    Years ago I read Caine's 1992 autobiography "What's it all about," which stated the major problem wtih rooming with Stamp was that Terence constantly brought women home to spend the night, and the situation became uncomfortable for Caine. Also, the reason that roles dried up for Stamp was that he decided that he would only work with certain directors, it wasn't Caine who told him to be extra picky..

    Terence Stamp as Sergeant Troy in the 1967 Far from the madding crowd. It was a mind blowing experience in the cinema. Wonderful score by Richard Rodney Bennett. I think I saw it three times! I was 18. We were all in love with Troy. I'm 74 and still in love with Troy!

    Terence stamp has an incredible voice. He showed this incredibly in the adjustment bureau. Song for marion showed his more introspective qualities. Add the campness of priscilla, gangster roles and psycologically-challenged characters, then you can see how stamp is masterful

    I loved Stamp in The Collector, a really great film that I never see on tv anymore. He is brilliant as a disturbed stalker who abducts and imprisons the object of his obsession. The novel is fantastic too, this was before stalking was such a common occurrence that laws had to be passed.
    I adore him as Priscilla, but my favorite will always be the beautiful doomed Toby Dammit in Spirits of the Dead. Fellini's re-imagining of the Poe story Never Bet the Devil Your Head is one of the most imaginative and dark pieces of surreal film I've ever seen!

    He was offered the role of James Bond and he got to go on a date with Brigitte Bardot. For a guy born in 1938, he has no complaints. That was about the best that the world offered 1938 vintage newborns.
    Stamp and Caine "drifted apart" because Caine was a winner and Stamp was a (comparative) loser. Caine brings wit and subtlety to his roles; Stamp does about 5 levels of rage. That's it. I guess he's good looking.
    Stamp has had a nice little career and life. I mean, if you compare him to David Carradine, he's classy and impressive.
    But Michael Caine? Stamp needs to stand in line for the autograph with everyone else.

      Incredibly unfair to Stamp, who is a well decorated actor in his own right. Talki,g about range, Cain has been doing the same thing since 2005.

    • @1rjbrjb
      @1rjbrjb Рік тому +1

      @@Altropos Decorated? What little prizes has he won?
      In 2005, Caine was 72. Without conceding your malicious point, he would be allowed to coast.
      I acknowledged that Stamp glowers well and that he had a fine little career by any reasonable standard. He is not in Caine's class. This is why George Carlin and his former comedy partner Jack Burns "drifted apart". Carlin turned into a ferocious social critic and genuine, if deranged wit. Burns was still playing Warren on Andy Griffith. "Yeah huh" was his only routine.
      The men are not comparable talents.

      @1rjbrjb Рік тому +1

      @@Altropos I gave Terence the Approval of Stamp. YOU are the one being "incredibly unfair" by comparing him to the great Michael Caine. How can we expect that of him? Is it even reasonable?
      Wasn't he the angel in Barbarella? In any event, splendid little career. No need to embarrass him.

    • @1rjbrjb
      @1rjbrjb Рік тому

      @@dianelitman5956 Thank you for the frozen food for thought. Looking at the microwave instruction.
      Hey, these are two gifted Brits who have lived remarkable lives. I guess the premise of the story was silly. They are 89. They were roomies when they were 31. Don't you think some "drifting apart" would be expected? I mean, if they hadn't drifted apart, they would be the longest running Odd Couple matinee EVER.
      But the implication of the story and the argument of at less one Comments-opponent hints that Terrance-Stamp-of-Approval was somehow more sensitive for having dropped out, turned down James Bond and rejected Brigitte Bardot.
      Maybe he was more sensitive. Maybe he was more brooding. I liked one of his movies where he flew to LA and killed everyone to avenge his daughter: kind of australeopithicus Liam Neeson.
      But Michael Caine is a genius and Terrance is a talent. I pointed out the difference. Mea Maxima culpa.
      But I will consider your point and try to be nicer. In all ways.

    If it was Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor you were highlighting, you would have cited them as two 'Scottish actors'.

    The problem with Michael Caine for me is that I cannot think of one film he acted in which is really indisputedly top notch. Zulu I consider very overrated. Michael Caine with his carefully nrutured fake macho working class accent makes my skin crawl. I disliked every film I saw him in. I have seen him in about five films and now if I see the name Michael Caine I avoid the film.
