastering fretboard. You are a God sent angel 🙏
Awesome lesson as usual Marty! Thank you so much! Glad I watched!
Marty the way you explain this is mindblowing💥 You gave me the answer to my question I've been seraching for a while. Keep it up 👏🏽👏🏽
Same here!!!

Marty the man , does it again , thanks bro, really helpful
Another SOLID teaching video, thank you Marty! P.S just purchased my Schwartzinator and all the courses. Soooo pumped to have the Schartz dude!!!
love it. Have gleaned so much good advice from you over the years. Thank you!
Right on Marty. This is the best solo method you’ve shown and I’ve tried yet. Thank you Chuckie
Brilliant. I practised a lot of this s I watched. If you wanted, you could extend down to the 20th fret then slide down onto the 22nd fret on the high E string and do a bend. Sounds fantastic. 🤩
I wanna hug this guy
Love the tone on that rig
Love that extended scale at fret 12; I'd never thought of that before. I'm off to give it a try right now.
Thanks Marty! You've helped me improve my playing so much.
Would love to see a guitar lesson for shinedown 45! Keep up the great work!
That pentatonic run around 5:15 is SO SO similar to the one used by Noel Gallagher in the Dont Look Back in Anger Solo by Oasis. Keep the awesome content coming
This is perfect! Thanks Marty! I’ve been learning from you since I first picked up the guitar 🎸 ❤🙌🏾
May da Schwartz be wit ya!
