So Michael let Rory take the complete rap for both murders and go to prison for murder. Would Rory have been 'stronger than Michael' as he said, afterall! It certainly questions the characterisation of Rory. It will certainly be puzzling for prison staff when 'Michael' is well mannered; smart; and uses an inhaler when he serves his sentence. Love this episode. Really takes Jeckel & Hyde to a new level.
Good bit of split screen use at 1:03:40 with the one detective at the lab determining that Rory did put the glove on after Michael had it on (indicating that each of the brothers had killed a parent between them and the trial judge telling the jury that it is up to them "To decide where the truth lies." The jury got it wrong, only convicting one of them. These types of outcomes always add that ironic touch to the series title, "Trial and Retribution." And if it is the case that Rory took Michael's place in prison (as some comments below have suggested), then doubly so. Good episode and thanks for posting. Pat in Chicago
These have kept me entertained for a good while. Just fantastic storylines and great British actors. Fantastic ... Best series on UA-cam along with Spooks and Line of Duty. Great stuff ❤😊
I think that during the trial it was necessary to mark the twins so that the others could distinguish them, and so exclude the possibility that instead Rory, Michael goes out free
Hello, Very good, very dark. Obviously it had to be the twins from the start, however the split mea culpa mirrored the twins personalities... and as for which one walked free........ Cordialement,
but not realistic... the difference between the two was clear and the staff will recognize that Rory is mistakenly in prison... his asthma needs would make that clear among other things
In reality this type crime has happened multiple times. The U.S. had a case several years ago in which teenage sisters (not twins) were convicted of brutally killing their mother.
"We need evidence, not supposition". Words to live by these days. And even if you're totally stupid, why in the world would you keep all of the murder weapons in the house? So many other ways to get rid of them. Michael seems to be too smart to make such mistakes - plus the ring? Those kids should have watched a lot more crime TV shows.
Ahhh filthy lucre. Btw: so much better than Law & Order stateside, except for that first season with the real Jack. That filthy lucre drove 20 more redundant seasons. And they’re trying to bring back the big guy. Fail! Meanwhile back across the pond at the Mirror Image ranch, oops - estate - some just don’t know the meaning of enough. Twins ARE fascinating. Again, Kudos LaPlante!
In this Episode,it is a little bit or almost similar to the case the the rich american brothers ,the Menendez brothers, although it was a true murder crime and this one is just Fiction.
I wish Lynda LaPlante would at least get some medical advise when using medical terms or situations. Rory's use of the inhaler sooooo frequent and the non holding of breath does not work with true asthmatics. One would need a nebulizer treatment if the inhaler was not opening the airway 😔
SPOILER ALERT ! ! ! Yes, that was Michael, notice the parts in the twins hair ~ they are not identical ~ they are at different angles, although on the right . Terrible story, because fingerprints will tell the truth, and at least here in the USA, the convicted criminals are fingerprinted when they get to the prison where they will serve their sentences.
"The Shadow knows, Ha, Ha, Ha!" Old reply to the asked question...In the 1940s of American radio there was a crime series entitled The Shadow and each installment began with a man's voice eerily uttering: "Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of men! The Shadow knows, Ha, Ha, Ha!"
Couldn’t they make them wear different clothes, to tell them apart, especially after one of them was denied bail. They both should be behind the bars, it’ll be interesting since “Michael” would need inhaler right away.
I watched this thing for 2 hours and haven't a clue what really happened. Did they both leave the disco in each other's clothes ? What is the point of that ? And who, in the end, killed who ? Was there a conspiracy on the part of both brothers to kill both parents ? Could someone explain to me what this film is all about ?
I'm usually an admirer of Lynda LaPlante's stories, but I have to say that the Walker, Connor, and earlier Pat North characters are among the most unlikeable characters in British crime drama. As the seasons roll on, they do not improve either as human beings or police.
While I haven't enjoyed every episode, the series is growing on me for a few reasons. One of them IS the fact that we are not given 'cuddly' characters to fall in love with and allow our feelings to defend. The 3 you mention are not particularly good-looking, don't always shine with their personal habits, bias or opinions, they are jealous of each other and compete, they do make stupid mistakes, and they will let their personal feelings and loyalties blind them to the truth. I think it's quite unusual for a writer to not play along with the usual Hollywood standards, whereby everyone looks like a model, or is charming and funny, and gets every case wrapped up perfectly in half an hour. It's what we've been used to for far too long, and it is about time we broke that worn-out old mould. I also like the set-up of each story: the crime, the investigation, interrogation, and the trial afterwards. Even when, sometimes, it proves that a critical mistake has been made and the wrong person is jailed, this happens in real life cases - just as we see on 'Forensic Files' - but never in tailor-made crime dramas for TV. With British crime drama you get British grit - and there's spades of it in this particular series.
@@debbiehenri7170 Well said! That’s it exactly. The sign of good acting is how much we can dislike these characters, and see the actors in other roles where they are thoroughly likeable characters.
Enjoying this series immensely! Thanks for uploading!

Indeed. Also they have unique fingerprints & dental records.

Yup!!
Yes, I believe they knew how to impersonate each other.
What about fingerprints? They don't match. It wouldn't be long before the swap would've been detected.
Thank you for spoiling it!!

Anyone else keep a handy pair of rubber gloves and hammer in their bedroom?
I know, I thought that as well!!
I agree. Especially the bedroom of the prim & proper mother.

Great show ! Thank you for sharing
They'll be able to tell the difference in prison as soon as rory has an episode!!!! The police will then know the e been fooled!!!! But too late!
Michael walked away free.

A good story . I thought about other twins murdering their parents right away.and so it goes. 👍👍👍💚💙🤗

I think Law And Order is equally good to this series...no one can beat Jack !
Law&order is way better as it’s based on real stories, unlike these series are all fictions that’s why many holes can be found
I love Walker's colorful ties!!!

Brilliant ❤

They showed a character with a book of the Menendez brother's case in a scene of this episode. Also one of the characters mentioned that case.
It is very similar to Menendez brothers case, including attorney character and allegations of sexual abuse.
I hate these lawyers, who defend the criminals (just to win and get much money)

That was Michael who walked free.
Was definitely some wheezing as the one went down the steps and half a smirk on the other exiting the courthouse. hmmmm...
Yes I think so too. That’s why we were allowed to see that tiny smile.

Yeah, neither can I. But, somehow, I have watched ten episodes. I keep telling myself I don't like it while I watch.
@@michaelwilton4545I wonder what’s causing the 😢dissatisfaction with this well made series. Human nature isn’t always pleasant to watch.😊
God, roisin gets worse, not better
Rory should have been taught how to use a nebuliser properly for this part
wasn't the ring listed as one of the items stolen during the murder...if so the cop was supposed to confiscate it..👀🤔🧐
Does anyone happen to know where the Timmins twins are now? Seems like they sort of went off the radar after 2007...
Great series, but watching someone smoking themselves to death, and others breathing in passive smoking, turns my stomach.
Omg they swapped p.aces in the end Michael got out

Rory went to prison Michael was free
BOTH GUILTY BUT JUSTIFIABLE HONICIDE
he got rid of an overbearing father & brother in 1 fell swoop.
Was it Rory smiling outside or Michael ?? I am NOT SURE !!can any one tell ?
It appears they switched. Rory is gasping for air as the jail door closes & Michael appears to walk free!

This is my least favourite episode so far, I hated the ending and they kept eluding to the brothers changing places w. zero acknowledgement.
