Helpful information. Yes , the manufacturer has all the tech detail, but it's nice to see an actual application from a roofer. Having said that, every manufacturer should produce an install video to help prevent liability, etc. Thanks again.
thank you David...just doing my part in life...sharing is caring. not many people have the budget to pay for a roofer. or at least you know how a roof should be applied. thanks a lot for been a viewer. with all the respect. Eric G.
I had seen a couple of guy put down the same kind of roofing, but they put it down in strips, without overlapping. With a half inch gap between the strips. Then they heated it up to stick it to the top. It still leaks, they never strip off the old 4 layers of material, they just applied and got paid and left.
With all the respect to the roofers from another countries ...I think USA has the best roofing systems installation in the industry...This country is always coming with better roofing system. I have seen many countries ...they still stick to their roofing systems that have been applied for years ...I think this is the only country that has a different roofing codes for every region ...That's why I can't argue with roofers from other states or countries...I don't know their installations codes? I would have to read them in order for me to follow them. Again ...I'm a roofer and I'm capable of stopping and fixing any water leak on any country of the world! greetings ... Eric.
@@Garciasroofing nice thanks Eric I apretiate it! You should make a video explaining different codes for different parts of the world for shingle and torch on roofs. I beleive some codes aren't good enough and you should always do more then what code calls for sometimes. But I don't know much about codes I live in canada and I don't know one code but I beleive I know the best ways. But maybe we can learn something from a vid like that. I have learned alot from you and I'll be learning alot more from you. Iv watched so Many of your vids I apretiate it
Base is a slip sheet to allow the roof movement with the building so it don't buckle as the building settles and or when it goes through it thermal cycle.but yes you must use a base sheet for torch down so you are not torching on bare plywood and for hot so the tar don't bleed through the wood only if it's cdx not spce sheeting the you have to use rosin sheet and base.
Is it okay to waterproof the roof before applying base, with a 15 or 30 lb felt or is that a waste of money? I'm just asking based on size of roofs. You know, what if you have 100 squares of roofing and you wanna tear all the old roofing material off first before applying any of the new materials and it takes days to complete. Wouldn't you want a waterproof material used first, in case it rained and you couldn't complete the project in time. Just asking because I trust your opinion and learn alot from your videos. Thanks.
What we do roll out the base sheet and lightly torch it [ little more if it is cold out ]. This gets rid of all of the wrinkles so no need to drag your feet and stretch it
Another job well done...Perfecto Garcia! Do they use hot tar pumped up from ground level for commercial roofs in California? I don't see it done in Illinois anymore. They say it made a long lasting roof, but that tar under pressure is something to be reckoned with-very dangerous.
+Myron ...Some companies still do the "Hot Mop "system , but eventually it's been replaced with Single Ply, Cold App, roof coatings , etc... many companies don't do torch either because there has been many fires due the improper installations. I don't recommend Torch down if you are not an experience roofers because it's very dangerous they sell a "Self Adhere " membranes that can easily replace the use of torch down and makes your job faster and easier. thank you for watching my videos sir ! Eric.
these comments gave me a new idea...I will record a video and call it : Roofing by the Book...I will show you what the books says and will show you on the roof ...I make it look simple I just follow what the codes say ...I'm not inventing anything I wish I could invent a new roofing system to become rich and stop doing roofs ...but I guess I have to follow what is written on a book of codes. +shingler torcher Nice to know ...you see? everyone learns something ...out here the only cold place we have it's called BIG BEAR Mountain...it snows in the winter only ...the installation codes are different ...you have to install a SA Membrane over the entire roof when the slope is less than 4/12. install ice and water shield at eaves , rakes and valleys all the time. we care more about the 65 MPH winds than the rain here in southern california ...In the High Windy Areas the only materials allowed is ....Standard Weight concrete tile ...about 10 Lbs. per sf.

+shingler torcher you only get ...20-25 years of manufacturer's guarantee whichever materials you use on flat roof ...even Single ply ..they only give you up to 25 years. I don't think there is a difference ...All depends on the installers.
+shingler torcher ...Not round cap nails...some are square cap nails...they are usually called metal cap nails...I used to call them simplex ...but simplex was a brand in 1994 . a lot of roofers still call them Simplex , but the new sales person don't even know what simplex is ...so I tell them Metal Cap nails for base sheet . good job Migo
Show some videos on how you get the 100lb torch down paper on the roof.. carry over the shoulder. Pulleys?? Etc...
It's a slip sheet to allow expansion and contraction of the roof as well as to help prevent fire.

4x5 protected board no need for black torch poly?

Eric why do you have to put tar under and ontop of metal pipe boot on flat roof but not shingle roof?
@@Brandon-no3vc because water ponds on flat roofs and sometimes stays around pipes, on slope roofs the water runs down due to the slope
@@Garciasroofing someone was saying because the metal expands and contracts?
@@Brandon-no3vc no , it’s because it’s a flat roof , all the pipes have to be sealed 100% because it doesn’t have a slope for the water to run down

Do you put blue skin around the perimeter of the roof then cap sheet, then finish?
Hey Garcia deberías grabar cuando estás poniendo el GTA para ver todo el procesó
can I apply this to my fence I have up against a planter to keep moisture away ?
I think so , I did some planters a a long time ago and they never leak again
Than you....You refer to the 'Smooth and the Torch', but the Smooth ply is torched also, is this correct?

In that case, use SBS base sheet and burn the laps to waterproof the roof, SBS can be burnt before applying the granulated membrane
In that case you’d call a real roofer and get it done properly. In sections
Looks clean
Hot mop some base down and torch your on and you have a double waterproofing and would last way long then this

Hi Mr Garcia. I'm a roofer in El Paso, Texas. I have experience doing built up hot moped roofing. What's the procedure like in Cali?
Bro this is bad work
His flashing are all wrong its on all on the seams... it has to be staggering
Cuál es tamaño del agujero ????
do you need to asphalt prime bonderized flashing?
Hey Eric, what did you use to sealed all the pipes arround? White silicone or?
Elastic roof cement
E trabajado como roofero por 22 años con todo respecto hay muchos detalles que no están bien .
Like your videos Eric , question how is it 3 ply system ? I thought it would have 3 layers , but I only saw the base sheet then your cap on top?
He had base sheet, layer of smooth, and then his cap sheet. That's a 3 ply.
It's not
Hey Eric if there are self adhering membranes that do the same job as the torch system and faster, why apply the torch system still?
i saw that coming...because the SA MEMBRANES . don't come in the cool roof version. i have to coat-paint the roof after installing it
Thx for the knowledge
Mapei polyglass have a self adhesive system out now
I’ve tried it it’s ace better for insurance as as a contractor don’t need to worry about hot works
thank Eric!
